It appears that New Mexico doesn’t want campers. Last year we went to a state campground where we were informed that we needed to reserve a spot online. When we attempted to reserve a site in the empty campground, we were told that all sites were reserved. There was nobody there, but all sites were taken. Will avoid this state in the future.
That's an ongoing issue in both the U.S. and Canada. People reserve them on dates they aren't even sure they can/want to use them resulting in empty campgrounds that are "full." There needs to be a 24 hour "no show" policy. If you haven't checked in within 24 hours of the first date on the reservation, you lose it and it's back on the menu. With a cancellation fee charged too.
@@ScubaSteveCanadaMy guess is they don't care if the spaces are actually occupied or not, so long as they are still collecting fees from the reservation. If anything, they'd be happier if the space stays unfilled...less maintenance; upkeep; trash; etc.
@@billbillinger2491 Exactly! You nailed it. That is exactly what's happening.
At $61 a night for an Oregon state campground, I'll stay at a KOA
We love our Brinkley, but I did realize going into it that being a new company there were liable to be growing pains. I will say that their customer service has been excellent.
So was Grand Design in the past. Then it all fell apart. Literally. I have been there done that.
I agree! They have been amazing and I feel like they are getting better and better everyday. They have gone over and above our expectations.
We appreciate your sacrifice to the weather Gods to bring us this report.
I thought the whole concept of the Park system (National, State, County, City) was to be equally accessible to all citizens of this country? They are all subsidized by tax dollars after all. These high prices prevent low income people/families from enjoying the parks that their taxes help fund. I'm still having a hard time accepting paying a day use fee on top of the camping fees. I remember when this wasn't the case.
Completely agree. ‘They’ the government, are all talk- equal rights etc. Blue states especially, and they are the ones continuing to create the great divide- rich/poor.
All Brinkley Owners: Brinkley Crew posted VIN numbers in the FB Owners Group yesterday at 12:30CST.
I can't fathom what gives some people the idea that extreme heat can't hurt them. It doesn't matter how fit you are, or how tolerant you think you are, our bodies are not designed for that kind of weather. The result being another removed from the gene pool.
Because people asked elsewhere, helicopters generate their lift from the spinning rotor blades. When the air is as hot as it is, it's not as dense, and the blades can't generate the lift because they weren't designed for that kind of air density. Death Valley may be below sea level, but with the air that hot, the helicopter thinks it's high altitude. It's all about the physics.
👍 Boondocking time in NM, that's for sure!
Great video Jason. Keep up the great work. Love catching up on the latest in this community.
Much appreciated!
Ha your in my neighborhood experiencing the weather I am running away from. Currently at Gros Morne national park NL at a lovely 72 degrees.
Crossing New Mexico off my list of places to stay long term. No one’s paying 3x what it was.
Ouch, I'm sure that'll hurt their feelings.😂
@scottmichaels6854 It should, but the again NM is full of tax and spend libtards.
I am glad to see you outside, this is where rv people shoul be !
Nice to be on the road for the next several weeks.
This is a very remarkable channel. Such good information. Evening newscaster vibes appreciated.
@@_LikeATumbleweed thanks so much!
Massachusetts state park and state forest camping is now so high we just don’t even consider them. We used to live there. In state camping is cheap, out of state is not. Will this bring in money, or chase away tourism dollars from the economy?
It'll lose money and chase away the tourism dollars. If it's a modest increase, that's normal but ...
Jason, did they mention what the nightly fee for electric sites will be with the new annual passes? If they're staying the same or being eliminated it could still be a good deal. $600 plus $360 for 90 days of electric use would be $960, not bad for 3 months of camping with power.
Get a longer selfie pole. Feels like we are hugging. LOL!!!!
When you told us the temperature at the start, I noticed how quickly you continued to talk and walk. I was surprised you could breathe! Nice little addition at the end. I’m glad you got out for a trip!
Wow, you did a great job. Good information.
Thank you!
We were recently at the KOA in Charlottesville, VA. Spent one day at Monticello, the next day we had lunch at Michie Tavern then stopped at the Green Valley Bookfair - piles at hardbacks for $4.99 each
I guess we're in Norcal we're just used to high camp fees. $600 is less than 5 days in Lake Tahoe.
Wow😮
Thanks Abby and Jason.
very welcome!
