The trailer gave me more faith. As a fan of the book and stage show I was weary of Ariana's casting but the trailer really looked wonderful!
lol she is 37
It looks awful. Bland and generic hollywood tripe. They just need to leave things alone. Stop adapting everything. Not everything should be a movie.
!!!!!!!!
Not everyone was able to see the stage performance, my daughter surprised me for Christmas when it came out, with a trip to see Wicked ,otherwise I'd have never seen the show( both of us are huge WOO fans)😊
Seeing Dorothy wearing silver slippers like what the original book described was really cool, even if it was for a split second.
1:23
isnt this some sort of unofficial prequel?
So here in germany wicked had a new stage production in 2022, changing lots of the original production. One point being the shoes are silver.. I loved that moment so much as I noticed it 😊 many people think the new rendition here was shit but I think otherwise. Yes, it changed a lot, but is was more modern and certain plot points were moved into "our " world.. I'm sad that it was cancelled, but if you search for wicked hamburg you'll find a few videos of the new show if you would like to watch it
@@TherizinosaurusIt’s an official one that was a book, then turned into an award winning musical.
@@DubeIncorperated the book was unofficial prequel, wasn't it?
They gave Dorothy her proper silver slippers!
Proper color aside, the design is to die for. I do hope that we get a brief refrence to the ruby red color, maybe some more red sparkles or beads embedded into the jewelry...
That’s the original design in the book. It was a metaphor for the author to symbolize the pro-silver movement. The movie production made them ruby so they would stand out against the yellow brick road.
@@ericd8998 Yes, we all already know that. 😆

When I was a kid, I fell in LOVE with this musical Wicked. Saw it four times. At that time, Idina Menzel was my idol
I saw Eden Espinosa but I’m jealous for you as the first time I heard Idina sing was the cast album
same!
This movies looks like they are paying homage to the original book, 1939 film, Gregory Maguire’s novel, and the original musical all at once.
Cynthia Evyrio (The Color Purple), Ethan Slater (SpongeBob Musical), Ariana Grande (Victorious), Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman) and Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park) has me TOTALLY excited for this
You’re telling me! I work at a grocery store and I had to call for a cleanup on aile 5 do to my sugar wall juice spill.
and Bowen Yang!
i think Cynthia Erivo is 37 a little old to be playing a girl
@@jonnym4670i think you just want something to complain about
Don't forget Waitress for Keala Settle, and, of course, Jonathan Bailey who was in Company and The Last 5 Years
Just nine more months to go until this movie is on our screens. It has such an impressive, all star cast.
My sister and I are excited to see it, I was surprised that Michelle Yeoh is in it. I wonder if she can sing. Just out of curiosity, which Wizard of Oz is better: The OG Wizard of Oz or The Wiz?
You mean…part 1.
I was thumbing through my program way back when during a showing of "Les Misérables" in Seattle, and I noticed that "Wicked" was coming to The Paramount Theater there. I begged my parents if we could go, and we did. I remember watching, captivated (I did not know the show at that time, just that it was a prequel to "The Wizard of Oz", which I was *very* familiar with) and felt goosebumps over my entire body during the entire Defying Gravity number. I was physically shaking, I was so moved, and just never wanted it to end.
My sister took me to see the show last year and it was fabulous!
I was completely blown away by this preview. I didn't quite recognize it at first and then didn't dare to expect it.
It looks really great! I'm disappointed that it'll be a two-parter, but that typically means that they're taking extra care with the story and the other details so I'll concede to that.
I didn't really think about Dorothy and her group, but I did recognize the silver slippers. Red showed up much better using that new Technicolor process.
I'm really looking forward to this. Wicked is one of my favorite musicals of all time, and it's about time it got a film adaptation. Arianna Grande looks great in it.
she looks plastic
The trailer looks cool. I'm curious about what the final product will look like. It's nice to see Ariana Grande in a leading role again since Victorious.
actually since sam and cat
As far as musical moments go, I'm waiting to see just how epic "As Long As You're Mine" is going to be between Cynthia and Jonathan
Is it wrong that I still want them to release the original Wicked cast with Idina and Kristin? A DVD, netflix special or something. But I want to see Wicked with the original cast. I refuse to believe there's no good recording somewhere.
THIS!! I’m so used to listening to the original soundtrack I’m so afraid I will be disappointed.
Thoughts are nothing to describe how much I’m excited for this. I might be an adult, I love being excited and as a major fan, I’m definitely looking forward to the movie that’s going to Defy Gravity
I feel like they are going to pull things from the book that are not in the stage musical and I'm very intrigued to see how they blend the two 🤔
Loved the music and the musical, not sure that it needs to be in 2 parts,
If follows the book and not the musical, it for sure needs 2 parts.
