Not a massively difficult mountain to climb, but still frequently underestimated by many climbers. The lack of oxygen at just over 12,000ft WILL be very apparent and causes fatigue far faster than at sea level. It can also get significantly colder and more windy on the summit than at the base of the mountain. Appropriate clothing and boots are essential for safety and comfort.

I just completed the hike a week ago and feel that I underestimated the challenge. Be prepared and take your time! Also, I recommend a mask. Near the top, wind kicks up the volcanic soot and you do not want to breathe that in.

Hey I have a question. I'm planning on going to Mount Fuji next week. Is it okay if i take my own camp and stuff all the way to the top? Also, can I put up a bonfire? I mean, are these things allowed or do I absolutely need to rent a rest house?

I climbed Mt. Fuji when I was 22 and in good shape and it was still rough. The descent isn't nearly as easy as this guy claims it is. "Just sliding right down" means basically walking sideways so you don't tumble down the mountain. Definitely a ONCE in a lifetime experience (never twice).

I climbed Mt. Fuji with my father when I was around 9 years old. We cheated a bit a took a horse (the owners walked and lead the horses while we rode) up to to top of the tree line, and then we walked. I was doing well, and we were only about one and a half stations short of the rim, when my father decreed that we turn around, because he was mentally calculating how long to get back down and drive back to our house a couple hours away from the mountain...he had promised my mother we would be home by a certain time. I recall that we pretty much ran down one of the ash slides, rather than taking the trail back down. I had a nasty ear ache at the bottom due to not equalizing the air pressure adequately. I still have my wooden walking stick that my father bought me before the climb, hot branded with the marks for the various stations. I wish I could say that I climbed all the way to the top, but having climbed most of it remains a cherished memory.

Good Vid but honestly: You can just do it straight by night without the stay in one of those overpriced cabins! We climbed last September. Get some proper tracking shoes, enough water and snacks, a flashlight and you are good to go! took us 5 hours and we were all not in the best physical condition haha. Seeing the sunrise on top of Mt. Fuji is totally worth it!

I was going to book a guide to hike Yoshida trail, but the guides were too expensive. I can only go myself. I heard it’s possible to hike up and go down in one day, but I do want to see that sunrise so I might try to book a hut. If all booked then, should I hike at night time or is that not recommended? This would be my first time hiking Mt Fuji and I have had no prior experience. I’ve hiked mountains before in higher altitudes, but I don’t know the hiking condition for Mt Fuji. Is the Yoshida trail difficult? I was told it’s one of the easier trails. Do I need any special equipment other than a raincoat and hiking boots? Just walk up slowly on the trail, should be fine? Thanks if you can inform me.

@@im_marrie I have climbed twice since then. Last year in September after hiking season. There were no huts. I went with a friend. Took about 8 hours to get to the summit. She was slower. Rested for 3 hours and then headed down to the 5th station which took us about 6 hours. The second time I went was most recently in July this year. This time, I booked a hut, because I wanted to rest enough and walk around the crater, which I didn't do last time because I was too tired. The second time it took me about 5 hours to get to the 8th station hut. Then hiked at around 4 am to the top which took maybe an hour, and about a 1-hour walk around the crater. I forgot to time myself after that when I hiked down. I think 3.5 hours? People have hiked it in a day, but I'd rather not.

As a hiker makes the climb, different stations can be visited where they can get there sticks stamped with the elevation and station number. I enjoyed this video the most during my research especially for the dope visuals and music BUT every single video on RUclips does not paint the picture accurately. It is much, MUCH better to "bullet-hike" than staying in those SUPER priced huts. Plus, the people working in them were very much assholes unlike the majority of the very nice Japanese people. The rental places and the people overseeing the mountain were pleasant and good to work with. The hike is not technical but there is a lot of scrambling involved in certain spots. I reached the 8th stations in a very good time and then it was just keeping the stamina to finish in time to reach the summit for the sunrise. Overall, so awesome to have done this mountain but some of the most important information concerning logistics is missing from the majority of videos on RUclips.
