Very sad to see this. I worked on there in the late 70's, I was part of the full time staff. My last job was a supervisor on the kiddies section. We was paid higher wages in the winter as we would have to re-paint the rides and build new ones. There would be 8 or 10 painting the cyclone. I helped building the big wheel. Many happy memories of that time.
We used to go for holidays down that way regularly when I was a kid and have fond memories of the park when it was still Morecambe Pleasure Park, long before it was changed to Frontierland. First roller coaster I ever rode was the old wooden Cyclone (later renamed Texas Tornado post Frontierland makeover). The logflume wasn't there when we first started going (1970s), it came a bit later, very early 1980s I think. The Wild Mouse, pretty much identical to the bigger sister park at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, was just over to one side, close to the logflume and the Rockets were next to that, with a circular amusement arcade underneath. Sad to see it almost entirely gone now, so many happy holiday memories there, Morecambe was busy back then with family holidays, the beach, the Pleasure Park, the wee fairground further along behind the Winter Gardens, the two piers and that large outdoor swim park with wave machine that replaced the old open air Deco period pool on the seafront by the Midland Hotel. Different time, sad to see how run down the town is these days
When i was a kid 8 or 10yrs old my late mums partner had a barbers shop in morecambe i loved it use to get a wristband for about 3.50 pound and go on frontierland for hours end up in funhouse brilliant times iam now nearly 49yrs old so long frontier land got my great memories 😀👍😊
Going ABROAD IS CHEAPER.. AND 90% GUERNTEED DECENT WEATHER. (( I'VE BEEN ALL OVER THE WORLD )) ADVENTURES OUT THERE. (( GET BUSY LIVING OR GET BUSY DIEING ))
Truly sad. I have far too many happy, happy, happy childhood memories of this park - the pre-American themed version - along with those at Rhyl and Southport for me not to mourn the demise of all three.
Shame on Lancaster county council for allowing this to happen ! Everything is all about money these days - used to go there every year had some great memories there
Great vid, thanks for posting. It was always great to go to Frontierland. The Cyclone wasn't bad and the Wild Mouse was awesome. We used to go to the pictures a lot at the now-vanished cinema. Was it the Regent? Can't remember.. Happy days back then, but its so sad to see Morecambe and the West End falling into disrepair.
I was never fortunate enough to see the park at its height. I remember my dad taking me to this "amazing place" when I was about 8. We arrived at Morecambe, and no funfair was to be found. That was one of the biggest disappointments of my childhood.
Interesting film, I worked there for a couple of seasons from early season 1996 to ends of season 1997, remember it so well, got to know lots of people, I was the only electrician on site so it’s was long hours in the Summer, that side entrance at the start of the video was the engineers and other staff access to the site not a public one, but you could nip through on the way down from the car park. Good times.
Really sad, Morrisons own the land but won't do anything to bring tourists into morecambe. Remember the empire arcade with the empire and Arcadian cinemas. If 6 numbers came up the first thing I'd do would be to look to resurrect a theme park. It's what morecambe needs.
i stay in scotland my street used to do a yearly trip to there, i used to look forward to the summer holidays from school to go there,, i dont know if it was true you could see the big one in blackpool from the top of the polo mint
This video was filmed in 208 and it was eight years ago and polo tower was dirty then and we are now in 2016 and last weekend we drove past and it is still dirty so they haven't cleaned it and never will.
@@shabbagaz it was sad when the Ranch House Burnt Down as they knocked it down along with the water tower. Is the back entrance still there where he started the video? Also yes if you go past on a Double Decker Bus you can see the railings and the concrete from the log flume
The Thompson family pulling out is what killed it. The council refused their plans for expansion. It's disgraceful the site has been derelict for so long. Morecambe is a dive now.
Dear Jim, I would love to obtain a decent copy of this video for our heritage collection. I am a member of a group of people trying to open a heritage centre in the next few years and also collect films about Morecambe. I am also a film maker in my own right, see www.heritagevideoproductions.co.uk, and go around giving video assisted talks about the area.I also work as a volunteer for the North West Film Archive. If you are local perhaps you might like to visit our video club, www.morecambebaymoviemakers.org.uk? Kind regards Chris Abram

It’s 2019 and it’s still sat there doing nothing every trace of the park has been removed now it’s just wasteland such a shame
That's actually so sad :(
There is still a little trace, other than the substation, the railings and platform for the log flume are still there. For now anyway!

It was always the poor relation to Blackpool Pleasure Beach, but still worth a visit in its prime. Sad to see the site like this.
I can only & totally agree with you toffeeblue. I went every year too.Bastard council and a tight arse owner that only thinks about money.
😢
What a shame and what a waste
