Check out arvika bike racks (regular bikes and fat bikes) for towable RVs. Mounts above the propane tanks, easy to use (rail system), locks, and can hold 3 adult bikes. 4 depending on the slope of your RV cap profile. Won't see it listed many places but it's been a life saver, letting me take the kayaks on the truck and still keep storage in the truck bed.

The only problem with the roof racks when not hauling the trailer behind you is when you forget the bike is on top of your car/truck and you try to park or drive into something with a 10 ft clearance. 😮. I did this 15 years ago with a bike on top of my car and I was traveling across county for a move and visited a friend and went to park in their spot under a carport when I heard a noise and quickly stopped. Luckily I didn’t damage my roof or the car port but I did a little damage to my bike.

We have a Lectric XP 3.0 and a Lectric Trike, we put them in the back of the truck bed which we have a canopy. Helps keep them safe and secure as well staying dry.

We've got a front hitch with a 4 bike rack that we put into it. We've got about 20k miles using it. The only problems we've had have been a bit of scraping on very steep driveways, and because of the extra length it can make backing into sites a bit harder, we've actually taken the rack off a few times to fit into really tight spots.

Great video! It’s amazing all the options that exist. We ended up with a front hitch on our truck and have been happy with it. We have a discrete hitch receiver that is mounted relatively high up, so we did need a drop receiver for visibility which puts the bikes even more out in front 😂

5th wheel there is another way. Mount a receiver hitch on top of the pin box--I had it made and it bolts on using the 4 King pin bolts, so it is totally independent of the pin box --then simply slide in your bike rack. I do have photos however I can't see how to attach them--ask if you want

For travel trailers how about mounting a front axle clip on a board on a dinette seat with table dropped? Take the front tire off and set it on the table with the front locked to the clip up to 2 bikes carried out of the weather and very secure. Also quite inexpensive.

A little modification to a second hand four place heavy duty bike carrier and in a receiver hitch on the front of my Class C is where my XP Trike rides . Pulling the seat and battery takes some weight off to load it and then fold down the handlebars and vision is not obstructed . But I can still see it to know where it is in front of me .I'm old and decrepit so I also designed and my son helped fabricate a powered lift (electric tongue jack) motorcycle carrier mounted to a heavy duty new rear bumper . Motorcycle rolls on at about two inches above ground level . FB Marketplace , Harbor Freight and my local metal supplier , front and rear combined are under $650.00 total . Old age physical limitations and a fixed income can make one get creative !🤔

2021 Winnebago Micro Minnie 2108TB. We had a 2” receiver welded to the frame under our bumper, rated at 350lbs. We were out of warranty. Added a 1UpUSA Super Duty two bike rack, which is RV rated, to carry our two ebikes. Works perfectly.

I have a foldable ebike ( Hey bike). I believe that without the battery, it is 60 ish pounds. I put it in a bin in the back of my truck. It's a workout to put it in and out. I like the track you pictured to roll yours into the bed of your truck. I also can't put a storage basket on it, because it wouldn't fold up properly.

We can fit our two Brompton folding bikes (one is electric) in our Grech Strada Ion Tour inside the coach behind the rear seat and still have room for our Snow Peak grill, tool box and additional storage bag. We removed the headrests of the rear seat and can even put the bed flat without removing the bikes or other gear.

1UP also certifies their racks for the rear of travel trailers. We have the Super Duty Double for our two Gazelle electric bikes.
And for what it’s worth, Oliver Travel Trailer’s optional factory installed bike mount (not rack, but huge crossbar with 2” receiver) is attached directly to the heavy duty frame, and is warranted for use up to 150 pounds. Ours with the 1UP has about 7000 miles on it and is rock solid.
Thanks for a thorough, informative video!

