Tips from the triathlon/competitive running world: 1) Endurance - This seems to be the common issue with many. Strength and flexibility can be quite easy for young men and certain athletic women. Endurance takes time to build-up and there are no short cuts. You need a plan and to build up over time. Running is one of the best endurance exercises to do. You can do it anywhere with minimal equipment. Run/walk workouts are good to use also. Younger people and/or inexperienced people often go one speed and flat out, which is not a good way to train at all. 2) Extreme temperature range - In Canada and depending on what part of Canada, you can go from +30 C to - 25 C in the year. This is brutal on outdoor training. But with the right plan you can keep peak performance. And yes, you can run in -25 C, well until your eyelashes freeze shut. And you can run at +30 C put your heart is working very hard and your pace will slow, if you don't slow your pace well then you end up collapsing. The key again is time and getting out on a regular basis, conditioning your body to the change and adapting to the weather. 3) Negative split - Not sure in the military world if you call it this. It is the mental conditioning that you know the task, test or exercise ahead and you purposely pace to only about 60-70% of your capacity in the first 2/3 rds to 3/4 ths of the exercise. For the last part of the exercise, you go to almost full capacity. This leaves you with 'gas in the tank' and finishing strong. This takes a lot of practice and a disciplining of your mind. Hope this helps

Hi Matsimus, sorry for your loss. I have a pug buddy which I absolutely love him to bits. Tank will rest happily and easily knowing that you’ve loved him to the best of your abilities. I always get emotional when I see pet owners sending their dogs off because I can really emphatically feel how much they love their pets. It is similar to losing a loved member of your family.
Hey man, I don’t know you personally, but I wish things were different for your dog. Tank was an absolute dear and you two were lucky to have each other. RIP.

I love the fact that the combat test uses combat kit and doesn't have reduced standards based on age or gender. That wall you need to get over in Syria doesn't care how old you are or what bathroom you use.

