Rammstein's take on a toxic relationship. Snow White uses the dwarves for her own ends. They mine gold for her, take punishment from her if she's not satisfied with what they provide (a bit too eagerly in Flake's case, but as Till has commented, he's an amateur masochist!) and she basks in their adoration of her. She means everything to them, she's the Sun to them and they would do anything for her. Even after she overdoses, they lovingly prepare her body, morn her and are set to guard her forever. Unfortunately for them, she revives and the whole shebang starts all over again. Absolutely brilliant video, so much imagination in it and a great twist on the Disney story while sticking more closely to the Brothers Grimm tale. . Another great reaction, as always.
Well, because it has nothing to do with Disney, although she is dressed like that Snow White. I think to recognise her more easy. But we in the German speaking area (I am from Austria) know more the ferry tales collection by the brother Grim. Those are much darker and as she dies, because of the poisoned apple and the prince would like to take her, one of the dwarfs says:"but she is our sunshine". Of Course, Rammstein made it even darker. Just wanted to mention that the hard cut at the end intents to show that the dwarfs are back to their backbraking work to get diamonds/gold to please their queen. It's not a happy end.

Observing many people this just feels like true life story, a lot of strong men are abused like this by women they love, they give their lives to bring material wealth to them, and aren't valued by them yet are drawn to the women...
I noticed that Paul was at the end with a few tears running down his face. Actors (and rock stars acting in promo videos) can't just will tears on their own so often have to think of past sad situations to do that. He must be talented to do that. I just wanted to hug him.
What is good to know for the scene at 3:29 is that a deadly dose of a drug in Germany is called "Goldener Schuss" ("golden shot"). That can too be a reason they took gold as drug.
She abused them, but they mourn for her. Their love brought her back - and they are back at slave work in the mines. Tragic stuff!

I noticed there is a heavy mistake in the subs, at 1:46 they say "And the world quietly counts to 10". But Till is singing the opposite (!) : "And the wordl loudly counts to 10" !!!!

Anyone in their early to mid 30s who listened to metal will recognise that riff, if not secretly admit it's one of the best. This and Du Hast were the Rammstein gateway drugs back in the day. It's also one of the best music videos ever made, of any genre (also worth noting, that jackhammer Till is holding weighs like 30kg, or roughly 70lbs)
I'm sure someone has said this already, but in the Grimm's version, Snow White was never actually dead, she was just in a kind of death-seeming coma. As the prince's servants are moving Snow White's body to be buried, they trip while carrying her, which dislodges the piece of poisoned apple from her throat, thus reviving her. There's a little irony in the apple shattering this Snow White's glass coffin to revive her from her gold overdose.
the song was originally written as a "fighter song" for the Klitschko brothers. "Klitschko" was also the working title of the song. In the lyrics of the song, for example, hitting the opponent and counting the referee until the knockout is paraphrased

@@IASP17 it is yes, the standard count-out when a boxer goes down so it was supposed to suggest that Klitschko would knock out his opponent. Bit of psyching his opponent out intended.

To me, this is a story of co-dependence in a relation with a drug addict.
The love to the user allows her(usually him) to abuse and take advantage of you.
The violence takes away your self-esteem and you go back everyday into the mine to serve.
The co-dependence ends (kind'a) , when the addiction dies...but starts easily again if the addiction "wakes up".

"Die" Sonne is female in German. So the metapher makes sense.
there are some mistakes in the subtitles... for example he sings "and the world counts loud to ten" not quietly... but still a good song :)

I like how video and lyrics tell a different story. "Sonne" ist literally a song about a boxing fight and the feeling on your face when the fist hits it. (That's why they count to nine, too, even though he mentions "the world counts to ten")

@@hamzaahmad129 In some ways he is. He has good facial bone structure which means he started off handsome & remains so. But he's also too muscular & heavy built for me. I like his hair. It's naturally brown but he dyes it black now but he used to bleach it. I watched as many interviews of the band & the first one I saw was given by Richard. I thought I would develop a crush on him but I didn't.

There's a very tragic romanticism to it. Rammstein has a mythic Germanic tone in some songs. Wagnerian in a way. It makes me think of Odin, Thor, etc.

There is actually a demo song called 'Klitschko' from Rammstein on youtube with the original lyrics. Man..🤦♂️ how stupid the management from Vitali and Vladimir was to not using it as entrance music.. The song has nothing to do with snow white at all, the song is all about boxing 😅
I was really hoping they remembered the end of "Deutschland" but I have to admit even my sister who is a hardcore Rammstein fan didn't caught that a piano version of "Sonne" is playing at the end of "Deutschland"
It was made in 2001. I wish I had known about this back then but was too busy into American and British bands so had never heard of Rammstein until this year when they performed in my city and also there were satirical articles about them in Newsthump. One about them peforming in the Platinum Jubilee for the Queen since so many Germans had married into the British Royal Family.

I'm actually going to get the part where it says "she is the brightest star of all and all never fall from the sky" tattooed on me cos my left shoulder, ribs & hip is covered in stars. Being in German it will be interesting to see if people try to tell me I'm ordering food or something lol.

There is one translation error in the video subtitles. "Und die Welt zaehlt laut bis 10" = "And the world loudly counts to 10", and not quietly as it is written in the subtitles.
You could translate it as counts out loud, as in so they can be heard. But yeah it's definitely not quietly.
In principle, it is the sadomasochistic variant of Snow White. This describes the toxic relationships between people and with drugs.
The sun could be seen with reference to the video as the intoxication that emanates from drugs.
Basically, however, as far as I know, the video adheres more to the original fairy tale and not the effeminate child-friendly Disney version.
Btw the apple killed Snow White in the Disney version. The coffin shattered when the dwarves accidentally dropped it during transport to the prince's castle.
Snow White then spat out the apple again and lived.
Rammstein turns this around. The apple smashes the coffin and brings her back. The toxic relationship can continue
In the making of video Paul was saying he was chosen to be spanked unanimously by the rest of the band as he's the shortest. Flake looks as if he is getting ready to be spanked but doesn't get filmed being spanked.

There was one in my city this summer but I wasn't into them otherwise I would have gone. But it would have been difficult as I had severe hay fever in June and July this year after not having hay fever for twenty years.

That video was the best! The true mining dwarves of mythology, meeting with the lost enchanted princess. She sniffed all the gold and diamonds until she overdosed. Do you know the song Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds? It's actually about LSD.

The translation is kinda iffy. For example "the world counts quietly to ten" is actually "loud to ten".
But it gets the message across, and I love this song :)

the German language has no silent letters..except the letter combi "ie" here the "e" is silent and just an indicator to pronounce the "i" long and in some cases the "h" after a vowel which is also just an indicator to pronounce the vowel long but those 2 are the only exceptions for "silent letters" in the german language..just saying.
Therefore in "Sonne" every letter is pronounced.
By the way the chorus is the same as like in the song "Deutschland" the piano piece at the end.
In German we call the shot on which one dies on "goldener Schuss", meaning golden shot. So we she kills herself with the gold, it is quite literally a golden shot.
I saw the making of video and the actress looked different in the make up chair than she did in the actual video. Her face was smaller and the wig larger. I think there was trick filmography to change that. Flake looked quite good in that video.

The Symbolic reminds me of how propaganda works. The music artist Woodkid has depicted it in a similar way in the song Goliath. Also with underground workers. Woodkid made the Music for the Videogame Assassins Creed and was viewed 90 Millions on youtube.