I'm cautiously optimistic. But Universal is also responsible for the disappointing Les Miserables and Cats.
Agreed. The difference here is that Universal has always had Wicked's name attached to it. The company was the biggest producer of the musical back when and I like to think they know that their stage darling absolutely needs to be good on screen. The stakes are pretty high, unlike most film musical adaptations that came before. The fact they cast people with stage experience and who happen to be pretty darn right for the role, is a massive step in the right direction. I still think Cynthia is miscast to a degree, but when it could have been so much worse? I'll take it. I will say...as I understand it, Jessie J was in the running and there is footage of her singing some of Elphaba's material floating around and it's ROCKS. If they were going to celebrity cast, Jessie J was the best choice and the right vocal match. Cynthia seems to be struggling to sing this, and I'm not entirely shocked, she's a very RnB type of voice singing what needs an edgy pop voice...kinda like when Legend did Jesus in JCS. But honesty, I'm not unhappy at all with the casting choices, they all have stage experience, can sing, know this show very well, so as long as the movie is anything like this teaser? I thin it'll be ok.
Les Mis was ok’ish… but a bummer script start to finish anyway. This is funny, adventurous, exciting, beautiful… I’m really betting this will be a total knock out. 🫧 🧹
@@jenniferhiemstra5228I think they cast Cynthia Erivo bc she's Oscar bait
I’m thrilled I saw neither. But at least Mamma Mia was solid
Look at how disappointing Disney has been of late.
I know a lot of times, scenes from the trailer never make it into the finished movie. So I am really trying not to prejudge the movie and base my opinion based solely on this one trailer. But man, it sure looks good so far!
I’m so excited for this movie! November can’t come fast enough
So am I! But I’m scared how it’ll compete with Moana 2
@@manuelorozco7760 Knowing Disney's recent propensity for mediocrity, I expect Wicked to blow Moana 2 out of the water, unless Moana's chicken gets a larger role.
@@terrib627 I’m glad we can agree Disney has been hit and miss in the last two years.
From all the musicals and movie musicals I’ve seen, Nothing Beats Wicked and I’m a fan
It’s a clue in to Elphie’s fate in the novel…. I’ve never had the good fortune of seeing the original stage production. Not just for Idina and Kristen, but I know I’ll never have another opportunity to see Joel Grey perform live again.
I read the novel when it came out, and when I heard about the musical, I bought a ticket and booked a flight....to San Francisco, where I saw the original cast, including Kristen Chenoweth as Glinda, Idina Menzel as Elfaba, Norbert Leo Butz as Fiyero, and Robert Morse as the Wizard.
Later when it was on Broadway I flew to New York and saw mostly the same cast, with Joel Grey as the Wizard.
I traveled a lot for theater in those days. I didn't have kids or a partner, and my job involved a lot of travel, which got me tons of airline miles, hotel points, and credit card points for travel expenses that I got reimbursed for by my employer. I even spent a year working in Manhattan (while living in Texas). I would purchase tickets using American Express points, and then walk from work to Times Square to see a show.
My last Theater Trip was in 2014, where I saw Pippin, Neil Patrick Harris as Hedwig, and Idina Menzel in If/Then. At the end of If/Then, they had an auction to raise money for Broadway Cares. They had a cue card with the first line of Let it Go. I participated, but dropped out of the bidding when it got over $1000. It sold for $2000. Then they said they had another cue card with the second line from the song, if someone was willing to match the final bid for the first cue card. My hand went up before I had a chance to think. The cue card also included a chance to go backstage and meet Idina Menzel.
My friends and I were escorted backstage where a couple of other cast members (Anthony Rapp and LaChanze) kept us company while Adele Dazeem met the person who had bought the first cue card. Someone came by and swiped my credit card while I was waiting. I accidentally used someone else's credit card and had to call Broadway Cares later to move the charge to mine. A waiter had returned the wrong card to me at lunch, and a friend I was dining with had my card.
Anyway, I got to meet her briefly, and had my picture taken with her and the other two stars. I have the cue card framed. It says
The wind is howling
like this swirling storm inside
Couldn't keep it in
Heaven knows I tried...
Now I have kids and we do family vacations. I haven't been on a plane since 2018.
@@kevinbailey8827 Very cool and interesting story! Yeah, it’s expensive to see shows on Broadway, paying for two people was $$$ - add children, even a matinee, is so pricey. Never mind travel and food. You were lucky when you were younger!
