Matthew Vaughn discusses his early days of filling ketchup bottles, teaming up with Guy Ritchie, and the stress of shooting his first movie, Layer Cake.
Same here. Kingsmen was the best theater experience ever. It came out when I was in high school and all my buddies and I bought tickets to a PG-13 movie and "snuck" into Kingsmen. It was already one of the best movies I had ever seen...and then Free Bird started blasting.
@@jesseowenvillamor6348 I actually still enjoyed them. Both flawed but entertaining nontheless. I just think the first one is a masterpiece (in my eyes anyway)
I saw Argylle today and loved it. Matthew Vaughn has such a great artistic style that carries over into every single one of his movies, I'm looking forward to whatever he does next.
Been following Chris for years and love Matthew Vaughn movies like Kickass and Kingsmen so this is a perfect watch/listen ❤ Looking forward to seeing Argylle
Matthew Vaughn is one of the directors that make fun enjoyable movies that you can watch multiple times. Sometimes that's all you need is just have a good time and not having to overthink everything.
Imagine getting into the business so early, that you haven't even learned how a movie is made yet. How was there a time when someone who hasn't learned the basics of filmmaking, was allowed to make a feature film with significant money, people, and resources?
Funny how both Mathew and Guy started together, working on the same films, and then 20 years later, they almost like competitors. Both have spies films coming out this year with Henry Cavil, lol.
As a young struggling filmmaker (lol) these podcasts have been an incredible resource of advice and inspiration. I don’t know how possible this would be, but it’d be amazing if you could somehow get Mike Flanagan on here. Keep it up Chris 🙏🏼
You know people are allowed to like movies that others don’t? That’s how cult classics are created. You shouldn’t only care about the rotten tomatoe score and if that’s all you care about then you don’t really care about film
Vaughn is a true talent. I wish he made more comic book movies because he has shown a deep knowledge of the genre, and he would make the best Superman movie ever.
Dude congratulations for you! I've been watching and trusting you for years, glad to see you have branched out with your content. I hope you can get more guests on
His story to becoming a director is low key super inspirational. He had a vision and ambition but was still kinda having to learn on the job, but didn’t let it deter him and just got it done. Sometimes it just takes passion and drive…and maybe a lil bit of bullshit’n 😈 ~_~
These podcasts should 100% be video format.. I cannot stand listening to just audio when you get visuals it allows the audience to feel like their part of the discussion
My 1st thought of "i could make movies" was in my freshman year of high school. This was before i went from school to school since i was moving at the time but for my freshman year i went to technical school that had film as a class, i was very excited and glad i took it because during my time there i did commercials, short films and silent films and other projects. As i was doing this class this is when i started coming up with so many movie ideas and scripted them. I know they arent completed since then and yes ive been still working on them and the other schools i went to werent technical schools and the closest thing i took was theatre at these schools. However im taking college classes now to help pursue my film career and desire and ill still remember that my film class back at southtech academy was the reason i wanted to get into filmmaking and made me see my love for films and appreciation and what makes us inspired to make these magical things we call, Movies. And i hope to one day have my foot out there.
He's a fantastic director, who has a great body of work, but I maybe don't find this episode as inspirational as for instance David F. Sandberg's or Danny Phillipou, because Matthew Vaughn came from tremendous wealth. It's just straight up impossible for any aspiring filmmakers listening to this to have a path into the industry even close to his.
Since it’s an Apple TV produced film, I sadly doubt it, since Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon have yet to get physical releases either and were also produced by Apple.
at a buffet, i personally sneak corndogs into the buffet so others can enjoy them. I hide 6 corndogs in my jacket pockets. it then, is a joy for me to see other patrons of the establishment eat my corndogs thinking they were part of the buffet.
That Charlie Day "Welcome To London" (Ya Mug) track where I did the vocal in Fabric London on the dancefloor was partly "Layer Cake" inspired. (Nes Manga)
If you haven't seen Layer Cake, don't avoid it. It is excellent! Especially for a first-time director. This movie is also aptly named. Daniel Craig stars; he is brilliant!
Oh yeah, everybody…this is the interview that makes him so aggressively bad for reviewing Argylle. He didn’t interview him specifically about the movie, guys 😂.
wow how did you get matthew fucking vaughn o.O I know I wouldve asked him to make kick-ass 3! literally the only legacy sequel I wanna watch. the story needs to be concluded :D
Matthew Vaughn should pick better scripts. Hes a good director that gets held back only by bad writing. Some people forget the director doesnt always write their movies.
@@Luke101 But The Kingsman 2, The Kingsman prequel and Argylle sucked doem,He deffo needs a comeback with good scripts. He's a great director and same thing is happening with Zack Snyder a great director but both are just awful writers.
Is Matthew Vaughn from a rich or influential family? Doesn’t really make sense how you can just start producing films at 23 with no experience or money? I don’t understand lol
@@SimonHergott what's pathetic is making long form videos just spewing hate and negativity over things the way EFAP does. Drinker's videos can be more nuanced than most of those guys, but he still associated with that type of content and definitely leans more into the "listen to me hate on this" content. Chris is still critical of films, he just doesn't make full videos on movies he dislikes anymore. He's pursuing a career as a filmmaker and is making an actual feature film which is super impressive and not pathetic in the slightest. People in the industry usually don't sit around shitting on each other's work.
@@inumidunoyenuga5333 Yeah. Chris is making moves in the industry interviewing legit filmmakers, while also making a feature film of his own. Hopefully he goes back to making great films again. Stardust and Xmen were quality. I love Kickass too. He's made a lot of below average junk since... :(
Vaughn is a really goated director but all he needs is to move away from this spy genre. And he should produce upcoming Kingsman movies instead of directing them.
Damn I think this is the highest-profile guest you've had yet! Keep up the good work!
Hell yea! Great interview Chris
What great work, sucking up to hollywood insiders? 😂
Matthew Vaughn is a quality director. Layer Cake and Stardust are both criminally underrated.
Welcome to the Layer cake, son