The Force Test is probably the only test I've seen where you make it as hard as you want. I can attest that an overweight under-trained guy can pass it if he tries hard enough. But if you want the bragging rights or self satisfaction that comes with bronze, silver, gold or platinum, then goddamn this test beats the shit out of you. I passed with no incentive but let me tell you the only thing you get out of that is a desire to get a better mark next time. Hell out of all the members in my Wing only one person was able to get Platinum, that's astounding. For my fellow CAF members if you ever want to get a better mark in the Force Test, talk to PSP, they're your best resource. For my foreign friends I can only say this, work hard and utilize any resource to get better. Anyone can pass the force test. But getting a incentive level takes time, dedication and a lot of sweat. To quote Red Green: "Remember, I'm pulling for ya, we're all in this together". PS: My deepest condolences for your loss Mat. May your dog rest is peace.
Matt. I just want to say how sorry I am. I'm currently going through the loss of a dog as well I know exactly how you feel and I'm sorry that you have to go through this.
The getting rained on, freezing, sweating, wearing dirty clothes, standing in line, sitting in line, lying in dirt, staring at the horizon, getting woken up in the night, walking at night, walking all day, getting on trucks, getting off trucks, lifting up targets, lowering targets, picking up brass, cleaning weapons test.
It's good to see someone post a video describing the canadian armed forces testing process. I've been applying since February and, while there are videos of what to expect in the testing areas, no one has posted any personal views or helpful tips. I've been training pretty hard for when the test comes, but for the people who apply without knowing what they're getting into, it can be intimidating. So thanks!
Been thinking about enlisting all through college and I think this video has made up my mind. Thank you for putting this video together it was really helpful.
It was harder than I expected, but doing it along with the other recruits pushed me to complete the physical test. I highly recommend working out on alot on pull-day and leg/lower body in workouts in preparation. Don't slack!
I don't typically comment but wanted to tell you to hang in there. When Tank gets wherever it is that good dogs go, tell him to look for Clutch and he'll have a solid buddy to pal around with. Clutch had to leave us last month and it was devastating. You're allowed to be sad btw, no need to stay composed. I'm very sorry for your loss brother.
The comments are disabled on your other video, but I wanted to tell you this. I know what it’s like to lose a pet, no comforting or saying, “just think about all the happy times.” will necessarily help. These things just bring up how much we miss them and how big they were in our lives. I know everyone grieves differently, but I would suggest you try to take some time with the people you care about, even a phone call to loved ones is enough. You don’t even have to talk about Tank, just ask them how they’re doing. As much as I like your videos, take a break and spend some time with those close to you. Love you man, I hope you are ok.
Been lifelong dream to join the Army. I finally decided to try and do it. Going to quit smoking(weed and vapes) start dieting and exercising every single day until I go into bmq!
2023 Update. Ok. So I did both this Force Test and the Combat Force Test and I have feedback to provide if you want. Even if it helps one person, my job is done. 1) Prep I don't care if you're a special forces tier 1 unit operator or a national athlete. This test/workout is literally designed to get you panting and sweating. It's not that the motions and exercises themselves are hard. It's that these excersies are back to back and UNDER TIME. Which increases the pressure. BUT RELAX, I got some tricks and tips for you. Listen in. Prepare before the test obviously, but I don't mean lift weights or workout heavy. This is an endurance test. So get your stamina up. Replicate these exercises and try and chop down the times. So that on the day of the test, it's not your first time doing it. Trust me. I've done that. It will kick your ass. Even if you're a damn PT stud. 2) Nutrition Don't be an idiot. Don't eat alot before the test. Some do and they end up yaking it all out. Drink water. BRING ELECTROLYTES Eat a Banana or two an hour or two before the test. Trust me. Many have cramps on this test and that is not fun. You don't wanna be that guy. I've been there, others have been there. And its just not a good time. Learn from our dumbass mistakes. 3) Timing Ok. So, if it's your first time, you can ask the moderator or instructor to give you a half count. Meaning, when the clock hits halfway for an exercise (this excludes the drag). Your instructor can shout that out and it gives you a good basis. This is important, it can help calm you or speed you up. You might get this request rejected. Ask another candidate to do it. It's not against the rules. 4) Sequence Ok, so if you get the opportunity, strategize your sequence of the 4 exercises. Meaning: Do the Shuttle Rushes first. Then the Sand Bag lifts Then the Drag And finally the Loaded Shuttles My guys found this to be the easiest sequence. You want your power at the start and then close off with the 5:20 min exercise at the end. 5) The Shuttle Rushes If you're someone who gets dizzy easily or has poor coordination on your feet. Don't do this one first. Fit it in the middle 2nd or 3rd There's alot of spinning and up and down and I've seen people land on their face. 6) Sand Bag lifts Dude. SLOW DOWN. Everyone rushes the heck out of these. Unless you're trying to hit a PR. Slow down. You have tons of time. 3:00 mins is alot of time. That's about 5 seconds each. We tested this by doing 5 seconds between each lift and still passed. Slow down. You still have other relays to complete. 7) Sandbag Drag Don't look back. The area is cordened off and clear. It's human nature to look back when walking backward. Avoid this. You're just twisting your body into a judo throw with the damn sandbag. Just pull... Consistent rate. 8) Loaded Shuttles This feels like forever. But once you actually get started it's easy. You can literally jog on this one and you'll still make time. But put out, this one is the only exercise that takes into account your waist ratio measurement (They do this at the start of the test) . There's a reason for that. Doing this one last is a bit of a suck. You're tired, going in circles. Never ending. But just start and before you know it, you're set. They will prompt you to sprint on each relay (unloaded). You can, but tbh it's not necessary. And that's it. The combat fitness test is harder. It involves you in all your battle rattle and a ruck. But you can build up to it. Just add one piece of equipment on at a time and do this force exercises regularly. 9) Recover and Personal After Action Report Take a picture of the damn paper once you've done the test. You DO NOT want to do this again due to lost paperwork. Ask me how I know. Record your timing in a journal. Heck, use it for personal workouts. Find the weakest number and attack it head on. Yeah you're good at shuttles big woop. Can you do 40-50 sandbag lifts now in the same 3 minutes? Exactly. And that's it. Hope this helps. Go Without Fear.
The fitness test you will get (FORCE test), is not to hard and should be easy for most people. I did my test when i was 16 ( in the reserves). If i could give tips: Make sure you’re able to run for at-least 400m without stopping and able to lift 20lbs without fatigue consistently. You should be good. Best of luck!
20 pound left? our rucksacks in the 1970s/1980s where around 80 pounds. 20 pounds is the amount of beer a soldier should be able to carry out to the field while juggling an extra large pizza
Lmao what a coincidence i just recently made the choice to join and am out of shape and here I are a few weeks later of not finding anything to useful UNTIL THIS CAME ty ty ty

For anyone looking to join up, bear in mind that the standard of fitness at most reg force combat arms regiments is much higher than the standard it takes to pass this test. Anyone looking to join in one of these regiments should focus on achieving silver at a minimum. That includes supporters (mechanics, weapon techs, etc) attached on to our units. Also note that anyone deploying over seas will have to complete the Force Combat Test.