Wow! I almost didn’t recognize Arianna Grande. She looks good as a blonde
She's also a skeleton....
So looking forward to this! Its been a long time coming. ^^
This film looks AMAZING and I am here for it!!!!!!!
Is going to be wonderful wicked of part one and I definitely check it out when it releases and then the dvd too
Schwartz has pretty much told us Defying Gravity will be ending Part 1. He said it was a natural spot for a break and any scene after it felt anticlimactic.
I do remember reading it and I find it reasonable. Besides I think transitioning to Thank Goodness through one sitting would be jarring.
I swear that’s where intermission for the stage performance was too
@@Ebichuchu It is. It’s the finale of Act One
@@donei132 Okay good glad that 15 year old memory was correct 😂
I get goosebumps whenever I hear those first few bars of "Defying Gravity"....
Thank you for the update, MsMojo..!! Wow, Wicked (2024) is a must-watch movie.
This looks like it lives up to all of our expectations!! Everything looks rich and lush. I can't wait!! 👏👏
I remember seeing the broadway musical years ago in 2007 with my choir class😊
I saw it that same year too! That’s how long I’ve waited for this moment! I was 14 and I just turned 31
I was blown away by this trailer. The acting, the production design, the costumes and the musical numbers look very worthy for multiple Oscar wins.
Looks wonderful. I love the book and the musical.
7:53 the sliver shoes r also refers to “The Wiz” aka the black “Wizard Of Oz”
Not really; both are referencing the original novel, but not each other.
It’s gonna be wicked wonderful AND wonderfully wicked!!!!
Cindy E., and Ari Are Just Gorgeous, ...Michelle, Jeffrey And All The Others Make The Countdown To The Film, My New Obsession... Can't Wait!!! It Looks Amazing!!!
At 72 yrs. old, I'm as excited for this movie, as I was in the 1950's when 'The Wizard of Oz' was shown on TV at Christmastime.
Deadpool 3 and Madame Web receive blacklash but not this movie unbelievable 😅
its going to be wickedly wonderful!!! 💚💚💚
First of all it looks visually gorgeous! Secondly I’ve wanted this more than any other stage to screen adaptation since Wicked made me fall in love with musical theatre! I’m reserving my judgement on everything else until November. Lastly I’m surprised about the shot of the Silver Slippers and Toto!
So many people out there have never seen the Broadway show Wicked! I’m so glad they made it into a movie. I think more people will want to watch it.
I have seen Wicked on stage 9 times and I love it every time. Now I can’t wait for this to come to theaters. 🤩😍
Looks very interesting. Hopefully they successfully carry it off as a worthy successor of the stage version!
Wickedly wonderful 😮❤
Michelle Yoe! Every movie she is in becomes iconic.
Looks DELICIOUS !! can’t wait ~
(Jonathan Bailey ❤️❤️)
My first perception of the smoking hat was the aftermath of melting!!
Looks really good to me. What a cast!
I never saw the play only read the book. It’ll be interesting to see what the differences are
WHAO! Superstar cast, I’m blown away.
Spectacular! Cannot wait!
I (Aussie) have seen the Wicked musical 3 times over the years, hope the movie lives up to it
I've been waiting for this movie musical for years
So have I
I have played the Wicked video game, read tiny bit of the book and I like the cast and the costumes.
Wait, there’s a Wicked video game?
Huh I’ve never read the Wizard Of Oz books just seen the OG movie and some other remakes but I never knew the slippers were originally silver. Even in the Wiz Dorothy’s slippers were silver. That’s awesome!
OMG so excited!! Love Wicked!
Yo, I totally squealed when the trailer started
Wonderful
It looks WICKEDly awesome!!!
I checked IMDb and one of the cast members is listed as a wedding guest, so maybe we will see a wedding? Or at least the start of one.
SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!! 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Its absolutely my most anticipated this year
I can’t wait to see it! I’m so excited
Reeeealllly looking forward to this movie!
Can't wait!!!
It really looking good u know ❤❤❤
I can't wait!!!
I miss Idina's delivery. I have seen ..*ahem* legal versions of the OBC doing the show so many times. I am so used to it, it's going to be hard to adjust. Idina is very in your face and Elphaba is very unashamed, sarcastic, brash and so deeply intense. Where the new Elphaba seems a lot more calm. I'm sure i'll get used to it, it's just going to take some time.
The Wicked cast recording made me a fan of Idina a little while before Frozen. So I know how you feel!
The scene where Dorothy and friends is most likely in the second part. She was in Gregory Maguire’s book, going up the hill to visit Elphaba. I remember because Elphie already had her son and I think she tells him that his father is coming to see them (presumably the Scarecrow) when she saw the group from far away.