Way to go Oregon keeping tourism down and considering charging $49 for electric only sites to state residents and $62 for non residents plus a 35% surcharge. $49 for an electric only site is really high.
Won’t be going to New Mexico this winter.
As a full time traveler, State Parks need to know that as a rule we seek out county & city parks to avoid “add on” out of state fees. This a life style, not a vacation. So cost does matter. Currently at a county fairground in Manitoba with power & water for $25.91.
NM is basically saying that frequent or long term out of state campers aren't welcome.
Aka, they are sick of the homeless encampments in their state. Sounds smart to me.
@@scottmichaels12 that's a law enforcement issue. Higher fees disproportionately hurt lower income people.
The flight data computers in the helicopter just need to be updated as the same thing happened to airliners back in 1990 when Phoenix hit 122°. No one could takeoff because the flight data computer stopped at 120. Now I think they’ve been up to 135° so that never happens again.
Nice to see you outside. Wear tick repellent in the C'Ville area. Ticks are super bad there this year. I was camping there recently and even with repellent, they were awful. As for price increases, there may come a day when people choose not to camp anymore because it costs too much money...the cost of owning a rig, gas, storage, insurance, escalating camp fees, all adds up $$$$. It costs less to take a cruise or take a trip to Europe.
I paid over $100 a night at Huntington State Park in Murrell's Inlet in South Carolina. Way more than what I have paid to stay there in the past.
Welcome to beautiful central VA, we have camped in scottsville a little south of Charlottesville and Waynesboro just across the mountain Love the area.
Skyline drive through Shenandoah is beautiful and I love taking the Blue ridge parkway part of the way back to Tennessee just not towing an RV!
Sorry for the “early August” weather in VA. Was going to comment how well you were walking and talking at the same time before that bit at the end. LOL. Enjoy C’Ville and wave when you head down the 64/95 corridor through the Richmond area (RVa). We won’t step outside to wave back due to the heat, don’t be offended.
Interesting watch, thanks for sharing.
Texas state parks are also raising their price of the annual pass from $70 to $95
Ya, $600 annually, ahhh no. With the popularity of camping/RVing, I hope that states and private campgrounds don't go to crazy with price hikes as most people will say no and do something else.
Brinkley has recalls but they are notifying customers of the recall
Recalls are a government mechanism. All recalls of all brands involve notification.
Ventura county RV camping went up $10.00 in July.
New Mexico New Mexico Parks are nice, but there’s lots of room for improvement. I hope they use funds from the new fees to do it. The fees also reflect a policy of residents over non-residents, which is great, if you’re a resident.
I am a USAF veteran. I will not pay for a site that has nothing other than a place to park. New mexico charges $10 for a site, it does have trash, and a lake. That can increse to$20 and i would pay that. The yearly non resadent fee of $600 will drive visiters away. My current fixed income, will not allow for these price increases. $25for electric only is fair. $35 electric and water, $45 full hook up. Plus park fees. $10 for a state park for the day is pricy. At $55 a night for state parks, i call that a special occasion, and would only pay it as a 4 werk a year camper. As a full time RVer, i sannot afford these increases
Thanks!
You bet! Thank you so much!!!
That's big of Brinkley to be so proactive. But geesh. I can't believe that got buy them. I'm shocked.
Great info. The rate increases and Google map adds stink.
State legislatures are not really good a setting camping prices or policies. For instance Colorado state parks charge the same rate winter or summer. For instance Lake Pueblo is typically empty in February but ya gotta pay the summer premium price. In California they don't offer in-state resident senior camping rates at all, but if you're on welfare you get a discount. CRAZY!
Just paid $47.40 at Pueblo Lake SP. Ridiculous. It was crowded, noisy, no good views, campsites too close together, and showers were single rooms. So if someone was taking a shower, nobody else can use the toilet. Waaaay overpriced.
That KOA is fantastic!!! 🎉 Enjoy!!!!
Thank you! Will do!
I have ridden my motorcycle in very hot weather a couple times on road trips and you have to take precautions. I have a white helmet that is much cooler than the usual black helmets that are the fashion. I have cooling towels that you put water on and cool by evaporation that I put under my helmet and mesh jacket. Then I was also stopping at every rest area to fill my water bottle and it wasn’t fun. I was very happy to get to the mountains and get up out of the heat. If I ever had to do that again I would stay in a hotel during the hot afternoons and ride in the early morning
Yea, Jason. So Hard.. Yet you didn't even break a sweat! haha.... You Pro, you...