I am sorry to hear that you have to lose your best friend Tank there Matsimus.
Sending you all the hugs
I like the fact that the male and female standards are the same. If you want equality have equal standards.
@@faucisexperimentalbeagle403 lmao
Is this still the case??
Just don't lower the standards so a person with polio can pass.
@@SASHAHAG I just recently applied!
Women have different attributes. Brain vs braun is one of them. We’ve evolved to manipulate things in life for our benefit. We’ve had to.
Thank you for supporting the CAF community and those who are attempting to get into it.
Very sad for your loss mate.. stay strong coz thats what your dog would want.
Well always remember Tank my condolences.
Hey man, I don’t know you personally, but I wish things were different for your dog. Tank was an absolute dear and you two were lucky to have each other. RIP.
My Wife and I lost our dog, Indy, last month, while we were on our anniversary. Not being there for him, or our kids, was hard. Feeling your pain, fella.
I just watched the video with you and Tank and wanted to post but comments are disabled on that vid.
Im terribly sorry for your loss. Its so very clear how much he means to you and i can certainly relate.
I know how hard it is to lose a beloved dog.
I just wanted to let you know my thoughts and prayers are with you and Tank as im sure thousands of others are as well.
Stay strong brother.
RIP Tank.
Love ya man, we are with you. Loss hurts.
So sorry Mat, I remember when my bunny died and how broken I was because it was with me since 7 years old.For me it was harder than a human’s death, I was so sad.Hope you will get better and remember that he will have you in his mind as his universe and everything. And he is somewhere thinking of you.Don’t be sad that it ended, be happy that it happened.
I love the fact that the combat test uses combat kit and doesn't have reduced standards based on age or gender. That wall you need to get over in Syria doesn't care how old you are or what bathroom you use.
Hey matt send all the love to tanky boi for us all
Sorry about your loss, Tank will be greatly missed.
Sorry to hear about Tank, just wanted to share my condolences and tell you that you and Tank are in my thoughts!
Thank you again for all the content!
I’m so sorry for your loss
Peace
Sorry to hear about your loss, know i am with you❤

