  • Buzludzha Monument is one of the last remarkable piece of Communist history. With its spectacular architectural design, that even today after almost 30 years full of neglect, it's marked as one of the top 7 most endangered monuments in Europe. However, that did not stop people to travel from all over the world to come in Bulgaria and see in person the bulgarian socialist "UFO".
Join me in this documentary series exploring the Buzludzha Monument.

I’m making it my goal to become successful enough to afford a sizeable grant to fund the restoration of this monument. This is one of those pieces of architecture that are timeless as well as indicative of a world that no longer exists. It deserves to be restored and preserved for centuries to come.

Loving this, really cool to see what’s currently happening over there. I’ve always seen the monument popping up in urbex videos and abandoned places books. Always had the urge to go and visit it myself. Love that they are renovating and preserving the place, also bummed out that I didn’t get a chance to visit before they started this and you could just roam around the place by yourself.
Does anyone have more info or even a ISBN of the book you’re using some pictures of btw? Would love to see more and read more about the monument itself.

До голяма степен удовлетвори желанието ми за проникване с взлом ;) Все пак ще си позволя да отбележа, че гласът зад кадър можеше да бъде с малко по-приятна интонация (извинявам се за критиката). Hello, as far as I'm aware the book has been re-published in 2022 and it has been sold/shipped online only within Bulgaria.
The Title is - "Строи се монумент" (Monument under construction) by Бедрос Азинян (Bedros Azinyan) one of the three photographers that were working on site, and it's a photo album, with images from the construction back in the 80's.
You can search - "dvetemuzi" - which is the official distributor of the book.
      Hope that helps.

Communism produced some of the best art and architecture in the world. This monument should never have been left to rot. I'd like to see it restored fully to its former glory! I can't understand the insanity of destroying such works of art. Many communist era sculptures and art have moved away or destroyed.

I had wondered why no rich person had bought this to use as a business centre, it would make a very impressive headquarters. I assume that the cost of renovation on that level corrosion would be prohibitive.

This place is a excellent, condensed example of what happened to the country after socialism. If something couldn't be sold to an oligarch, then it was just simply abandoned. Its idiotic that a place like this, considering how interesting it is, and how beautiful the location is, would be simply abandoned.

As a Romanian, am not sure wtf we doing with the "house of the people". Maybe we should let it go to waste. Its certainly bigger and more expensive. But not as beautiful as this place.

This reaffirms the ignorance and fanaticism of humans, in general. Whatever the origin of the monument, the ideology and symbolism, it shows the human capacity to undertake the construction of the monument, all over the world these are admired, the Colosseum in Rome, the Parthenon in Athens, the Great Wall of China, all of these they reflect man's ability to create great works in community to show the presence and intelligence of the human being, although this almost always clashes with the ignorance and barbarism of a good part of this human society...
Albert Einstein said it a long time ago: There are two infinite things, human stupidity and the Universe, although I am not completely sure about the latter...
