Literally one of the best tutorials for ILS landing, not too much technical, not too little technical, nice voice as well :), thanks a lot man. Can't wait to practice it on mfs
This video was actually really easy to follow, all the other tutorials I've tried to follow use way too many technical terms and skip explanations. Great work!
I purchased the Xbox series x as soon as MSFS announced it on Xbox. Since then I’ve been watching many many videos about VOR, ILS landing, etc. Today, June 21, 2023 I was able to flight start to finish an ILS landing flight. And thanks to you. I really appreciate it. I watched this video MSFS: ILS Approach…, maybe five times and then I executed it and for the first time I did a complete flight and I also received compliments from Xbox. Thank you. You got yourself a new follower.
I've been looking for a clearer understanding re. how to use the G1000 for an ILS approach. Your explanation is outstanding. I'm bookmarking it so that I can watch it several times over...and take copious notes. Thanks much!
Dude no way I am literally watching this at work, a stones throw from KIGM! We're a TINY airport with no commercial service and our population is relatively small as well.. I thought I was having a stroke when I saw you load into KIGM. Excellent tutorial I can't wait to fly this over and over again for practice. I take off from KIGM regularly as I'm familiar with landmarks and terrain having lived here my whole life.
You are a SUPERSTAR !!!! I have looked at allot of instructional videos for MSFS. Some of the people talk so fast and click on this and click on that before you can realize what they have done. I get so mad at these people !!! I'm watching this video because I don't know what to do and they go thru it so fast I cut it off because they are not helping me. You are a breath of fresh air, I could follow you with each step. Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are an amazing teacher! No boring sections, always something between the lines to learn. THANKS! It would be so cool if MS had ILS and things you covered in a tutorial as they have for normal flight.
Just found this channel while learning ILS. Your two ILS videos clearly explained the concepts. I've watched many videos and docs but they are not as clear as yours. Bonus funny moments to boot. Thanks.
I quit playing for like a year, literally cant remember anything. Glad these videos are on the internets. Cause i forgot about approach plates, ILS, everything.
Great explanation, best guides I have seen so far. Very detailed while being straightforward and easy to follow, you deserve a lot more views. Keep up the good work.
For someone completly new to flight simulators, this was awsome. Easy to understand and you explained everything I have not yet found answers to elsewhere! Thank you! :)
This was THE BEST and I mean THE BEST ILS toturial i have ever watched FINALY i know what ILS is and through this video i found out what Localizer and GS is too THANK YOU!!!
Unbelievable... With to this video and some practice I nailed it in a day, and I am already teaching others. It's embarrassingly simple once you do it a couple of times lol. It's so much fun. Thank you !
Superb explanation sir. Thanks, I am a solo x-c pilot and I don't fly anymore but with your instruction of ILS use it makes it so much better to fly in all weather.TY
I was near enough giving up on all this, but my friend you have shown me the way. Just done a complete flight, with flight plan followed and it felt great. You put all the pieces of the puzzle together cheers man much love ❤️
Awesome Video and more than great explanation! Guys you always have to fly into the needle at the Localizer and to the diamond at the Glide Slope. Keep that in mind and you'll ride that thing exactly to your runway!
Hey Kip, just tuning into your channel as I get up and running with FS2020. Dude, these are super helpful and have really cleared up a lot of very frustrating moments I've had. Really appreciate you taking the time to do these!
This not only explains it well for a game but I’ve used this to clear up a lot of confusion in my instrument training, a regular instructor can’t teach in plain English like this.. Going to practice on MSFS now.
Very very nice video. One thing of note, the reason the glideslope ends up showing you low is because the glideslope and the PAPI lights are not connected
ATC being buggy is an understatement, did a flight from Montgomery to Atlanta and it just spent the whole flight bouncing me between the two centers 😅 The entire flight was "contact Montgomery center"... "Contact Atlanta Center"... Until I just went ahead and muted ATC.
Thanks for video. Always professional and well done. RW instrument pilot here. The MSFS ATC is mostly way off from real world. I would not use it unless you are a new to RW sim flying. Could lead to very bad habits and expectations. Suggest use Pilotedge or Vatsim. Also, listening and repeating ATC commands, twisting Frequencies is a big part of flying, which, when done automatically is cutting corners. This all depends on whether you are gamer or RW flight simmer, I guess.
Thanks so much for the video. One observation: the tower instructed you repeatedly to descend to 8.000 FT on your way to Prino :)) (07:02 for atc text)
No sweat! Please do keep pointing out potential mistakes, since I learn a lot from them and I’m sure there are many, especially in my older videos 😆 I got lucky this time 😀
very well explanined without it being overtly complicated. thank you ! Quick question, if the autopilot doesnt have control over the throttle, how does it maintain the glide slope so accurately ?
It's worth noting that if ATC assigns "maintain 4,900 until established...." You must continue descending at normal rate to the assigned altitude, THEN intercept GS. Don't arrest the descent unless you're cleared at or above the specified altitude.
Great teaching: The GS green diamond does not appear to be a sharp contrasting color with respect to the surrounding background, which prompts the question..can someone who is to a degree color blind get approval to fly using modern Nav displays..? The older instrumentation with highly contrasting Bk/Wt (needles and degree graduations) seem far more suitable for rapid visual recognition.
Hey Perry, that's the FAA chart ("plate") for that specific ILS approach at KLAS. If you're flying in the US, you can find all the FAA's public Terminal Procedure charts here: www.faa.gov/air_traffic/flight_info/aeronav/digital_products/dtpp/search/ But I like using SkyVector.com, which is free and also makes it easier to look them up. Highly recommended :-) Real-life pilots tend to use the Jeppesen charts instead of the FAA ones, but I haven't used them myself yet.
Kip, are you a flight instructor? This tutorial is so good because you show us how to use the instruments to maneuver the plane in response to so many difference situations. I laughed out loud when ATC told you to lower altitude unexpectedly and a Jetliner was right above the little Cessna.
Excellent video. Thankyou. I notice a small magenta strip adjacent the GS green (vertical) bug when the GS is captured. I presume this has something to do with the Flight Director ? As it covers a few feet, does this imply that you can use this in relation to gauge your throttle control or does it have some other implication?
Wow - who knew ... very detailed kudos. Im curious what the most common mistake is for not capturing the Glide Slope (GS) ? Whatever it is i must be doing that. Apparently entering the NAV Freq is not necessary all the time ? I do most of the flight planning on the world map since the SimBriefs is like some 1950s line printer output that is impossible to read ( I will learn it - promise), and Navigraph is cool, but not intuitive to build Departures and Arrivals...I am able to get a flight plan that works with Approaches to ILS runways. I really appreciate the detail in explaining the differences in the Approach features, I had no idea ! DCS is so simple for Auto Pilot features. Finally what is the best way to turn those bloody knobs without having to use a mouse ??
Kip, thanks for the reply. Now have two more questions. First have you heard of anyone logbook on MSFS 2020 stop recording flight? Mine has stopped and not recorded the last 5 flights. Wrote Microsoft twice, but have yet to receive a response from them. Now last question, I am flying and IFR from Natchez Ms. to Pine Bluff ARK. On last leg before turning final. Tune from GPS to ILS. Picks up heading course, then turn on approach. When gets to glide slope, plane keeps on flying straight passing glide slope. Diamond is green and just keeps going down pass center. Any ideas on what I missed?
Really enjoying these tutorials. Haven't flown in the sim for months but looking to get back into it soon and one thing I never fully got down was ILS and glide slopes etc.
Hello, excellent tutorial! I am fairly new to MSFS and am learning. I was wondering where do you get those charts that you mentioned in your tutorial? Is it in the game?
GREAT VIDEO. Have a question though.. I flew this path but my Navigraph chart has the localizer for 26L 111.5. Do the frequencies change? Should I have used it from the PFD like you did instead of the charts? My approach was waaaaay off... by a couple hundred yards. I stopped flying this plane because the G1000 kept CTD.
Great video, very clear instruction and audio is much better than most. But something has changed in the G1000 for the C172 in more recent FS as of June 2023 - I can't get the flight plan function to work the same way, or any other way for that matter. Would you consider updating your video?
Newer version with the G1000 NXi: ruclips.net/video/T28kPcGR7K0/видео.html
Am I stupid? Will I never understand ILS Approach? Nope just hadn't found your video. Great tutorial and you are a very good teacher, thank you.