We’re all here for you man! Sorry for your loss.
So sorry for your loss.
We do not know each other but as an animal lover I consider you my friend.
I just saw 10 seconds of you last video with your dog and understand immediately what was going on.
You did not enabled the comments so I leave you a comment on this video.
Just know that I send to you and your dog a lot of love.
I know exactly what you are going threw.
It is very very hard but the most important thing is that your dog suffer the least.
Excuse my french because I am french indeed.
I send you my priers.
❤️
I am so sorry for your lost.
Hey man i’m so sorry for your loss stay strong! Condolences from California ❤️❤️
Matt. I just want to say how sorry I am. I'm currently going through the loss of a dog as well I know exactly how you feel and I'm sorry that you have to go through this.
can you belive that some fucker disliked it
The getting rained on, freezing, sweating, wearing dirty clothes, standing in line, sitting in line, lying in dirt, staring at the horizon, getting woken up in the night, walking at night, walking all day, getting on trucks, getting off trucks, lifting up targets, lowering targets, picking up brass, cleaning weapons test.
So thanks!
Stay strong keep your head up 🙏 for him
Damnt matsimus. I feel for you, I can’t imagine when the day comes and my best friend has to go. Sorry for your loss.
Been thinking about enlisting all through college and I think this video has made up my mind. Thank you for putting this video together it was really helpful.
I just saw the recent video about tank. Stay strong. We are here for you, hurting alongside you. ♥️♥️
It was harder than I expected, but doing it along with the other recruits pushed me to complete the physical test. I highly recommend working out on alot on pull-day and leg/lower body in workouts in preparation. Don't slack!
I feel your pain brother. Stay strong. RIP Tank, o7
Just want to say Sorry for your lost. Your faithful friend will be in our hearts and never be forgotten.
Hi lad sorry to hear about tank lad I lost my lab to old age it broke me too lad it's still hurts stay strong lad
I have a D R E A M! haha!! www.gofundme.com/f/matt039s-cvrt-tank-dream-fund?+share-sheet
Aidan Mattson everyone like this comment
I am so sorry about your loss mat! Please stay strong we are here for you!
Stay strong mate, were here for you.
Been lifelong dream to join the Army. I finally decided to try and do it. Going to quit smoking(weed and vapes) start dieting and exercising every single day until I go into bmq!
Hearts out for tank! Hugs out for mat!
2023 Update.
Ok. So I did both this Force Test and the Combat Force Test and I have feedback to provide if you want. Even if it helps one person, my job is done.
1) Prep
I don't care if you're a special forces tier 1 unit operator or a national athlete.
2) Nutrition
Don't be an idiot. Don't eat alot before the test. Some do and they end up yaking it all out.
Drink water.
BRING ELECTROLYTES
Eat a Banana or two an hour or two before the test.
Trust me. Many have cramps on this test and that is not fun. You don't wanna be that guy. I've been there, others have been there. And its just not a good time. Learn from our dumbass mistakes.
3) Timing
Ok.
4) Sequence
Ok, so if you get the opportunity, strategize your sequence of the 4 exercises.
Meaning:
Do the Shuttle Rushes first.
Then the Sand Bag lifts
Then the Drag
And finally the Loaded Shuttles
My guys found this to be the easiest sequence.
You want your power at the start and then close off with the 5:20 min exercise at the end.
5) The Shuttle Rushes
If you're someone who gets dizzy easily or has poor coordination on your feet.
Don't do this one first. Fit it in the middle 2nd or 3rd
There's alot of spinning and up and down and I've seen people land on their face.
6) Sand Bag lifts
Dude.
7) Sandbag Drag
Don't look back. The area is cordened off and clear. It's human nature to look back when walking backward. Avoid this. You're just twisting your body into a judo throw with the damn sandbag. Just pull... Consistent rate.
8) Loaded Shuttles
This feels like forever.
9) Recover and Personal After Action Report
Take a picture of the damn paper once you've done the test.
Lmao what a coincidence i just recently made the choice to join and am out of shape and here I are a few weeks later of not finding anything to useful UNTIL THIS CAME ty ty ty
just run and do bodyweight exercises (push ups, sit ups, pull ups, burpees)
Hey, I'm here cause the comments on the original were blocked. I wanted to let you know I felt very sad with the bad news. Find comfort knowing he had a good & happy life with you. I know how that feels.in the las 3 years I've lost both my cat, Agatha who I found under some leaves waay back in 2004 and lasted all the way up to 2017. I fucking cried and broke like 5 pieces of forniture, and just one month back I lost my grandfather. Find peace knowing they loved you and wouldn't wanna see you like that. I'm sorry man
I’m so sorry to hear about your furry friend your a great guy and great RUclipsr ur literally one of my favourite RUclips’s stay strong ❤️🙏🙏🙏
Mate I'm so sorry about tank I know how it feels to lose a dog and it hurts so much cause they become a big part of our lives but we have to think they're in a much better place now, you gave him an amazing life and I know he's grateful for it. Stay strong mate, keep your head up high and take the time you need we'll still be here for you.
Hey man, I know I never comment on your videos and I know everyone else is going to be the same....but I just wanted to say I feel you. And that we’re with you, I know it sounds really corny but I’m being honest

IM SO DEEPLY ENTIRELY SORRY FOR THE NEWS ABOUT TANK. my wife and I don’t have kids in the traditional sense. We have a kitty, a5yr old beagle and this past January we lost my best friend of 10 years (a ten year old poodle Bichon named biscuit) it was sudden, out of know where and it happened in my arms. It’s been very challenging to accept it and move forward.
I’m praying for you matsimus!!
I’m sure tank loved you as much as you loved him. And I’m sure you gave him a good life.
My prayers are with you.
I thumbs downed the video not because I didn’t like it but because I don’t like that you had to make it.
Again I’m am sooo sorry matsimus
God speed from Michigan
For anyone looking to join up, bear in mind that the standard of fitness at most reg force combat arms regiments is much higher than the standard it takes to pass this test. Anyone looking to join in one of these regiments should focus on achieving silver at a minimum. That includes supporters (mechanics, weapon techs, etc) attached on to our units.
Also note that anyone deploying over seas will have to complete the Force Combat Test.
I am terribly sorry to hear about Tank, damn it sucks! :(
Stay strong, and i wish you the best!