That was very good info for people. Ok I got home made tow hauler. Since people asked. I have had A Motorhome hauled scooters on back with motorcycle rack. This would haul those fat tire E-Bikes. I added center up piece to rack. I Had < yeah > have 4 horse trailer but never haul but 2 horse. Those will clean up really well and they are tow hauler. Back to what I do I use. The rack that goes in pickup hitch. I fixed it to fit inside tow hauler. 4X6 piece cut two slots drilled hole on each side of bike rack and screw rack to 4x6. The part that fits in receiver hitch goes to u-bolt. Of course you had drill holes in floor and if use lock nuts the u-bolt will not come off. Suppose tighten nuts after rack is installed. Just stomp it down. I got 2 wood screws that holds 4x6 to floor. You got take to metal screws out rack to use rack on back pickup. On 1 night stop I loosen top of bike rack and lean bikes against the back door. Bed is right there. About swinging arm. I bought add-on rated for 500lbs. I Would make sure it doesn't swing down hill. You may have to take those fat E-Bikes off there to get it to swing back up hill. We have regular E-Bikes and I don't like swinging it open with them on there either. I mounted my spare tire to the outside of back door. Got rack in front for that generator but that is not what is on it. Now if you got rack you better add extension to your receiver hitch if drive F-150. I had rent one and it could hit tailgate. Oh that was close and SURE watched out. Front pickup never would, people put dirt bikes too.

Got most of them Jason... We have a Class A and our ebike rack is on the toad (Jeep
Gladiator). Even though our rack and receiver are rated within our load, I add straps from the bed cargo hooks over the tailgate to the rack. It takes away all that leverage and momentum of up and down and also limits the wiggle of side to side. With our bikes attached and the straps tightened, I can grab the bikes and wiggle the whole truck with no slop.
We previously used a receiver riser on the coach and the bikes rode above and in front of the toad. I didn't like the possibility of a turning strike and the up and down leverage on the coach receiver.
I have seen more and more use of disability cart racks used for folding ebikes. This also provides a built in ramp for loading and have the weight ratings needed.

I went with the Stromberg Bike Bunk and am very happy with it! I was lucky that my Curt hitch wasn't in the way since that is attached to the A-Frame as well, but it worked out perfectly. I was able to use the bike rack we already had, and the propane tanks are easily accessible once the bikes and rack were removed.

Great overview! I think as others noted, some travel trailers have frame mounted hitch receivers. Our Cougar Half-Ton does. We carry our e-bike and regular bike on a Hollywood rack there. Also, what is the deal with full-time RVers tending to get the biggest, bulkiest, heaviest e-bikes possible to travel with? 😂 There are e-bikes that are built more like normal bicycles and are thus not so heavy to carry or load. Sounds like you are arriving at that conclusion, too. Best of luck and thanks for all the tips.

For almost 20 years we had travel trailers and hauled the bikes in the back of the truck. For the last two years we have had a fifth wheel and have not taken our bikes yet. We shied away from mounting bike racks and e-bikes to the back of a 25’ trailer as we were very concerned that adding that much weight to the back would contribute to sway, depending on your tow vehicle, especially if you are already on the edge. A sturdy rack could weigh 30lbs, a receiver 10lbs, and two e-bikes at 80lbs adds a minimum of 200lbs to the rear of the trailer. Any fancy swing out racks or ones that lower those heavy bikes will only increase this weight. Any comments about this?

    • @RVMiles
      @RVMiles  Месяц назад

Absolutely a concern. The more weight to the rear of the trailer, the worse the sway.

Being and old retired guy (not having any youngerns to carry) I fold my Lectrics and put them on the back seat area of my truck. Nice to have them secured inside where there pretty much not visible and out of the weather. On that point, I was under the impression that it was a good idea not to have them out in the rain. Is it different for your brand?

I have a Class B. 2 issues with a hitch receiver mounted bike, covering the license plate and affecting the departure angle. I went with a Prime Design ladder mounted to the door and a cheap ladder bike mount placing the bike vertical. I strap the bike very strongly to the mount and the ladder.
Link to video about the setup, although I flipped the bike in practice to avoid covering the license plate- ruclips.net/video/vcphZbgXaC0/видео.htmlsi=7sXqY00D3Qczu0cw

We have 2 Lectric bikes and a 42' 5th Wheel. We use the Hyperax Volt RV Rated hitch mount. It was one of a very few that is 5th wheel rated. It has been working great for the past almost 2 years and around 20k miles. We check it at every stop along the way and it has been tight every time. We cover them with the Team Obsidian 3 bike cover. We have had to repair the cover a couple of times though. We did have to move the License plate to the ladder for it to be seen but our lights are can be seen around it.
