Guiliana is the only drummer I know who can explode in endless cascades while leaving each single note intact and any groove unharmed. What control & creativity....very inspiring, never boring...
a human drum machine :) the accuracy is insane!
You have a way with words... Great description of MG.
@@murkymurk8305 Thx ;)...here's another one who is able to do this but from a very different style of drumming ruclips.net/video/_nN61nW1Ly0/видео.html
@@murkymurk8305 well said and groove unharmed....
the only drummer that can convince you of rhythm adding an entire new dimension to music
the live version is sooooooo much better than the actual recordings….. just saying
T Bates
hell yeah! Hungry Ghosts is awesome in its own way record wise, but Live is definitely otherworldly. Nige, is lacking on the record, where as Live, it obviously fucking kills.
Live, live, (live), now we're gonna have to start differentiating between hearing the live recording or seeing them perform live haha, speaking of which, I'm gonna see if they've got any shows lined up...
isn't it always like that with jazz-related music?
That's like comparing apples and oranges. Both are great.
Usually is the case with jazz.
Mark's entry at 0:35 was pure art.
Man, absolutely! Like a transformer kind of machine just warming up
I love that fact that in 6:47 they both basically switch from acoustic to electronic and viceversa. Pure genius.
Exactly.........I'm speechless
I think he switched from electronic to a decay piano which is acoustic...the opposite
@@mengtianzhou1221 how do you mean? he said it. Guiliana went from real drum set to electronic drum pad, and Mehldau went from keyboards to piano.
cannot stop coming back to this
Mehldau fan for life 😭🙌🏿
7/4 is the new 4/4
😁❤️
Yes.
The keyboard master race draws another sick bass line out of the ether
this is what happens when one keyboard and one drum kit isn't enough for your incredible minds composition, and they are not toying with them, they are cementing their mastery for the next generation to strive towards... it's almost as if they are not here spiritually, but merely physically; what a performance!
Beeeeeefy groove 😎
brad is the man who can clearly show people the deepest and most beautiful thing inside his subconsciousness through music.
You would think... more people out there would be deeply touched by these tunes. One would think? Love it...
geeezzuss... what to do when you have mastered harmony, rhythmic and melodic development, and when you can control 3 independant parts at once, and do it all live, in front of a packed house? brad, keep doing it ! amazing. so inspiring.
That bassline at 3:52 is so goddamn fire. I cannot stop coming back to this video.
Insane. How didn't I find this sooner
superb
So, I just clicked on this by mistake. What a fortuitous accident though, this is bangin'.
Mehldau is just amazing at switching in and out of all the different sub-genres.
7:10 "Radiohead" feeling, so much I can hear Tom Yorke, Bjork & Nick Drake crying all together for all the suffering humanity...
l'impression de ne jamais écouter le même titre a chaque fois
best new music I've heard in years.
***** same here. incredible man
The piano solo at the end gives me life.
that fucking bassline!
painting to this
Did you finish the painting?
Would love to see what came out :)
Reminds me of Emerson Lake and Palmer! Perfect!
groove level: INSANE
GOLDEN @2:43 when Mark lays into the bell. That gets Brad's head groovin'...!
Pure Genius...
and the counterpoint at four minutes is superb
Sounds like the soundtrack to the city Berlin. Solid!
I was like, "I wonder who played drums on the new David Bowie album?" Then I discovered it was Mark Guiliana and I was like, "Well of course it is. Who else could it be but the sickest drummer out there?"
+Matthew Winne He is amazing. On his way to the status of Chris Dave.
+JeffreyMulac8 already past it.
+Matthew Winne Do you have the title of the album?
+Milad Khosseini Taming the Dragon
***** yes, I have it at home. I meant David Bowie album. Which one do you mean ?
Here we go...spirited romp, indeed! Thank you for the post!
The slow down mid way through is unbelievable. 80's-ish Vampiric Electro Hop
ווואו! זה מטורף!!!😮😮😮❤
I don't invoke the use of religious imagery lightly or often but those people in that room this night were truly blessed!
WOW.... the keyboardist~LEFT and RIGHT~ hands play so BEAUTIFULLY together. And on top of all that He's playing three keyboards at once. Also the way the Drummer has control of the pulse with his flawless timing is amazing.
This goes crazy
I cannot stop listening to this release! I've had this on my iPod (lossless) now and listen to it almost every day for the last few months.... brilliant work gents
i ride my bike with this album on and it does not get boring. Just slides right in.
Pablo Trobo
exactly!
still a gret display of power playing by a duo
i love you , mark giuliana
These two play so well together.
when i found thius it was a real boost to my awareness of musical innovation at a cutting edge of interaction with drum and keyboard i dont here much musical innovation nowadays but this is at the forefront of musical exploration so i want to share it with you all
Everybody talking about brad's left arm, but hot damn marks left foot is getting some work in. That's six minutes of non stop 8th notes, I would be sore as hell after that.
This music is just amazing! two awe-inspiring musicians making some of the most creative and brilliant music together, why is this not on the radio?
Paincakess Because people suck and they wouldn't appreciate it.
Paincakess Just reached this through Jazz FM 91.1 Toronto
+Paincakess 90.3 KEXP Seattle.
I think this is the new era of jazz because I'm starting to see Robert Glasper work and Brad doing this kinda stuff. It's so refreshing !
Especially from 8:00 on it is simply sublime. Evokes Jarrett's legendary Koln concert from 1972 but with a surreal techno edge.
from the first second on it's sublime
Brad has said that he likes Jarrett but doesn't consider him an influence as much as a source of inspiration for what he can do technically on the piano. Also, Brad tends to arrange some of these solo piano adventures to some extent. If you want to hear what I mean, check out his various recordings of Countdown (some bootleg on RUclips) and listen to the opening cadenza he does.
Beastly and godly
These two are joined at the hip and cranium !
This is from another world
This is freaking inspiring
My two favourite jazz musicians in the world makes a prog jazz album with pads and moog synths? Yes please.
heard these on a car radio yesterday can't get them out my head, anyone else experiencing this?
Please make a live version of this album!!
none more sick than this!!
Mark is just so insane
Damnn so fire man
Even better than the album version. The whole additional downtempo part, starting around 6:00 is absolutely breathtaking. Masterful.
reel genie !!!!! love love love peace
Dos musicos con la dicha de transportar al publico
Out there standing!
es perfecto!
Makes me nostalgic for the great Zawinul.
Yes sir...As soon as I heard the first chord...definitely Joe Zawinul's influence...sounded like Joe and either Omar Hakim or Pete Erskine...Weather Report 2.0!