I don't think there is a person who explains it with such clarity and detail . Thank you Kip!
I have never seen a more clear and concise tutorial regarding ILS and autopilot. Well done. +1 sub here.
Just wanted to say, this is is one of the best ILS tutorials I've seen that's concise and actually gives you all of the instructions you need. Thanks!
I've been looking for a clearer understanding re. how to use the G1000 for an ILS approach. Your explanation is outstanding. I'm bookmarking it so that I can watch it several times over...and take copious notes. Thanks much!
very much appreciate the volume and pace of your speaking delivery. i will look forward to more.

As a newer MSFS pilot, I found your tutorial to be pure training gold. Keep up the great work Kip! New sub. here.

This tutorial is absolute gold. Your entire series is great. I'm taking tons of notes and practicing. Keep up the great work.
Just found you on YT and this was my first vid from you and I LOVED IT. I subscribed! keep up the great tutorials.
Damn! An ILS tutorial that even my pea brain can understand. This is all new to me. You’re doing The Lord’s work! 😎
I love the honesty of leaving the departure from centerline on touchdown in. This video is gonna get me out of the 152.
Good old MSFS ATC: "Climb and maintain 10,600" ... in an unpressurised aircraft. Perfect.
These tutorials are saving me a lot of frustration, great job mate! 👍👍🇦🇺
Best ILS explanation I've seen. Thank you!
Had my first ILS landing last night. I keep watching this video and it’s working. Using the RSG G1000 suite makes the realism even greater.
For someone completly new to flight simulators, this was awsome. Easy to understand and you explained everything I have not yet found answers to elsewhere! Thank you! :)
KIP - Great job and an excellent video for flying a G-1000.
This was THE BEST and I mean THE BEST ILS toturial i have ever watched
FINALY i know what ILS is and through this video i found out what Localizer and GS is too

Perfect tutorial. Congratulations. I live in the city of Recife, located in the northeast of Brazil and I am a follower of your channel. Jr Breda
Superb explanation sir. Thanks, I am a solo x-c pilot and I don't fly anymore but with your instruction of ILS use it makes it so much better to fly in all weather.TY
Best explanation for shooting an ILS with the G1000 I've seen. Thanks man. Worthy of a sub!

