Thanks for all the info, the 2 things I did different were remove the fuel filter back bracket, (2x 10mm upper bolts and 2x 10mm lower bolts) plus not drain the power steering fluid just remove the 3x 10mm bolts and there's enough flex on the hoses to move over giving enough clearance to remove the alternator from the top side. 👍👊

For anyone wondering if it works, I tried pulling the alternator through the wheel arch. Even with the tensioner pulley removed, it’s still just too tight. In any case, to remove the alternator ecu connector was almost impossible without removing the fuel filter guard, so at that point you might as well go down that route.
I did find that the power steering pump could just be unbolted and the reservoir unbolted, then the whole assembly lifted out of the way. Saved draining or breaking into the power steering system.
    Really helpful video though, thanks.

Great video. Where can you buy the plugs you when you disconnected the fuel lines?

This was brilliant and without it I don't think I would have tackled my alternator change. I left the power steering resevoir in place and tied back the pump and had plenty of space, also left the wheell on and there was enough space to access the panel with the the steering turned.

So I managed to do this without taking out the fuel filter or the Power steering fluid. By undoing the two pipes on the left, as you look at it, fuel filter and popping them over the steering fluid pipe and also loosening some of the fluid pipes from their clips on top of the engine you can actually move them out of the way enough to get the alternator out and the new one in. It is a bit of a struggle but doable and very little spillage.

That’s good! 😁 Interesting how there are different ways on how to do it! 🧰

Hi again guys - having taken a look through the wheel well isn’t it possible to do the job through there instead, there seems acres of room and doesn’t disturb anything topside? I’m going to be changing the alternator clutch pulley sometime soon and hope to do that from underneath? Cheers!

Hi guys, great video! Can I ask, where did you get hold of the pipe bungs you used when you removed the fuel filter? Cheers!

Hello! 😊 Glad you liked the video! They came with one of the fuel filters we brought in the box. But we can’t remember what manufacturer it was, sorry. It was either Bosch or Mann Filters.

Hi I love the video very helpful. Can you please tell me does the power steering pump have a duel purpose, I have been looking at ps pumps they also go to ac aswell. Any help will be very much appreciated. Regards Steve.

Hi Steve! Pleased you liked the video! 😊 The power steering pump is solely for the steering. The AC has a separate pump located below the power steering pump. The caps we used for the fuel filters are something that have come with previous fuel filters we have brought. Can’t remember if it was the Bosch or Mann filters though. 🧰

Hi, great video and I have to do the same this weekend. To second Stephens comment can you tell us where to get the plugs you used to block the fuel pipes?

How much will it cost to change the alternator?

    • @FrenchiesRoadTrips
      @FrenchiesRoadTrips  Год назад

Hello! 🙂 It depends on where you take your car for the repair. It would probably be best to get a few quotes before going with the first garage. Look at reviews of the garage too. Doesn’t have to be Land Rover Specialist. The alternator can vary in price depending if you have a heated windscreen or don’t . Can be anything from around £150 to £200.
Hope you get it sorted 🙏

This is ridiculous. The title should say it's for the diesel model, of which there are far less vehicles than the gas model.

Hey Stevan! Thanks for your feedback 🙂 We made the video based on my car which is a diesel. I have adjusted the title 👍
