What really caps off an already good video is how you end it by telling us that no matter where we are we should always be aware of what light is doing in a scene. Thanks.
I love your graspable explanations, and your up-beat attitude, filled with excitement and enthusiasm speaking about photography (the sciences of it). Love the way how you get into the depth by demonstrating such a great presentation to show the verses between these 2 lightings. It is just what I was looking for.
This was the most helpful video ive seen on demonstrating light sources. I can honestly say Ive come from this video feeling a bit more comfortable with experimenting with light sources.
Thanks so much for your help in understanding some photo-speak! I have done photography for years, but prefer natural light. I've had clients ask for studio shots and have been overwhelmed learning about lighting. You helped simplify!
Wow just in few minutes, I can able to get a better understanding of the lighting. Though I am not into photography and in-fact I am totally in a different field of work. You explanation will definitely will be very useful for those who like to learn the concept. Thanks a lot for the video.
Awesome! Great explanation for a beginner graphics programmer. Just simply put and easy to understand. Thanks a million! I have to look for other sources of explanation because books sometimes are not straightforward.
Well done Tony another great learning video for all us amateur photographer's you do a great job of explaining how it all works thanks again and hopefully you will have another one for us very soon
This is my first time tuning into your channel and I must say, I really just enjoy the warm tone of your voice 🙊 It's so pleasant to listen to, and of course, all of the information you are sharing is so helpful and wonderful! Consider me a fan 😊
Not really trying to study photography, but cinematography. I just bought a really cheap lighting from lowes, and bought a couple yards of white fabric from wal-mart to study and make my lighting a little better for my video. I have a really nice Panasonic Lumix Lx7 camera that shoots 1080p at 28Mbps with a 1/1.7" Sensor.. I know it's not the most expensive camera, but it's got a aperture ring on it etc. etc. I can adjust the brightness on the fly when shooting video etc. I got some 23watt (100watt equiv.) bulbs, and just trying to learn as much as possible about hard light & soft light, diffusing, reflecting light. Nice video, still think I need to learn a little more though, your video was really nice and you talked about some really specific things that I really enjoyed hearing about and learning. Thanx (+1 : 588)
Superb video man! There's a many complicated ways to teach this and your explanation was absolutely wonderful and clean! Congrats!! I'm subscribed a long time and your vids are really great!! Keep it up, cheers from Brazil.
Great video Tony, awesome tips I sometimes struggle with outdoor light when the sun is blaring down casting harsh shadows and I dont have assistant to hold diffusers and reflectors
good explanation n easy to understand .As a beginner photographer am learning all my skills from you tube like you.Whats the blue print to getting good portrait pictures indoor. Is it trial and error until you are happy .How do you position your umbrellas ,speed lites for good effects???
Been looking for this for a while-- a wonderful no-nonsense explanation of lighting basics. Hopefully I can apply these principles successfully to my next vid. Thanks!
I think this video is what you're looking for: 5 Minute Portrait Lighting Tutorial: How to Use the Main, Fill, Hair, Background, and Kicker Lights There's a ton more info in Chapter 6 of Stunning Digital Photography (links in the description).
Hi there Tony I have been watching a lot of your tutorials on RUclips and have learned stacks from you, thank you so much. I do have a couple of questions that I hope you could answer. both questions are based on the Yongnuo 565ex flash. The first question is, if you need to use the flash as a AF meter only by disabling the Flash Fire option, can one still use external flashes and if so how will they be triggered if the hot shoe is disabled? my second question is, when my 565EX is mounted to my 50D, I am unable to change settings like disable strobe pulse (modeling light) and a few other settings in the custom flash settings menu. Is the flash not compatible to allow changes of the settings or am I doing something wrong? Keep up the great work, regards Peter Scott from Cape Town, South Africa
Hi Tony When uou buy the book, are the dvd's included. Or are they apart.or are they send byj a link? I would like to have the book and the digital lessons? Hoe to do that, purchase them? Henk from the Netherlands Ps i love your and chrelseas tutorials
Not a directly photography question, but I wonder. I do jigsaw puzzles somewhat regularily, in a room with three spotlights (led) in the ceiling pointing out from the same location, a 3 in 1 spot light solution. My problem is that jigsaw puzzle pieces can be glossy and you get reflections of the spotlights in the ceiling. So I was thinking of hanging a diffuser to the celing, a bit lower that the spotlights which would be behind / above the diffuser. Would that reduce or eliminate the glossy reflection of the spotlight from my glozzy jigsaw puzzle pieces?
Hello Tony love ur videos and how u guide thru.... need your help. I was shooting pics under a tent in harsh sunlight. I tried to use all possible settings i could. my exposure was fine as per the meter. But the pics came out dark. real dark skin tones. While framing the pic harsh sunlight killed most of my pics as i was taking pics in the tent. So my pic would have the subject really dark in the center and side would be real bright due to the harsh sun.....Please please advice