Copied this flight and just finished my first ILS approach! Fun! THanks!!
Thanks Kip. Best tutorial video I’d found on MSFS. Very easy to follow, fantastic delivery and gave me all the information I needed.
It is really well-explained ILS approach. Enjoy watching :)
I have been watching a lot of G1000 vids for ILS, and you nailed this one. Very informative with some great information.
Thanks Mike!
Hey Kip, just tuning into your channel as I get up and running with FS2020. Dude, these are super helpful and have really cleared up a lot of very frustrating moments I've had. Really appreciate you taking the time to do these!
16:32 was hilarious!!! love the content!!!!!!!!!!!!
This not only explains it well for a game but I’ve used this to clear up a lot of confusion in my instrument training, a regular instructor can’t teach in plain English like this.. Going to practice on MSFS now.
Absolutely The best ILS training, EVER!
If you push the HEADING KNOB it will always line up to your direction. A practice that should always be used, especially on approach.
Excellent tutorial with nice bits of info not mentioned in other videos. You are a natural teacher. Thanks
Great quality on the video Kip, going to practice some more ILS now :)
Very very nice video. One thing of note, the reason the glideslope ends up showing you low is because the glideslope and the PAPI lights are not connected
I’ve watched so many tutorials, finally this one answers my questions! Thank you!
Thank you for this video, nice and easy to follow with clear and unrushed content. looking forward to the next one.
Excellent video. I may have to watch it a few times to master ILS approaches but this tutorial will sure help. Thanks !
Used this tutorial to successfully perform my first precision approach (with G1000nxi). Worked like a charm. Thank you sir.
Really, this is the best tutorial video I've already found.
Best tutorial I've seen on ILS landing.
ATC being buggy is an understatement, did a flight from Montgomery to Atlanta and it just spent the whole flight bouncing me between the two centers 😅

Thanks for pointing out the quirks in MSFS ILS!
Nice job.....too funny with the plane flying over
16:05 my pucker factor was going so high watching that MFD map screen with the second airplane icon slowly catching up to yours lol
One of the best ils tutorials I've seen. Thank you
Spot on again fella 👌👍
Thanks so much for the video. One observation: the tower instructed you repeatedly to descend to 8.000 FT on your way to Prino :)) (07:02 for atc text)
Looks like that call was for Southwest 1453 :-) I had live traffic on and I guess they were on the same approach!
@@KipOnTheGround right, I didn't realize that. Sorry :)
No sweat! Please do keep pointing out potential mistakes, since I learn a lot from them and I’m sure there are many, especially in my older videos 😆 I got lucky this time 😀
@@KipOnTheGround ;)
The best video I've found on this. Thank you so much!
This is the best tutorial i've found during the countless hours i've spent looking. Thank you!
This is the best video on ILS I've seen so far
Great presentation. Clear video that steps through the process in a logical manner and presents it in easily digestible sections.
very well explanined without it being overtly complicated. thank you ! Quick question, if the autopilot doesnt have control over the throttle, how does it maintain the glide slope so accurately ?
Just by pitching the nose up and down. If it has an excess of power, it will need to pitch down further to descend at the same/desired rate.
Explained very clearly, this is what I was looking for, subscribed!
This is amazing. Love the way you broke everything down
It's worth noting that if ATC assigns "maintain 4,900 until established...." You must continue descending at normal rate to the assigned altitude, THEN intercept GS. Don't arrest the descent unless you're cleared at or above the specified altitude.
I was wondering what to do with GA1000 with no pre-entered flight plan. Thank you for your video.

Where I can find that map at 10:00 ? BTW, one of the best ILS explanation I've seen.

Negative, but I've learned a lot the last couple years and love simming :-) Haha, yeah, that traffic was a surprise 😂
Excellent video, brilliantly explained. Thank you!
Really good advice and help. I was messing up the approach and you helped me understand where I was going wrong. Thank you
This video is clear and precise and easy to follow. Kip On The Ground my go to source!
Hands down best ILS tutorial! Top!
your video made the ILS landing clear for me, other videos I watched do to many things at once, now it is time to try for myself
Excellent video. Thankyou. I notice a small magenta strip adjacent the GS green (vertical) bug when the GS is captured. I presume this has something to do with the Flight Director ?