Oh, my...!Hearing this is like plugin yourself in a 2000V outlet!! Pure energy!!
This is straight dope. Real fusion will never die. Beautifully executed and beautifully shot.
lloré... wow...
Wow, nice music, nice concept and nicer drumming. Hands down from Spain to you Mark Guiliana. Keep pushing boundaries and inspiring drummers from all around the world!
Brad's left hand just never stops
I've been listening to this track for a while and I could never figure out how mark got so many sounds out of the kit but after watching the video I realize now that he's play eighth notes with his foot on the hi-hat and basically soloing over the kit the whole song...
+Mrmisterdonut You are right! but he isn't soloing, he is blending exquisitely with the rhythmic landscape that the bass line creates.
best find this year
this shit is FIRE! mark and brad are unreal!
Questa è una meraviglia musicale...! fantastica
woooow big trip!
music of the century
a new world of keybord-drum duo, never before
I never want this to stop.
THIS IS SO SIIIIIIIICK!!!!! MORE OF THIS!!!! MORE OF THIS!!!!!!!!! PLEASE RELEASE A LIVE ALBUM!!!! (e.g. the show you did at the SF Jazz Center on April 27, 2013!!)
I came to this thinking it would be disappointing, but does Brad ever disappoint? Masterful. Love it!
I love that no one has disliked this. A plethora of tasteful listeners on youtube? Seems almost unreal. Rock on, guys. Oh yeah and this in f'ing awesome.

Good evening
I love seeing such great players experiment with electonics and synths.
Eine sehr schöne Geschichte.

Wooooow, énormous! i don't have the words!!!
Listening to this piece with headphones - gave me the chills. So good.
there are so much emotions in here
Even listening on the built in speakers on a Chromebook the quality of the playing and nuance is clear. Great balance between electronic and acoustic instruments is rare.
I agree with Remy. I love the courage ~ and I also FEEL this one
amazing!
Of course it's in 7!
