The greatest misinterpretation of Soul Cairn I heard is that all souls trapped by Soul Gems are sent there. I'm glad that you clarified that only Black Soul Gems cause this.
Well... That makes me feel a little better. It's still very horrifying though.
All Soul Gems cause it, not just black ones. Why do you think Arvak the horse is there? Or the ghost cattle? Black Soul Gems only house sentient souls, men, mer, dragon, sload and who knows what else. Sorry, but enchanting in Elder Scrolls Universe is just as evil as Necromancy considered to be. Although Necromancy is not necessary evil. I have a Necromancer character and I don't use Soul Gems, nor Soul Trap. I only reanimate murderers and those tried to kill me, and skeletons with a lesser daedric spirit. Or murder victims to give them a chance avenging their deaths.
@@adamkurt471 Incorrect - Black Soul gem can house ANY type of soul (including black), but if you use white soul, it will drain part of your own to fully fill it up (therefore, using Black Star in Skyrim lore wise slowly but surely binds you to Soul Cairn). Arvak and ghost cattle are in Soul Cairn because someone used Black Soul gem on them (although, if it brings them some comfort, those a-holes who did it are probably in Soul Cairn as well, as I mentioned before).
As for your playstyle of "ethical necromancer", same here.

@@adamkurt471 I don't think so. While powering up soul gem similarly to black souls in black soul gems, after being used, white gem simply releases the captured soul into whatever afterlife he/she/it aimed for. Black soul gems on the other hand send soul into Soul Cairn, one of many prices (alongside using part of caster's soul to fill in if white soul was captured, and thus slowly but surely binding caster to Soul Cairn as well) to pay for its power.
Love the deep lore in games!! Just wish some was easier to sniff out. Soul Carin is HUGE

The only sliver of justice with the soul carin is the fact that necromancers, the evil ones anyway will be trapped inside for eternity when their ultimate demise finally comes due to their thirst for power. Still, its a shame that so many innocent people are suffering there.
Starve the soul Cairn and eventually the ideal Masters will lose power and the lost souls they'll be free to enter the dream sleeve
nice lore
