Love this video! I live in Miami and sailed to Alaska for 10-days from Seattle on Friday. I returned home a coule of days ago, I never check luggage as I pack efficiently -- global business travel is my jam and I carry those packing habits over to vacations via land or sea. I wear Barbie size clothing and pack skinny. I never momma bear pack. I let adults make smart decisions and I have no say or input on what they pack, nor do I pack for them. So I say skip the bulky clothing; go for cashmere/merino wool thermals and socks and wear your waterproof / resistance boots (my feet were never cold or wet walking on glaciers). I agree, pack sneakers as I work out every morning on top walking, hiking, dog musing, canoeing, fishing and animal watching. Because I am a spa junkie bring OKA-B sandals spa shoes are a must. My clothes I can wear from sunset to sunrise and always best dressed with our without heels. No Amazon fashons for me. There are too may other venues to shop for stylish clothing and see I do not want to see 10 other clones in my outfit on any given day. Laundry service included with our suite fare , not to mention and who packs dirty cloths in their suitcase. In the end this cruise was amazing and I over packed which I was trying to avoid coming from Miami with only a carry-on. I did not pack or need any sweaters or layers. I say quality over quantity. gave all of my purchased winter/cold weather gear purchsed (jacket, bib overal snow pants, gloves, earmuffs, hats and etc.) to one of vocalist-enterainers who wore my size as I would have no need for this stuff in Miami. I typically pack clothing I have not intentions on bringing home so my return trip is lighter. I began tracking the weather begining two weeks b4 and it was mild 50-60's with light percipation on the Alaskan Islands -- Seattle was 85F degrees upon on our arrival for sailing two days prior and 2 days before and after so we enjoyed a wonderul stay.
This is one of the most realistic videos I've watched! I wish I was a 1 suitcase gal, but nope. Haha! It was helpful to actually see the clothing items you brought instead of hearing about or reading a list. Thanks for sharing!
tHANKS FOR THE TIP ABOUT THE SLIPPERS! I had bought the sock ones for this cruise but we have a balcony so now I will bring my indoor/outdoor slippers that i already have.
I'm going on my first Alaska cruise tomorrow. This video is so helpful. Wish I watched this sooner so I can order these sooner. I love the 3 in 1 jacket & the snow boots
I'm also an overpacker because my thought is better to have it ànd not need it instead of looking around for it.. lol and I'm a dude. Im teying to juat bring one check in bag and one backpack and that's IT! I enjoyed your video as backround noise and helpful info while i amazon shopped for my alaska cruise in a couple of weeks! 😅
Rule #1 take 25% of what you think you'll need. Unless you're Kim Kardashian, you don't need 3 outfits a day. The ship is big enough that no one is paying attention to what you wear anyway. Rule #2 Pack for the region. If you're going to Alaska, pack a hat, gloves, warm waterproof jacket and waterproof hiking shoes. An umbrella couldn't hurt. Everything else? Pack layers. T-shirts, sweaters or sweatshirts and a warm sweater. Jeans, leggings or pants of choice, but at least one pair of fleece lined pants for the cold. Rule #3 For evenings - 2 pairs of dress pants and 2 dressy tops or a dress. 1 pair of nice sandals. Unless you have assigned seating in the dining room no one will notice you playing mix and match. With some judicious packing you can probably get it all in a carry on.
My husband is pretty much a tee shirt and shorts guy. Thirty degrees Celsius in Italy? Tee shirt and shorts. Minus fifteen in Canada? Tee shirt and shorts. I must say his travel packing is easy. 😊
You’re welcome. Glad it helped. What I was reminded on our 2nd trip last month was to make SURE and check port weather just before you leave. We were 75 and sunny 3 days! Wish I had more tshirts. 😂
I understand your indecision about how cold could it be on a late in the season Alaskan cruise. We did our Alaskan cruise late September, it was cold and raining but if you have the right clothing it makes it more enjoyable, otherwise you remember how cold and wet you were. After 20 years of cruising, I have learnt to check if there is a way to wash clothing or have it washed so it reduces down the excess clothing, that said, I still could take less. Having lived my 60+ years in So. California, my winter coat is a hoodie or fleece jacket, so I have not packed well for Norway in February or Iceland in the beginning of June, mostly overpacked.
😂On top of the weather unknowns, I’m generally a mood dresser, which is not a good characteristic for light packing. 😆 For our AK trip last month, I wish I’d taken tshirts because it was 75 and sunny! You really never know until you get there. 🤷♀️
I have just completed my list for 7 days on NCL in New England and Canada in September. 4 pairs of pants - different weights, 9 shirts, 2 lightweight cardigans, 1 fleece, 1 raincoat, 1 pair of lace up sneakers, 1 pair black slide on shoes, 1 pair of hiking sandals, 1 pair of dressy sandals. I hope it will all go in my carryon.
Good for you I only travel with a backpack and carry on, eat specialty dining every night with heels, packed boots, sneakers for working out and OKA-Bs for the spa.. Overpacking is just outdated and it is just not that serious. I just returned last week from an Alaskan cruise NCL and most people we dresses three steps from homeless😆. Certainly, I am exaggerating just a little bit; Honestly, most folks were saturday laundry, running errandss casual. Sensible not Sexy 🤣 I totally get Mrs. Wagner is fashion forward Which ship did you sail on and which ports did you visit?
