@ParkerJordanStilley That's sort of a complex question, which I delve into in the intro of my first book, Origami to Astonish and Amuse. The simple answer is I experiment a LOT! I sometimes fold randomly (which is called "freefolding") and other times I have an object and objective in mind. I also build a lot onto models that already exist; models evolve out of each other, like the flashers, the pop-ups, the spinners, etc. Well there's a lot more to it, but that's the answer in 500 characters.

@TamsterNooblet You know there are more origami video's on the internet than just mine! You could also probably find a bunch of diagrams at the library? (if you live near one).
On second thought, you could tape the arms of the space monster directly to the middles of the two poster board pages! It wouldn't pop out of the book, but at least it would open its mouth when you separate the two pages.

@ErichWr Ha Ha! Good idea! Tape it on the end of a frogs tongue and tape the outer layers of the frogs between the two pages you want it to pop out from. I think it would work best if the two pages are poster board... the frogs tongue card stock and the Space Monster from some lightweight paper. I don't think you'll get the space monster to open it's mouth... but you never know!...

Man, I remember when I was 11, I was practicing a lot to fold it after many fails but then I did it. It was amazing those old times.
