    lol Willow likes doing circles! She's pretty and she knows some stuff. She'll need a little tweaking with mounting, but she was definitely worth rescuing and I bet she'll have a pretty foal. 🐴❤

    It looked like Willow was thinking: "Finally, I'm going to be ridden!" She looked like she was in her element ~ built just for riding. She went from looking like a horse ready for retirement to one that was ready to conquer the world.

    She kinda reminds me of a trained endurance horse. Calm on the ground / Ready to move out under saddle. Probably not but she definitely could be with that ground eating trot.

    She did so well!! It looked like she’s been conditioned to react that way to riding, in my opinion. In the past, I’d assume that whoever owned her would go immediately into work with her after putting the saddle on and didn’t give her time to just enjoy being ridden or go at an easy, relaxed pace. Even just her mounting issue is indicative of that, like someone had zero patience and just hopped on while she was moving off and then went straight to “go.” 😅 I’ve been around plenty of horses in the past that simply didn’t have enough basic training and were nervous that acted similarly, or for instance had kids that would hop on and immediately run their horse and then hop off, causing them to react similarly (even if completely comfortable) they just became conditioned to it. She didn’t seem too nervous, so that’s good! But she definitely wasn’t comfortable, either. Probably had some negative experiences in the past. Then again, being pregnant can significantly change a horse’s demeanor, so it’s possible that it’s mellowed her out. 🤷🏼‍♀️ No matter what the case is with her training and experience, she’s beautiful and seems to have a fantastic and stable mind on her! 🩷

    Don't let her get away with that circling and walking off while you're mounting, okay? Make her stay still. Do some flexing exercises to keep her occupied the first few times. As she gets better, make it part of the routine. Get on, flex, pat, adjust your tack, whatever it is, so long as it doesn't involve walking off. Before you know it, she'll be acting like a perfect lady and standing nicely while you're mounting. She's clearly had riders in the past who inadvertently trained her to be fractious and to go, go go!, each and every time they rode her. They probably cursed her for what they trained her to do, too.
    Doing this does work. I did this with all of mine, and they all stand quietly while being mounted. It's so much more pleasurable than hopping on one foot!

    This is the first horse I've ever seen move like Chipper, my rented horse. Nice ground manners but when he was ready to go, he went fast. We'd joke he couldn't connect the word whoa with the seat action because it sounded so much like "go". All you had to do to get a canter was lean over his neck a little and quietly say "let's go" and he instantly cantered. It didn't help that visually I looked a lot like his previous owner's wife. She told me she was afraid of him. It took him more than a year to get the idea we weren't temperamentally the same person and I wasn't going to put up with his "scary" stunts.. He learned that we'd just keep doing the same thing over and over and over until he quit the behavior I didn't want. If he wanted to run away, fine: I'd point him to a tree or the wall of the arena. Funny how he'd suddenly stop before crashing into those things. After that, we were fine. He even greeted me with whinnies when I'd enter the barn.

    That looked like me getting on my Morgan/Saddlebred mare when I was in high school. She refused to stand still when I mounted. If I could get her near something I could use as a mounting block, she was fine. 🙄 I didn't know enough about horses to know I could train her to stand still.
    She was an awesome first horse, tho! 💜
    Willow is beautiful and looks like she'd be fun to ride. 😊

    She was all "What are you waiting for? What do you mean you're not in the saddle yet? There's got to be a trail around here somewhere let's goooo!" 🤣🤣 Something else I noticed is that she is holding her head really really high when you're trying to reign her in. So you may find have a bit of a firecracker on your hands when start working with her more LOL 😊
    She also seemed to be mouthing the bit the entire time. Even when you were doing your outro. I'm wondering if maybe she's used to being bitless?

    Please don’t use a bit on willow, you can tell she has had no real training but to go. Many at liberty sessions would benefit her & her self esteem. Whatever she was used for the person/s riding her did everything with the bit. It’s so sad, she doesn’t need a bigger bit, she needs some education. Trained a lot of very naughty equines in my time but she’s not naughty just dying to get out there and have some fun. Now she’s a mummy now she is going to need to be around someone with her foal just so she can learn to trust

    • @lindalape8493
      @lindalape8493 Месяц назад

      It's perfectly safe in early stages of pregnancy. She was vet checked, and I'm sure that Grace asked the vet about it first. We raised many foals, and they were able to be ridden. You just shouldn't do any hard riding or fast running.

    • @karendooks6244
      @karendooks6244 Месяц назад

      @lindalape8493 Oh so a vet says it's safe, that's alright then. Not How would you like to be forced to carry several stone in weight when you're pregnant. I personally do not agree with that practice