Thanks for great video. I will cruise in October 2024 for 9 days with 🧳carry-on and personal item 👜 only. Why October - only 4 rainy days in average in October and I don't bother about cold temperatures. Sometimes I really do miss cold temperatures and it might be hard to understand for people, but I do (btw we moved from Europe down to French-Polynesia). I do most of my travelling (7 to 18 days) with carry-on and personal item. And I have nearly always international flight to LAX and now in October I have even a short time frame for connecting domestic flight to Seattle. I've already made "test packing" (I'm a bit of "over-planning person" 😂and was worrying about packing for Alaska), whether carry-on works for 9 day cruise (and 2 days Seattle before) and it does. I was just rembering cold days in Europe (home or vaccation) - what did I wear: 🤔Three different outfits for each day a week - staying inside casual (breakfast, lunch), being outside for sports, dinner time🤔. Nope, it was simply all about different combination of clothes and wearing them twice or even several times. So, why should I change it for an Alaska cruise - so do it with carry-on. When travelling to Seattle I will wear bulky stuff, like puffer jacket and fleece sweater (thin longsleeve T-Shirt and top underneath) and my normal sport shoes (work also great for normal hiking, there is no climbing mountains on cruise). And my beloved warm and cosy cardigan - hand-knitted by my granny - will go into a pillow cover to have an additional nice sleep item for flight (fits easily between handles of carry-on). I do not pack additional "just in case use" clothing - for what I think, is main thing of a lot of peoples overpacking. Btw I'm lucky - due to my loyalty status I have free laundry on ship 🤩, but on my last cruises I did not even used it. And I do not use packing cubes due to weight limits for carry-on - I only use zip-log plastic bag for underwear. Note: In nearly every carry-on (light weight case) there is a in-built compression bag - that's the side with the cover having a zipper. Check it out - put in stuff there, press it down, put over cover and close zipper - it works. Even it's still blowing, you can press it with other side of case. That's it. And overall there is a nice side effect of Alaska cruising in October: It's much cheaper and less crowded than in peak season. Happy cruising and greetings from Moorea (sister island of Tahiti) in French-Polynesia 🌴 🏖 😎 🇵🇫 🇫🇷 🇪🇺
You’re welcome!! Make SURE you check the weather forecast for your ports! We just returned from our 2nd trip to Alaska three weeks ago, and most of the days were sunny and 75. Wish I had taken more tshirts. 😂 Have a great cruise!
1st time viewer; great video! QUESTION Did you size up on the puffer coat to allow for layers? What is your Wick-away tops made of? Thank you. We are going to Alaska next May (2025) for our 50th wedding anniversary & my 69th birthday. I don’t want to over pack, but I think the Water Resistant pant and a rain jacket will be needed at that time of year. We are doing a Land Tour/ Cruise. I can’t wait!!!
I did size up, but really don’t think I needed it. The wick-away shirts are polyester/spandex. It’s so difficult for me not to overpack. 😂 The compression bags were really helpful. Have an amazing anniversary cruise!!🚢 ❤️
That is a lot to manage for a 7 day cruise! I am curious about two things. 1) what item do you wish you had brought? 2) what size luggage did you bring? We will be going on a 18 day CruiseTour to Alaska and are limited to 50 lbs per person for the first 7 days of the trip due to the flights in the Yukon.
Oh my! 18 days. What a great cruise you’ll have, I’m sure! 1) This past AK cruise (last week), I wish I’d taken some tshirts. 🙄 It was 75 and sunny!! Good repeat lesson about checking the weather forecast!! 2) We take a large Samsonite and a large and medium Level 8. We also use compression bags. The luggage weight game is like a jenga puzzle. You have to spread out your heaviest items among your bags. 👍🏼
@@AllThingsWagner I hear you! We are taking a 28” and 24” checked bags and a 21” carryon for the two of us. I have been watching the weather daily it seems.
Very interesting, however, all those clothes would boggle my mind! Nice to have SOME choices, just not your whole closet. ..also, you can choose your clothing the wsy you chose that clear shoe. Make a few outfits by mix and matching. 😊
I’m doing an October repositioning cruise Alaska to Hawaii and packing will be a nightmare 4 days Alaska 5 sea days 4 Hawaii, any help will be welcome. This Vedic was awesome by the way! 38:11
Thanks for watching! Wow, what an itinerary. I think searching online for “capsule outfits” might be helpful. Those use the same clothing items to create several different outfits. You can then use the warm weather items for layering once your temps start cooling. Have an awesome cruise!
Great video! Very helpful! The link to the 3 in 1 jacket isn't working right. Can you repost it? I'm looking for a jacket for our cruise to Alaka in August. Thank you so much!
Can you tell me which cruise line you took? We’re going on a Disney cruise in less than a month. Just wondering if the temperatures on the ship are any similar if you;re in another cruise line. You mentioned it’s warm in the ship and people are walking around in shorts.
Royal Caribbean. I’m sure the cruise lines are about the same. Layers even on board are good so that you can add them when you go out onto the deck and shed them when you go back inside. 👍🏼
I'm from Texas also and I can agree with you on it not getting cold here. I am leaving for Alaska on Quantum of the Seas in about 2 weeks. This will be my 3rd time going to Alaska and I take flannel shirts, skinny jeans, and Uggs. I don't take as much as you did though but I understand you gotta have options. Love your packing ideas!
holy smokes, you brought a ton of clothes for only a 7 day cruise.
😂I’m a chronic overpacker. Thank the Lord for compression bags. 🤣
She must have changed clothes three times a day. Lol… jealous me
I appreciate your drawing attention to the climate you are from.
This was so incredibly helpful. You gave some tips that no other video I watched gave. Thanks 😊

Thank you so much for this informative video. My Alaska cruise is June 2024.
