This was very well paced video. And speaking straight to my level. I appreciate you clarifying terms prior to using them. Being vaguely familiar with them doesn't cut it when MSFS 2024 career mode starts.
Just found your channel and subscribed. Thank you. Finally, a very informative video that is clear on the whole process. About to fly the same plan to better get it in my head of the complete start to finish.
Thanks so much for this! A google search for "MSFS Garmin Tutorial" brought me here. New MSFS 2024 pilot, but not new to flight sims. New to GA, however. This video is GOLD - your instructing style is exactly what I was looking for in a tutorial. Well done, sir! Thank you. Subscribed and will check out your other content. Are you playing 2024?
very helpful tried to do it on simbrief, simbrief does not allow you to choose runway and also the vor radials as you zoom in they just disappear hard to see the radial degree
Simbrief isn't great for VOR flying, if you'd like to learn how to do that, I have another series on analog flying with Navigraph: ruclips.net/p/PL6zBzRRsfGL-kCEhUcEJHwuY4JG7KRQcU
Question. What am I doing that whenever I’m in autopilot it never follows my approach procedure. Also I don’t see VNAV armed or a Top Of Descent icon on my PFD.
Nice! I learned something I never saw before: TOD Top of descent. Handy especially if you want to hand fly. Why did the auto pilot choose 500 FPM to descend at? Beside your desired altitude (2500 then changed to 500) is 835 in magenta. What does that number mean?
Hi Mark, I watched several video you've made; all excellent. I have two questions if I may? Do you know how to turn off the annoying 'Button label' that gets in the way of the dials for Comm and Nav frequency dialing? I am using MFS 2020 and Little NavMap to create a flight plan. I succeed saving the LNMPLN file and exporting the flight plan to a PLN format, but it does not show up in the Garmin G1000 after loading it from Microsoft Flight Sim. I wonder if I am using the proper directories?
Yes, the labels can be turned off in the Accessibility options in MSFS2020. I think it’s called tooltips. For LNM, I’m not sure since I don’t use it very much.
@FlightSimSchool thanks for the quick response. I watched your tutorial on the G1000 this morning and it is so well done. It's not the first one I watched, but you gave some additional flight plan tips that I was not aware of. You are a time saver, and a great teacher.
Just started flying and only with the 152, ready to fly an aircraft with the G1000 and was thinking about the Bonanza, what are your thoughts on that aircraft? I will watch the video a few times to get the hang of things
It's nice because it has a high cruise speed. It also has a proper throttle, prop and mixture so it's a bit more complex but it's fun to learn about that stuff
Great videos, but I'm struggling with differences between your version and mine, or some unknown base settings. For example, when I try to turn my range knob, it turns yellow, and the range doesn't change. Grr.
This will be a great video (as yours consistently are) just as soon as I can figure out how to get the cursors to actually look like and act like the ones you use on the MFD. I've been all over RUclips and the MSFS Community looking for answers and nothing works. Something's missing for me and I don't know what. Gr-r-r.
If yours are blue when you hover over them, you have to go in accessibility options and change the interaction mode (or something like that) to legacy or classic
You can get it from the weather tab in the EFB, or if you want a way to set it quickly, you can make a key to the 'SET ALTIMETER' binding, and it'll always automatically set it to the correct setting.
You can have a flight plan and use the tools at your disposal regardless of if you're doing a VFR or IFR flight. An instrument flight means you must use the flight plan that you loaded to get to your destination since you likely can't see where you're going
@ thank you so much for a quick reply! it is awesome I get replied while watching your video. Your explanations are always very easy to understand and helpful. Thank you!
I'm using a keyboard and mouse and I'm not able to get to Origin in the FPL on the G1000. Inner or outer wheel won't let me activate the Origin input field. What am I doing wrong?
@@FlightSimSchool I found the problem. Had to change the "Cockpit interaction system" from "Legacy" to "Lock" in Settings | General | Flight Interface. Very frustrating.
Hi Amir, I am working on a comparison video for all the A320s :) I’m just giving the FBW team a week or so more to deliver their FMS v2 so that it’s as relevant as possible.
I feel stupid and frustrated. At 2:10, I cannot get the 2nd waypoint information menu by turning the inner knob(the mouse wheel). I can only get the 2nd menu by pressing the direct to button, but I cannot make the selection even though I entered the airport code.
The click points are very close together, I often accidentally turn the big one when I want to turn the little one. I think that might be what’s happening to you
@@FlightSimSchool Unfortunately, it is not the case. I have the inner knob blue highlighted in flashing blue when it is selected (with assisted option ON); I can see and hear the inner knob turning when I move my mouse wheel. But it does not show the 2nd waypoint menu no matter what I do. The NAV and CRS knobs are working fine. I restarted the flight sim many times, and I cannot get the knob working. I don't know if it is some controller conflict. I use Turtle Beach Velocity Flight Stick with all default settings and cannot see why conflict should occur. It is very frustrating getting stuck with simple things like this. This is one of many things with MSFS that ruins the experience as a beginner.
Ah, it's because you're using the new experience for interacting with the controls. I'd suggest setting it to Legacy mode, it's much easier to interact with everything. You'll know you'll have it set correctly when you don't get the blue flashing when hovering over controls.
@@FlightSimSchool Thanks for the suggestion. But the inner knob issue persists even after I change it from lock to legacy mode. I will have to search the MSFN forum to see if anybody else has had the same problem. Also, I will need to read the 600+ pages Garmin 1000 pilot's manual.
@@FlightSimSchool Ok I got caught out by the flashing Origin-____ and tried hopelessly to change it. I missed out on the subtle detail that I have to move the flashing cursor to the field below. It is not intuitive to use.
I hope the video includes subtitles. The subtitles automatically generated on RUclips are not accurate. If there are subtitles, subscribers from non-English-speaking countries can understand the content better.
Question for a new simmer! Do you recommend buying this on steam or using game pass? I’m a private pilot trying to use sim for practice so I want realistic so I can use VAtsim and IFR?
Sorry I didn’t get back to you earlier, saw your question on the other video. I think considering flight sim 2024 is coming out in a few months you’re better off to go with game pass for now, and re evaluate once 2024 comes out.

I’m always looking for ways to make my tutorials clearer, thanks for the feedback!
Generally just stumbled upon this channel and it's so helpful!
VERY helpful. You speak very clearly
Thanks for the refresher! The G1000 is such a helpful and versatile tool when used correctly.

Yes I am :) I’ve published two videos mostly on setup so far, but I’m starting a video on how I’m using the tablet right now!
@FlightSimSchool outstanding! Looking forward to seeing that tablet video.
Fine update video - many thanks.

Thanks so much for the video!! very helpful
Thanks for the steady wonderful info
Excellent presentation. Thanks
Great vidio, one question what about vnav use going up to top of climb or is that a but different set up
The VNAV in the G1000 in MSFS is only for descent, as far as I know
very helpfull video, thanks!

Why did the auto pilot choose 500 FPM to descend at?
Beside your desired altitude (2500 then changed to 500) is 835 in magenta. What does that number mean?
I believe it always defaults to calculating a 3 degree glide path, which in the 172 is 500 fpm

There’s a setting in the flight interface to switch it to legacy control mode, it works much better than the Xbox style interactions

Anyway to zoom in and out of GPS map?
Use your scroll wheel of the mouse
Range knob on the right of the display.
The first part about creating a flight plan is for VFR? so creating vfr fpln is same as ifr fpln except apporach is visual?

You have to left click (hold it down), then right click to bring up the cursor in MSFS2024
