Greg and Wilma, with you getting very descriptive, it helps all who have questions and want to learn new things. I appreciate all your content in every video.
I like the rough look on the wall. The paint job still looks new after 1 year.
I’m sure you mentioned the manufacturer and brand of the concrete paint on the outside wall but could you recall the brand? If it’s too much for you, I’ll go back through your videos to find it. My fiancé lives in General Santos in Mindanao. I’m planning a paint job at her home during my next visit. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thank you again for all your time that you two give of yourselves .

Further , that topmost detail you mentioned is a horizontal cap, that is to protrude by about a half inch thick from the existing wall surface, for water to drip aground, sparing the walls from stains. That would be better to have 2-10mm dia horizontal bars tied to the chb vertical bars for a more rigid enclosure. Another way is to provind precasted cement mouldings on top, available at citihrdwr that can be screwed directly on the top wall for the nosing you require.

On the external wall that are not part of house only need sealer paint then your finish coats over the render

  • @elavson96
    @elavson96 5 месяцев назад

Did you not explore using the skim coat method of plaster in CHB walls? It could have saved you cost and time due to its workability that only a thin lining is wrapped on the walls and its done, smooth, and much more, you need not paint since there are coats of variable color as you desire. That plastering done is the conventional method that is seldom in practice these days.

    • @buildingthephilippines

boysen acrylic latex is good paint. it adheres to concrete very well, if the wall is rough put it on thick. the higher the gloss the more water and dirt will stay off it.
why dont you just put a small 3 foot gutter over that wall in the video sloping to outside?
if you dont like gutters i understand but a small piece of gutter just over that wall will stop it from staining streaks down it over time. maybe just cut in half a section of 4 inch plastic pipe and paint it white with oil enamel 2 coats and screw it up there. (pre drill the screw holes in the pipe) you may need to put a short section of wood fascia board there to anchor it to, paint it good with the oil enamel too before putting it up. or you could make a little metal extension on your rafters to get the gutter out where it needs to be and screw it to that.
it only needs to be 6 inches onto the inside where you'll see it and no need to put end cap on it if its sloped good.
i had a similar situation on my terrace upstairs and had to deal with it as it stained my terrace wall dripping down all the time. the rest of the roof over my terrace has no gutter.

So let me get this straight: Philipinos ,as a rule, are never on time for anything. Your workers usually start at 8am except on Saturdays. So instead of hanging out and getting paid for a free hour; at 7:01 they say to themselves "Hey instead of a free hour, let's just take a free day". I understand this is a harsh assessment, and if it was me I would probably do the same and pay them. But jeez, this sounds like a game of gotcha. I hope everything else works out just fine!👍

As a retiree in the construction industry, i look at that attitude of the working men as a sign of disrespect. With all due respect to this blog and you sir,you are the owner who calls the shots. Not them. Dealing with workers in this country takes a bit of discipline and hammering in a while, so as not to be misconstrued that we cannot do things without them, for that is an open door to insubordination and abuse. You tell them to work, they must report. For them to give a self declaration of rest day without your prior approval is a big no for me.

I noticed a large crack from floor to the top of the wall just to the right of the new wall extension, is this a common occurrence maybe you can do a home & wall inspection and create some content regarding the cracks. I know that it’s a common occurrence when rendering is involved in home construction in the Philippines,
Rendering = Mortar slinging to finish a surface

    • @buildingthephilippines

That's in the skim coat, not concrete. However, there's a few cracks here and there in the concrete as well. As long as it's superficial it's fine.

Your not an experienced builder until you have render washed off the wall, it happens to everyone at some point in their building lives. 😅
No problem painting directly onto concrete as long as the render is 28 days old or leave it longer if possible because render takes 3-4 months to fully cure. The problem we have in the Philippines is the quality of the paint its the most expensive bucket of water you are ever likely to buy. The best thing about it is the bucket as they are sturdy and come in very useful.

    • @buildingthephilippines

You're probably one of the few that renders the outside of a wall!!! Almost every house we've looked at that has an existing wall from the existing neighbor has the outside of their wall (which would be our side) unfinished!
I totally understand how easy it is to get your days mixed up... happened to Christine and I, last Friday! In our minds we thought it was Thursday, and scheduled a plumber for (what we thought) Friday. 🤔 But we needed to be in Manila on Saturday and Sunday (ended up coming home on Monday), and when we realized our mistake of what day it was, had to cancel the plumber and a trip to the hardware store 😂🤣
