Anyone remember the Gaumont cinema and the Dancing Waters Show ? Steel was used for munitions for WW 1........it became even rarer then ! At least the Town Hall survives. The filling station ( garage ) was handy on the corner , but that’s gone too . Our Mum used to work in the off licence next to Morecambe FC ( Christie Park ) and used to serve Eric Morecambe with his pipe tobacco ! Cheers.
Great video. Thanks for posting. Never knew there had been a tower like that in Morecambe. I had been looking for info on New Brighton Tower and Watkin's Tower when I found it mentioned.
I just remember The Gaumont - I was only 8 when it was demolished. Our bus, from Carnforth, terminated outside the door. I remember the wave of interest in 10 pin bowling, in the early 60s, but Morecambe Bowl did not last long - like most things in Morecambe really.
Great! I found this very interesting as I never knew that Morecambe had a tower, not as grand as Blackpool, but a tower none the less. Such a shame it didn't survive it would have been quite an attraction today.
Times change but what Morecambe had & lost is just plain ridiculous, .Frontierland, Marineland ,Alhambra, Winter Gardens,(hanging in there) A pier (ffs), odean ., the original train station, it would cost millions to get it all back ,that no council can afford. but all of a sudden , Eric lived there!.
Trust Morecambe to get rid of such a fine building

The red seats ended up in the Plaza Cinema. It continued to be called the Tower through bingo night club cinema dance venue etc.

3 piers !
Yeah better NOT OVER SPEND ON A STATUE OF ERIC EHH ,, LOW MENTALITY IDIOTS
Those councillors that killed Morecambe should be jailed.
Morecambe had two piers and the stone jetty. Frontierland closed because of a big bust up between Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Lancaster City Council.
Morecambe Pleasure Park was great.
Shame they turned it into some Wild West cowboy thing...@@frankpreston2167

Like a smaller Tower of Babel. But are you sure they didn't build it?
Morecambe Council were not Wise.
