We loved it there! We wanted to go back this year but David cannot fly for 4 months due to the pulmonary embolisms in his lungs. We will definitely get back there soon! 🙏❤️😊
June 2019 I went on an Alaskan Cruise, I totally wore rain boots on the plane because Murphy’s law…. If you have them you wont need them, but if you don’t have them you will wish you did! I didn’t need them but was so glad I brought them and would bring them again!
Loved the video! Wish I could have seen it around 14 years ago. My one & only trip to Alaska, in which I packed like a nit-wit & nearly froze. My hubby & I flew from Houston to Fairbanks, in May, to drive our oldest son home from college for the year. 3,500 miles in a SUV to Denver. 6 days, 3 oldest children, 1 car, oh my. Now I pack better, somewhat, with your help. I love the slippers & the Eddie Bauer vest. Put them on my Amazon list with Merino wool items (already listed). Thank you for all your time & effort making these videos. They are much appreciated. God bless! P.S. forgot to say I'm going to Den this week, so I need to run by world market for snacks!
@@TheoryofSimple Absolutely unforgettable! It is also why I never go anywhere w/o snacks! Sometimes it is 250-300 miles between civilizations traveling by road in AK! So always stock up on those snacks now!
@@wanrapea I think that’s a really smart idea! Even though you don’t always need to eat, you never know when you’re going to be someplace where you cannot get access to food and water for a very long period of time. I remember traveling down to 29 Palms to see my son and out on some highway where I didn’t have any phone signal and I ended up with a car problem and had to sit there for hours till someone could come by and help me.. painful lesson to learn, but I’m so glad I had water and snacks with me and my portable fan! 😊❤️🙏
Headed home from our Alaska cruise. I did bring my merino shirts which I loved! I had a rain jacket but only wore it one day. Mild temperatures. Since it was a cruise, I did have to pack dressy items. I like the puffer jacket you showed. The one I had was a little bulky. I may invest in a new one. Great video.
Thank you so much, Lori! I’m so happy you enjoyed your Alaska cruise! It has been on my bucket list for a couple of years as well. That jacket I wore is so comfortable.🙏❤️😊
This video is so timely! We leave in 2 weeks for our Alaska cruise. I have my rain gear, boots, hiking pants and merino t shirts ready to pack. (My t shirts are Duckworth brand) I packed a wool dress (Wool& brand) to wear for dinners on the cruise. I also packed mosquito repellant just in case! Thank you for another informative video!!
Sounds like you have packed perfectly for Alaska! I think you’re going to have a wonderful time and fall in love with that place! Let me know how you enjoy it🙏❤️😊
I completely agree... I wear Merino daily. And at the REI sale this weekend, I loaded up and one of my favorites is a black lightweight Icebreaker Merino Hoodie. Aside from REI, you would love that we have the Columbia employee store nearby... and they have Prana! I think we do a fair share of our shopping there as everything is like half off! I hope you are doing well Eunice!
@TheoryofSimple Let me know when you are in Portland and we will get you a pass to the store Eunice 8-) They have Columbia gear, Prana, Mountain Hardware, and Sorel.
Thank you so much! Do you check on the weather the day before you leave just to make sure you have yourself covered for whatever situation. Even though it didn’t rain the whole day every day it was a bit chilly on our trip there.
We took a Cruise to Alaska in 2013 for my birthday, it was my 50th birthday gift. I purposely book the second cruise of the season because I wanted cool-cold weather. The same cruise the week before us even had snow. Would you believe they had record breaking heat that week!!!! All I brought with me was warm clothes, sweaters etc (which were fine at night) I had to buy a couple tee shirts on just so I didn’t roast on the days we were out exploring LOL. I hope you had a great time.
You've inspired us to take a Sitka trip! Any specific reccomendations would be immensely appreciated! Especially salmon fishing, places to stay and hikes!
I’m so happy that I inspired you to take the trip to Sitka Alaska! It’s a pretty small place, and with regard to fishing we were on a private boat that my friend owned, but there are plenty of fishing charters there. As far as hiking, there are hiking trails everywhere, but I do recommend that you buy some bear spray and carry it with you. i’ve heard that the sitka Inn is a nice place to stay, but I think there are also some nice Airbnb‘s in the area.🙏❤️😊
Started watching your videos and am really enjoying them. About same age as you, so I can relate. I was actually looking for a "carry on only" one week WINTER packing strategy for "touring" x-mas in NYC. I run COLD as it is, especially my feet! Have wide feet and can only take minimal heel. Probably best no heel at all for walking many hours, but I need to be toasty. I love this Alaska vid, but it's a bit more "wilderness" than NYC will be in December 😁
Oh my gosh, thank you so much and I’m coming out with a new video in a couple of weeks about winter travel, especially coats and things that are very versatile, so stay tuned for that! 💕😊
Lol! It was pretty cold to be “bear”in Alaska! I’m not sure if you were able to catch my Alaska trip video, but you could find that in my Travelvlog playlist on my channel🙏❤️😊
Thank you so much, Andrea! I’m glad you found a couple of great ideas from this video, These are great items to take with you wherever you travel! ❤️😊🙏
Went on Princess Cruise in '00 & '01 My Mom and I were the only ones in Glacier bay in shorts and windbreakers. It was May. We could tell who was from: say Arizona...they were dressed in ski suits completely covered, (they looked like Bibendum, the Michelin man), almost convulsing with cold and complaining. lol
Hi Eunice... Those black flat slippers looked like something I might really need. I have some issues that make me in need of very comfortable slippers and I thought I might try those so I ordered a pair. Thanks for showing them off... I hope I like them as much as you do!
Hi there, I don’t always carry one but if I’m going on a trip where I have an outfit that I need to wear that may need to be steamed out, I will carry one. Here’s the one I take with me when I travel.amzn.to/3ILlixw
Big question - how do you deal with the static caused by wool? I recently bought my first merino wool tee and was shocked -- figuratively and literally -- by the amount of static produced the first time I wore it.
Hmm. I have not had that experience.🤷♀️ perhaps one thing is that I do not use any fabric softener when I wash my clothes? Interesting question and now I am curious!
@@TheoryofSimple, TSA permits it, but a lot of airlines do not - including American, Delta, United, and Southwest. I fly American most often, so I’m out of luck. 😔
@@Summermute7 I just took a trip and I ordered pepper spray from Amazon to be delivered to my AirBnb so I had it with me during my trip. So if you really want to carry pepper spray, you have a couple of options which is to order it from Amazon or you can also buy it at Walmart if you live in United States.😊
@@TheoryofSimple , definitely a good idea! We’ve also just bought it at the location. For instance, we bought bear spray at a local sporting goods store when hiking at Glacier. Of course we had to leave it there (DEFINITELY more than four ounces! 😂), but we were happy to have it for the week! 😊
@@Summermute7 yes, you definitely do not want to be staying in Alaska without bear spray. We woke up one morning to a bear just walking around the house and we were going outside to pick berries and saw it through the window and decided just to stay in but we could very easily been outside like that and had that bear sneak up on us!🐻
