Wow. I have an interview for a CFI position tomorrow for a school that uses autopilot and this video could not have dropped at a better time. Thank you so much.
Great point at the end. In flight school was just trained to click app when cleared. Only when I got to the airline world was it stressed to not click app until the next waypoint is FAF/glideslope intercept, and instead use VNAV or some other dumb vertical mode to ensure crossing restrictions were met, because GS will NOT always ensure you hit all crossing restrictions.
I just took my CFI-I check-ride and I made a mistake with the auto pilot. If you have the approach loaded, but not activated and you’ve already crossed the IAF make sure you activate the leg, and don’t click “activate approach” otherwise you will begin to get turned around back towards the IAF.
The last tip is gold. That said...won't some AP's automatically activate engage approach mode if the approach is loaded, and you are vectored onto one of the approach segments?
A coworker of mine deferred the autopilot GFC600 because it wouldn't arm the approach. I told him the autopilot head didn't recognize an approach waypoint in the gps so it didn't let you arm the approach.

Best of luck!
Good luck

This is good to know… thanks for sharing!
Haha, jokes on you. My flight school's autopilot are all inop.
Great presentation. Thanks
Outstanding. Thank you!

Perhaps emphasize that one should never press APR before one is cleared for the approach.
Do you have a video that talks about the proper way to activate an approach on a GFC 500 when vectored in between the IAF and FAF?

I hate autopilot. That is all
