Damn, I´m sorry for your loss. Maybe remember the song with the good times you had with your wife. And also: No one is really dead if you still think about them. Stay healthy and if you need help, I´m sure your friends will be there for you.

I'm so sorry for your loss Tom, I'm no stranger to saying goodbye to the people I love so I can relate (at least in some way).
This song is very sad for me as well, I love it but I hate it. This is a good example of the power of music and the power of visual representation. Although I didn't play this song at my wife's funeral, my other half decided that I wasn't going to be in her future and it absolutely decimated me. Even after all of these years I've never really recovered from that and hearing this song brings me to tears every single time.

He does die at the end. He is hurt badly in the fall and likely to die from his injuries. You see him look longingly at the peak of the mountain so his friends work together to get him to the top before he dies, of which he then dies at the top. And at the end you see the monument of sorts that they left behind of their achievement,with the markers on it that Oli was tapping away making with their names engraved onto pan lids. Then light flickers out to end the story
The song ist about the relationship between the band members of Rammstein and also can be seen as expressing mourning over the loss of a loved person. Rammstein wanted to break up one or the other time and that is why they had even therapy sessions. But they always decided to stay together

Till is actually singing about "air".
One of them was actually kicked out of the band at one time. He had therapy on his own and the drummer got him back into the band. Another one almost got kicked out of the band and was chased around the building by Till with a bass guitar. That's when they all decided to go into group therapy together.
Not the self help type where one isa facilitator and every participant is also a counsellor. It's also with families and warring neighbours with one or two people doing the counselling. I saw the family therapy storyline in Brookside over the brother-sister incest going on and it ended up with the father turning against them but the mother turning to the side of the children. I think that type of group therapy can make or break a group. Some people can't handle insights into their nature. I told a friend that he likes the life of having to run around after people as he doesn't like being by himself and won't find out about local events and classes to attend. He says it's something he has to do. Now he won't speak to me.

In the making of video, there's a great bit where Till and Flake have a bit of banter going on. Flake's complaining about Till leaning on him in the last part of the video and coming up with more complaints about Till's answers. Till end up telling him "You're making me feel really dejected with all of your stupid remarks. Now you're really going to sweat." Wonderfully emotional song and video and a lovely reaction from you guys. Educated marine has done a tonne of work on Rammstein videos. Good guy for those of us don't speak German.

@Leon Chameleon in the video Flake is supposed to help carry Till up the mountain. But Flake being the lightest member trying to carry Till was really hard on him. So Till is essentially telling him that he's now really not gonna help and be dead weight as they trudge up the mountain.
When it comes to Rammstein love songs, one simply has to mention "Nebel". It is the story of two lovers saying goodbye at the end of her life. Absolutely beautiful and haunting. I'm sure you'll love it.

One of my wife's favorite Rammstein songs. When we had a not so good time (which often happened with us...), she always played this song. And I always knew what she wanted to tell me with it, because we always "communicated" a lot through music.
Thank you so much for reacting to this. I used this song for the funeral of my hubby 2,5 years ago. We both saw them live twice. Kills me to see and hear it but it‘s such a beautiful song.

Great wordplay too. It's worth learning at least a bit of German when listening to Rammstein. They really show off their language and that German is really a wonderful language for poetry and song.
It is true, but even as a German many things stay unclear (intentionally) to all of us and many double meanings, or antiquated expressions are hard to translate to make them understandable in English.
Quick example from my head: "Du. Du has(s)t. Du has(s)t mich. Du hast mich gefragt." You can have it as "You. You have. You have me. You have asked me", or "You. You hate. You hate me. You have asked me."
And there are several of those word plays that are part of the mystery, that makes Rammstein.
My beloved friend died 7 years ago... she wasn´t into metal like me... but this was her favorite song... she herselv decided to go... she had her reasons and I definitely understood...
This is definitely the darkest comment I've seen in a while... To let go of someone out of the world, for whatever reasons. To let someone die... To let someone die... Not easy.

it's Till ... some think it's a song about lost love, some think it's about drugs, some think it's about suicide ... and since it's Till, it can be all together and a lot more. My mother tongue is German and even I can't always "translate" his poetry. He is a VERY special dark poet (translated by Google)

Obviously a love song with clear traditional ballad workings: The singer lost his love, is torn between total dependence and the emptiness of desolation. In this video, several meanings can be pulled from the experience of the song. Alternatively to the supposed message in the song along, the video leads us on a twist. Till's character is given special regard by his fellow climbers, perhaps because of a terminal illness or other loss of capability? He pulls his weight, but soon there's a circumstance that truly sets him apart. His injuries are assessed as the group prepares for the next day's ascent. The setting is on the face of the Großglockner, the highest peaks of the eastern Alps in Austria (12,400 ft above sea level). An injury to the legs, feet, respiratory system even halfway to the top is a mortal peril. Yet he, and they.... choose to go on. His fate is sealed, and out of a sense of honor and compulsion for a dying man's wish, they all manage to summit Großglockner. Was the song about a girl? Or was it about a goal...? The video displays a deeper form of storytelling not often seen in media.

So my friend just got diagnosed with leukaemia & now I'm literally sobbing into my breakfast. Survival rate for it isn't great. I can't imagine life without her. We've been to gigs in people's backyard to huge arena shows. Ohne dich indeed
I'm so sorry to hear that and my thoughts are with you and your friend. Such a horrific thing, cancer. I just hope that there is something they can do to help her. Cancer treatment has come so far in the past couple of decades, although I know the prognosis is bad... you just cannot give up hope yet.
I know this is probably not the best recommendation for you at this time, but check out Lindemann's "Home Sweet Home". This song is about cancer, for which Till's father succumbed. It is sad, but Till does a wonderful job (as always). But, please, only watch it if you think you can handle it. I'd hate for you to feel worse.

@@DrDave541 oh thank you. Yes she was sent to hospital especially set up for cancer treatments immediately when they got the results. She didn't even get to say goodbye to her partner or parents. She's doing this on her own until she can be an outpatient. Then she will be at home until she needs another round of chemo.
She's got her port in now - that's really metal!
We are just taking things day by day over video chat. To think 2 weeks ago she asked me to be her bridesmaid & now it's like I'm trying to be a pillar of strength for her. I will check out the video when I'm at home not in public

He never made it to the top. The part on top of the mountain is his subconscious either as he's dying or in death. Hence the final scene which is the location of the tent. They left him behind.

You say no tears were shed, but they were hanging on the edge? Lol. Who said a heavy band can't get poetic? On every front Rammstein can deliver. Not only do they make big music, they put on a big show, and you can see they do great videos too. They've mastered every level of their craft. And they all look good on camera too. Maybe their sense of stage presence carries over to film. Maybe it's their sharp German features. I don't know, but I feel like I could watch a whole movie with them in it. With them providing the soundtrack of course. Lol. Also, sidenote on their video. Most of the goggles the guys are wearing are from their very first video they did (DU RIECHST SO GUT) and on some stage shows from earlier in their career.
This not a Love Song. Its about a broken relationship where you are together just because you are together. Much like U2's With or Without you. So i as already pointed out, it was a Song reacting to the Point where the Band was together because they where a band, but started to have problems and conflicts with each other. A point where a lot of Bands had been.
