Meruem slowly becoming more and more human as the arc progresses is one of my favorite parts of HxH. Even Netero is taken by surprise.

Meruem is one of the best antagonists in all anime history
and the best story ark in all anime
I barely even think of him as an actual antagonist, more like he was just born in a unique position

You’re absolutely right, this arc is the best in all of anime. I think people mix up and say hxh is the best but it’s not complete but they usually get that view from this arc. This arc was perfect.
Looking back, Komugi’s Nen is one of the strongest of all. The condition set makes Nen grow stronger the greater the risk. Komugi was risking her life, the greatest risk one can set, as was shown when Gon risked his life to defeat Pitou. As such, although it’s limited to just Gungi, there’s nobody that can defeat her, not even a genius ant who can calculate thousands of possible moves in milliseconds. Makes one wonder what she’d have been like if she dedicated herself to combat rather than Gungi.
In any other shonen she’d be the protagonist
Kurapika is kinda the combat side of that idea, at least against Spiders.
No you have this wrong buddy. Gon actually wagered something WORSE. This was mentioned by Illumi to Hisoka. He wagered something WORSE than death which was being Alive in that tortured mummy state.
Gon introduced us to a risk worse then death which was insane.

The fact Komugi beat Meruem's resolutions so hard that he hurts himself to save his pride. And that was the biggest damage that meruem suffer by an opponent

The funny thing is that she doesn't even have a clue about anything that's happneing with the chimera ants.
Yea I know she thinks the ants are people. That's atleast what her minds eye was imagining while talking with them before the attack on the palace. With that being said she was better off being at the palace with the chimera ants than the humans who were there before. She was probably the safest human at that point bc nothing short of a nuke being detonated on meruems noggin took him out. The sad part is that when you suffer radiation poisoning after the initial effects you go through a wellness period for a short while where you actually feel good, better than normal even before suffering an unimaginably painful death. We got to witness those effects.
I loved so much Meruem and Komugi interactions...
The fact meruem can tore his arm off so easily while his body is stupidly tough shows what a monster he is
Episode 135 was and still is the best thing I’ve watched to date
Meruem had a *perfect* character development. I've never seen other like that ( only Thorfinn in Vinland Saga and Guts in Berserk but unlike them, Meruem's plotline lasted only one arc)

He realized his attempt at using fear, by betting her arm on the match, was a cheap tactic useless against Komugi as she always bets her life not just a mere arm. Not only useless, as her state of mind and emotion didnt impact her level of play, but also rude and uncultured.
So he ripped of his own arm as an apology, for his arrogant trespass.
And as proof he stands behind his words.

Meruem make a bet to scared Komugi. She didn't catch the point but raised the bet against him lol. Meruem was beaten on his own dirty tactic and that's why he was ashamed so he hurst himself.
Best arc in all of Hunter X Hunter so far.
While this arc def had the highest peaks of the show, I personally still prefer the Yorknew city arc. This arc was paced pretty poorly imo and to much time spent on side characters I didn't care for.

I won’t lie and say i think HxH is the best anime out there because it really does depend on people's opinions.
But i will say i think this arc is definitely the best arc in any anime.
The contrast between gon losing humanity and meruem gaining humanity. Along with the fact that his power was built up from the very beginning to be unstoppable yet what killed him was the humility of an innocent child.
Yeah, the finale makes me cry literally every time I watch it. Such a beautiful arc
Meruem turned into Gon(nice in the beggining) and Gon turned into Meruem(who was evil in the beggining)
Gon didn't turn "evil" he was just vengeful and blinded by rage. What they were showing us in the Chimera Ant Arc is how the ants are slowly becoming more "human" (sympathetic, caring, remorseful) while showing how "monstrous" humans can be (callous, controlled by rage, cold hearted).
Gon was losing his humanity, while Meruem was becoming more humane* - more like that
I like the one sided ego battle at play here. This has been Meruem's journey through his ego

I miss HxH, I know togashi has problems but the dark continent arc would be so good if his problems fixed it's like we only saw the uk and then now we have the rest of europe to explore. I am sad to say this but Hunter x Hunter will never finish x finish.
She did more damage to him than Netero, technically speaking, by getting him to rip off his own arm like that. Netero had to rely on humanity's power to take him down.

Just saw this yesterday
While hxh is solid, Chim Arc I would argue is top 3 greatest arcs of ALL TIME (music, characters, plot, etc.) The only thing holding me back from calling it #1 is because sometimes the narrator points out TOO many obvious things that were going to happen anyway, that kind of annoyed me.

The way you can see his human side coming out against his ant side and against his pride is amazing. You see him waiting on every word of hers and he asks more. Nothing in the world interests him more than her and hes shocked to not hear the responses he would absolutely hear from anyone else.
Its easy to see why pouf was so concerned. Around komugi, hes the most vulnerable he could ever be.
