I am a beginner, I used a CCP-44 on a square crank, the videos I watched to do this didn’t specified the difference. I ruined my crank. Learned from my mistakes
Great video and helpful to someone that has just come across a crank removal issue like myself.
Thank you, Chris! That was beautiful. Had lined up the Park tool CCP-22 for purchase and this really helps!
SUPER-helpful! 🙏 Thank you so much…now I just need to order myself a crank puller.
Just wanted to take a moment to say thanks for the video. I watched a couple others and yours was by far the most clear and I was able to remove the crank arm. Much appreciated.
Great explanation! Thank you very much!
Great instruction. Thank you!
simple and to the point thank you!
You're welcome!
One more good push (on a longer wrench than yours) not working on my square crank with Park compact puller tool. I put a pipe over the wrench for some extra leverage and that worked but not without some effort.
Cool
If I can’t get my ccp22 to move, could I use a cheater bar for more torque? I don’t want to break the crank. Also the little piece that pushes the crank came off when I pulled it out. Not sure if that means anything
Cheater bar might rip out the threads in the crank.
3 years later, I know, but in case others read this, try using some heat on the cranks to expand it.
Any idea on the torque setting for the refitting of the crank bolt…?
It depends on the individual crank spec from manufacturer. Usually 40ish nm.
Hey Chris what is the best bike torque wrench?
I dont know for sure which is the best but I typically use the two sizes from park. Pedro's makes a good one as well. If owned ones from snap on and craftsman also but would advise caution if buying in from a non bike company. Often non bike ones are hard to find with newton meters and ft-lbs.
Can the CCP-22 be used on Schwinn indoor cycling bikes?
Yes if they have square taper cranks. (Most do)
@@ChrisEnockson Let me ask you another question... my crank arms are loose, even after tightening the crank arm bolts, they're still loose. I don't know if I need to replace the crank arms, the bottom bracket, both or something entirely different? Appreciate your help.
That is a Allan nut not a bolt because a bolt needs a spanner or socket
How can you remove if you dont have a tool
Just buy one. They are cheap. But buy a CWP-7 model instead. Otherwise you can only remove them destructively, e.g. with an angle grinder or hacksaw and a hammer and chisel.

Nah, you cheated. You took the crank off earlier and greased it. No idea how many decades I've been working on bikes and never seen one greased new or old. I think the CWP-7 type, and a ring spanner, is the better puller to work with, especially on old, corroded bikes where it takes several turns to take the crank off. The problem with these are the handle often interferes with the pedals, meaning you need to take the pedals off first (a big problem when you are taking the cranks off BECAUSE you can get the pedals off), or it's difficult to line them up at the right angle so that you can use the leverage of crank arm and the puller arm to separate them. You often end up with the arm aligned with the crank, so you can't push on it.
Using the CWP-7 type, you can turn the spanner to get a good angle to push down on, and it's also easier to put a pipe over a spanner if you need extra leverage.
Bought one, regretted it.
With the later type, you can screw out the nose a little to help with the angle but I don't think that's what it's designed for and I reckon will probably end up damaging the threads. Others do them with nose adjusters for both the square and the octi cranks.