Just paid $52 a night for full hookup at Delaware State Park. That’s in state residence.
At those prices, i will not be using NM state campgrounds 😮
I was like No. 700! Yay! Good Job Jason in the Heat and humidity! Get some water!
Yes! Thank you!
I did not know that about helicopters! 😯 Hmmm. Brinkley recall sounds scary! No second emergency exit? Oh no! Cool hot air balloon video. Gosh, there must be a reason they are making the non-resident fee so high? - Michelle
What brings you to Central Virginia? Yes state parks are creeping up, but full hook ups in PA state parks is around $42, in Maryland $28 to $30 for state parks site with electric, not many full hookup sites. Va State parks are around $30 with electric/water. As for the heat, yes a bit warmer than an average summer, but we have had hotter around here. Stay cool and enjoy your visit.
Our oldest is participating in a film camp in the area. Looking forward to exploring a part of the country we've yet to visit.
@@RVMiles Film Camp sounds like an interesting camp! Hope you get to see some of the attractions in the area. Have a good trip!
Maybe don't go to Death Valley in July or August? Just a thought.
No California, New Mexico or now Oregon. There are many more friendlier and appreciative states to visit.
That's their normal temperature their people
The new NM out of state rates are good if you are going to "do" the state in a clander year.in a year.
Just picture yourself back in little league. You were impervious to heat and humidity. Winning was everything - because that meant you got to the pop first at the end of the game.
Where are you in Charlottesville? We just missed you.
Brinkley. 😆 Grand OSB Design reprise.
there is new campgrounds near Wimberly tx 1200 month plus electricity. BS. they are crazy
Love that campground! Will you be in Virginia long?
we'll be in the state for about 2.5 weeks.
I think the cost of camping is a product of supply and demand. I would expect more states to jump on the bandwagon and increase costs
Anyone else get Josh the nerd vibes?
Another great video, thanks!
I’m not nearly as funny.
Is there no quality control when RVs are assembled with the wrong size wiring . And it possibly gets out of warranty before it's found.
And this is supposed to be a higher quality camper.
It's such a large recall, it seems like a design error rather than a production line issue.
So full hook-up sites in NM will be $40 per night and an annual pass would cost you $600. That's 15 nights. If you do more than 15 nights full hook-up during any summer, you are camping for free!
Not quite free, the average daily rate just gradually decreases the more you camp
600 is no hookups
Wow walking and talking in 96 degrees.
The stationary report is what makes your channel unique. The walking is not so enjoyable. But your content is awesome.
Is it just me, or are you the only person in that campground? For July in Charlottesville Virginia, that seems very odd.
Could be the high temps keeping people away. We'll see what it's like this weekend.
Only thing brinkley is high end in is prices. Genius marketing plan. Sell a mid level mid pro camper for a full profile price, and suckers will line up thinking paying more = better
Not sure how a GM truck can beat out a Ford. GM trucks just can't compare. Looks like I'm going to New Mexico. Wow, did not know Waze was a subsidiary of google maps.
May as well sell the RV. We are getting priced right of of camping, especially if you travel out of your home state.
Lost audio
I need to know what toy hauler to buy to live in for a few years…that won't break its frame! It seems that the industry is willing to screw the customer instead of building a better product.
Sounds like NM hates campers. They’re off my list now.
New Mexico is sooo 3rd world business ignorant
Actually they're trying to get rid of homeless encampments. New Mexico knows that they have a problem with people coming to their state and looking to live for free. And people who are looking to come and stay in the state for as cheap as possible, aren't exactly people who are looking to boost New Mexico's economy. A lot of times they are actually doing the opposite and taking up resources like Police, Fire & Rescue services.
@@scottmichaels12 Homeless people didn't pay before, so how does raising the prices on legit people going to help that situation?
Brinkley Cheaping out on wires to burn trailers down.
tell yall that rv inspectors wont inspect because all wires bound together in box that they cannot inspect
hint was there. inspectors told me wont inspect a brinkley because they had wired bound and inaccessible so inspector did not want hos name attached to an inspection report.