Liir's father was a Royal Guard in the Emerald City, not the Scarecrow. The flying monkeys were not created until after Elphaba finished her schooling and went to the Vinkus and her castle (according to the book).
Pov everyone is talking about the slippers being “book accurate” but not a single comment is talking about how the emerald city literally isn’t even green in the book 😭
I have been waiting years for Wicked to come out on film, ever since I saw this musical on stage.
I hope it’s so wicked that people will want more and MOre and MORe and MORE of it!!! 😊
I can’t stop watching this ❤
I'm so hyped!
I’M A HUGE FAN AND I CAN’T WAIT
I need to start saving $20 a month for pre-bought tickets and food for my seat!
I can not wait to see this movie, or movies!
No matter how it goes, I'm pretty sure Wicked as screen adaptation is going to be miles better than Cat's.
The fact that this is releasing on my birthday lmao!
I cant wait to see his movie!!! 😊❤🎶
This ending riff didnt sound....good?😮
I think it'll be wickedly wonderful!!! 😉
I’m so excited
Cynthia’s final notes on Defying Gravity lack when compared to most other Elphabas. It had to be said
I agree but the reality. is that Cynthia can sing better than that and can hit the notes...I don't think this is the recorded movie version but a teaser for the trailer/.
....in what world?
CAN. NOT. WAIT!
The trailer for Wicked gave me goosebumps and I'm just here for it
This is a such a good movie teaser
It's going to be wonderfully Wicked!!
The fact that this is in two parts is slightly troubling to me because y'all the show itself is two and a half hours so are we going to do an act one act two type of deal? Are we adding scenes that aren't in the show? I have so many questions and I can already tell you what they're going to do at the end, it's going to go exactly like this defying gravity beautifully sung as Cynthia flies to the air as she hits the ahhh ahh ah ah! With the huge but not abrupt stop that cuts to black and then the credits roll. I'm so nervous about this. I really hope they don't screw this up because the CGI is already giving me Cats vibes. 😬🫣
Personally I believe that Dick van Dyke would have been perfect as the Wizard
That would have been equally as surprising as who we got instead. And he still looks good for his age
Unbelievable
I wish the producers didn’t use that riff at the end. Cynthia’s talent is WAY better than that! They did her dirty. They should’ve used a cleaner riff than the one we hear from the teaser.
I’m reserving my judgement until I see the finished cut
Same. I know Cynthia is capable of doing that note as well, if not better, than Idina did. That’s probably why I expected more than her hollering.
I can’t wait to see this movie and the come back of Dorothy and the gang with what their parts will play into the story. I love the original wizard of Oz so much and have seen over a thousand times so I can’t wait to see wicked the movie musical👍
its time to defy gravity when tis movie comes out 😆😆😆😆😆

Beautiful colors and scenery? Check. Jeff Goldblum? Check. Michelle Yeoh? Check.
Cynthia Enrivo? *fangirl faints*
This trailer really makes me excited for the Wicked movie! One thing that really bugs me though is the scene when they’re at Shiz. Why is Elphaba just as shocked that she’s green as Glinda is?
Isn’t that the point where Elphaba gets angry at Glinda and rants to the other students, “no I’m not seasick. I’ve always been green. No, I didn’t eat grass as a child!” I wonder if that’s something they change in the movie. I’d be a little disappointed if they did bc that changes Elphaba’s character in a significant way.
It could be that Elphaba is being sarcastic about being green, just as some overweight people are if someone mentions their weight. It's a self-defense mechanism of sorts, even if it is somewhat hurtful for the one who has that condition. Not having seen the stage production and nothing more seen on the trailer, it's hard to tell.
I do hope they do touch upon the discrimination and “racism” from the show. And Mr. Dillamond( hope I’m spelling that right) holds a one of the major key points to the story.
But since the movie will be inspired by the musical, I have a feeling that it won’t be a “flashback” and more interesting scenes.
My ❤ will be beating if they stay loyal to the musical.
If they are faithful to the book, it should be great, even though the book wasn't quite faithful to Baum's original story.
@@jacklow9611 The musical isn't faithful to the book. The book was set in a real world where magic exists, and life can be really complicated. The musical wraps things up more neatly. The book is gritty. The musical is not, and I don't see anything gritty in that trailer.
I'm not complaining about the musical not being gritty. That wouldn't have worked (or at least it wouldn't have been so populer...LAR). A faithful film of the book would have to be a miniseries. There have been a few gritty series based in OZ.
cooool
Cool 😎
