Thomas Pridgen is renowned for his explosive and technically precise style. @@DesignRhythm I've been playing with socks since I saw Grant Hart--couldn't go barefoot because my foot got cut up on the pedal ... Also, it's gross. Anyway, try different types of socks--some might be more stable than others.

Saw Thomas back in the day with them, he was certainly a force of nature.. but I think TMV needs Theodore back more, he was their pulse. Love both of them though, just my opinion. Damn shame -TMV were my favorite for many years.

Yeah I saw them at the greek theatre Berkeley CA 2004, one of my goat favorite shows. They were all in on the same groove. Electric. 🤙
@@DesignRhythm I saw TMV at the Greek in Los Angeles in 2004, lol. It was a great show, but I was a teenager, so I kind of missed out on some of the magic. I didn't have the perspective I have today, I was stoned the whole time. I hung around for a bit with TMV when Pridgen recorded and toured for Bedlam and Goliath, but the magic was gone.
This performance is astounding, and IMO, it shows how much Pridgen rules. He has great fluidity, great orchestration and expression, and he has the precision of a machine.
The dynamic of the band counts for a lot. The wrong fit, the wrong dynamic, and your talents go wasted. But get in with the right group, and you can surge past your own skill ceiling.

@@vashkarvashkar4051 The kicks here and there that are part of the melody, it stays during the whole song, not that easy, the time signature is "nothing" here, te kicks inside the melody are in some unusual places if I can say.
Drummers used to be the dummies of every band. Now, they're the genius. If ya'll knew how fun it is to play like this . . . you'd switch to drumming.

Wow! Pridgen and the Bass player, (I apologize I should know his name) are so unbelievably locked in, it gives the other guys a palate to solo over. I dont think they EVER played the ONE! was this 5/4 or in 7? I will listen again and try to count....Its so go$damn fu%king sad to me that Jazz is slowly dieing, when I hear such fantastic YOUNG LIONS like this playing so well it gives me hope...It gives me hope...PEOPLE, support your favorite musicians! Buy their music directly from them! Buy their merch! Buy tickets to their shows! Just email them and send them 10 bucks! 7 8, the kicks sometimes land on 2 or 3 (or even on the 7 before the one) but it's all 7 8 as far as I can tell.
Most likely at least - there might very well be some odd bars thrown in there, i did not sit and count through the whole preformance... yet.

Incredible musicianship as always, but not a big fan of the song - kind of all over the place. I thought we had a Bitches Brew thing going at 1st...
The first 3 minutes i was really surprised at the seemingly mature approach Thomas was taking to the music. But then as usual he takes off walking all over everyone’s solo’s instead of waiting his turn. He is an great drummer but has still yet to learn how to be a musician. By the end i’m begging for the drums to shut up so i can pay attention to the other players. I’ll take Dave Disenso 11 of 10 times. JMHOP. Tasty chops though.
Agreed also not great dynamics. Glad to see one person in the comments knows jazz. He's a incredible drummer for hard hitting aggressive fusion style.

@@THEREALQYUit truly doesn’t matter if it’s his band or not dude lol look up Mark Kelso & The Jazz Exiles for example, Mark’s band but he never overplays or outshines the other players. Being a drummer means you need to be disciplined, you need to know when to stay in the pocket and let other musicians shine, there’s always gonna be a time for Thomas to have his moments, but that’s not every single minute of the song. He’s a fantastic drummer but it all sounds a bit scattered at points throughout the tune. I just think he needs to scale it back once in awhile.

He's grown up. But still has to much energy for this band. And quite frankly they are not playing anything special. Good musicians no doubt. But I not really digging the piano player. That Rhoads "sound" and the chords purely chordal approach. Not a fan. But good to see Thomas Playing something other than gospel or rock. Keep growing. But my guy from Sleep Token absolute killer.