Brinkley is a NEW Rv mfg, they are not known for their quality because they aren’t known for anything yet. Their marketing is that they are known for quality. We need to wake up and be smart consumers, just because a new mfg comes out and promises to focus on quality- we cannot immediately assume they are any different than the others. Nothing against Brinkley, they make a nice LOOKING camper, but quality won’t be known for another 7-10 years. Grand Design is the perfect example of this- the lesson should have been learned by now.
Also, I believe the president of Brinkley RVs came from GD..same company different name.
@@darrells1806 Exactly- they’ve started multiple RV companies, built them up with clever marketing and then sell them out, rinse and repeat. While it’s good to see some new innovation, the promises of quality etc are nothing new. Time will tell if Brinkley really is different, but right now I’m skeptical.
With these changes for fees they just going to price them self out of a job. That’s to much greed. lol 🛠️🇨🇦🛠️🇨🇦
New Mexico: The Land Of Entrapment. NM state govt. is always looking for new ways to fleece the sheeple.
Personally, I enjoy the outside reporting. Watching you while at a desk, meh just not my thing.
Google getting more and more annoying! Ads everywhere, annoying tips, annoying hints, just annoying!
All states are going to have to increase state park prices and change their ways of doing business to discourage these homeless encampments. It's even become a problem in my home state of Oklahoma. Plus, too many people have become "full timers" because they are looking to live in the USA for free. Hate to break it to you people, but that's not a thing. City and state taxes pay for a lot of the "free campsites" in these states. The local worker who is putting in 40-50hrs per week at their job isn't exactly interested in people coming from out of state to live for free at a city or state park or camp in their RV on a street that their tax dollars are funding. And when people say "yeah but these RVers are spending so much money in the community". No they're not. If they're constantly looking for free parking, then they're probably pretty frugal. That doesn't help the community. The United States of America can't continue, yes CONTINUE, to be the greatest country in the world if everyone is quitting their jobs to become full time RVers who live for free. This country was built by workers and needs MORE WORKERS, not more nomads!
You very obviously not an RVer - just trolling RV RUclips sites!!!!!
I hope they do increase their rates..keeps the trash out
pay the workers. i listening to woman complain about no one wants to work at her retail business which is centered in rich suburb and cannot afford to live in suburb on measly pay so that area is paying 20/hr at Bee Caves mall there is no public transportation there either so have to drive from austin. just paying car, car insurance, cell
phone is 1k month already. thats with no housing. people going to be parked all around towns. living in your car gotta park somewhere
😂
& Not use to that type of walking & Recording,Talking.
new RV are piece of crap and now charging outrageous to camp anywhere. eventually those parks will go byebye and people will buy small rv and deck it out solar snd install bigger water tanks. next trend
I laughed at your comment that Brinkley is a “high end manufacturer”. They’re no different than Thor, Jayco, etc. or any other Indiana RV manufacturer. Run by executives and managers that came from other low end manufacturers, built by the same labor force as all the rest, and major components, including the frame, supplied by LCI (Lippert). They’re just the latest buzzword like Grand Design and Alliance that will flame out as the truth about their quality bubbles to the top, the recall being the first example.
If you don't know enough to stay out of death Valley in July, I don't know what to tell you
New Mexico=blue state
Rate increases for state parks are appropriate. It makes no sense to only charge 33 bucks for a full hookup site anywhere, let alone in a beautiful place. The demand for these sites at that price is essentially infinite. Literally, it can be taken as mathematically infinite, there is essentially no limiting factor. The only way to curb that is with rate increases. Already in the comments you see people saying they’ll boondock more or go other places…sounds like it’s already working as planned. I can tell you as a PNW resident that getting these sites is more difficult than most could possibly imagine, they book in seconds. I see no downside to fewer nights spent in them, and people considering alternatives. I also see it as a way of decreasing the temptation to book more sites than people have intention of occupying. You don’t see this with commercial campgrounds because they are market-priced. Very few things in life are affordable, so why should camping be? If some sites are in lower demand, price them accordingly and people on tighter budgets can go there.

Brinkley is so great . Yea ok. They’re as bad as the rest of them.
@@thestooges333 I wouldn’t go that far. They’re still in the “trying to make an impression” stage. We’ll see their true grit in a couple years.
We've had to contact customer service for our Brinkley more than I would prefer, but they've always been very responsive and helpful
@@BobKeefe So was Gand Design at one time, and then it all literally fell apart.
