How To Splice Barb Wire with Goldenrod 415

  • We have a trespasser on the farm! Making my rounds before turning in I discovered a bent stretch of wire in my new fence. It looks as if an adult male put their foot on the fence in an attempt to step over. When the fence wouldn’t hold their weight they left it bent. This is the side of my property where I do not trust the neighbors to keep to themselves. I have trail cams set up along that fence line and as soon as I catch them on my side the sheriff’s office will know.
    Thanks to Gary Walker ‪@WalkerFarmFam‬ & Daniel Arms ‪@ArmsFamilyHomestead‬ for all the barbed wire tips in person & on the interweb. Appreciate ya both.

    I bought my first Golden Rod about 1958, that is more than 60 years ago. The springs rusted away and I bought a copy about 20 years ago, I recently lost it. I bought a new Golden Rod from Amazon. I love it much more than the copy. I don't have to tap on the clamps, they never jamb. Mine have always been the 2 clamp type, I have never had the need for the 3point as you call it.

    I know, I’m a lil late to the party, still trying to catch up on your videos, but one thing I am seeing throughout them is how versatile a homesteader needs to be. Able to fix just about anything at anytime. Chores don’t run on a schedule. Kudos on the repair!

    Bud, this is the perfect application for a Texas Fence Fixer. This is exactly why I own one and would have made this a 5 min tightening. i have a Golden Rod for pulling new strands of barbed wire but this kind of thing is Texas Fence Fixer 101. All the best.

    Gotta know a lot about many things ranching, farming, homesteading. Been homesteading, ranching, farming for over 60 years. Thank the Lord for the internet, if you did not grow up learning fix it skills of many various types. Homesteading is 95% constant repairing things, and 5% actual homesteading. If you are not interested in learning new skills or fixing, best move on to something that will be a better wheelhouse for your skill sets. Save yourself much frustration and stress in life. Mucho Gracias

    Have used a 2 point stretcher for many decades with no problems at all. Question, have you seen or heard of ferrel type splices and crimper? Have used them for many years. Stretching the wire like you did creates a "loop" such as you had, with the crimper I would cut that wire towards the middle of that loop, slide the splice over one end then push other end into splice, crimp in 3 to 4 place on splice and be gone, about 5 minutes. Do not have to mess with extra wird.

    remember correctly can use those pliers fencing pliers on that looser wire up towards one end so it's kind of near the post and you just hook it in there and give that wire little twist to put like Lopez shape in there and that right up

    Bless you Case for checking on Dad ❤️ Chad, have you checked the animals to make sure they’re all there? Also hope you had your “fire stick” with you! That’s plain creepy that someone has stretched that wire as far from the house as possible. Do you think it may have been one of the ex residents?

    • @DossFarm
      @DossFarm  3 года назад +8

      Case always got my six o’clock 😉.
      All animals were good.
      Ex resident for sure. I’m pretty certain it happened about 30 minutes before I found it. So I made it a point to fix it knowing I was likely being watched. I’m addressing it though. I’m dealing with an individual that’s less mature than most and doesn’t understand boundaries.

    User error. You can stretch unlimited wire with this. Once you hit the limit (post) use the end clamp to secure the wire then move the ratchet back, reattach wire and crank away.

    There are ppl who always want what others have. The world today is upside down and there is no true justice for those who are victims of crime. You may be the object of someone’s anger over the trailer situation or it just maybe someone wanted to tear up something blocking their usual route through the property for whatever reason. Trail cameras that you can watch nor computer might provide the answers! Stay safe. Hugs to Case and Adler❤️

  • @PaullaWells
    @PaullaWells 3 года назад +1

    That is so uncool of whomever did that to your fence. That was done by at least two individuals. One stepped on the wire and held two strands apart while one or more crawled through the fence which would have caused the bend. Dummies. Pays off to run the fence every day. You might get some signs to randomly post on the fence line that says video surveillance or something. Might help deter the folks/kids that would be looking to up to no good.

    • @DossFarm
      @DossFarm  3 года назад +1

      Adler Farms - A holes. All they had to do was ask. Geez.

    • @DossFarm
      @DossFarm  3 года назад +1

      They were given a month before the fence went up to get a few choice logs. They never got them. Fence went up. Now they’re using my permission from over a month ago to trespass. I made it clear though. We’re all on same page now. It’s private property. I’d make the fence hot but they’ll find a way to disable it & be extra careful not to drop a log next time and I’ll never know. I littered the area with cameras. They don’t have youtube and I’m not even sure if they can read so I’m not worried about them seeing this post. They’re harmless trouble makers. I’m over it though. They’re moving on or else.

    • @PaullaWells
      @PaullaWells 3 года назад

      Adler Farms - I don’t blame you. Having cameras to prove trespass can make all the difference. There is no explanation to some people’s behavior. Let us know if we can help you in anyway.
