Yes!! I love his Orpheus, and I cannot fathom why some people do not. He's so incredible live (and so sweet and dorky in person too, I was too hyper to remember most of my stage door experience but oh boy I sure do love him)

@@Zzzk23 Yes, I was quite out of it and I kinda blanked in front of him. I can't remember what I said to him, just that it was more than the generic "OH I love you, you were great" and hopefully nothing too creepy. But I did remember to get a picture with him! 66.media.tumblr.com/8b766269d13c6353e285642f1d580990/tumblr_pquxvuXkIZ1tui43so7_1280.jpg

I personally saw him at the national as Orpheus and thought his vocal performance and acting didn't deliver the motive for his actions, however I thought part of that was also down to the direction (e.g when Orpheus and eurediche were singing how they didn't want to let each other go they were constantly running away from each other on the stage). That said, I did enjoy the whole play and I love this song.

2:46 Okay, this is one of my favourite additions to the score since they started developing it. The melody from "Doubt Comes In" threaded through the accompaniment as the Fates try to sow doubt in Orpheus's mind and turn him back is a wonderful touch. And then actually dramatising the moment when he sings his song to get through the River Styx not only adds so much to his character, it's so moving. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

@@bencrawford9320 "What actually disappears" you ask? Eurydice disappears- oh wait no wrong song huh. (Sorry, I had to). Okay SERIOUS STAGING SPOILERS FOLLOW. ////////
Basically after "well, that's a start", all of the lights turn off except for the spotlight on Orpheus and Hermes (I think some ensemble/orchestra/background lights were on too, but they weren't the focus, if that makes sense). then the Workers Chorus comes out on the turntables with their headlamps and they're "walking" behind Orpheus - not actually walking, but walking in place on the turntable so that it appears as if they're moving. During the chorus/refrain the lamps come done from ceilings surrounding Orph, and then the light gets REALLY bright (I was sitting in the mid-front orchestra and went blind for a few seconds, and in the few seconds that I went blind the Fates showed up). Then near the end -- during the "La la la la la..." bit before "you're on the lam youre on the run" if I remember correctly -- more lights come up on the ceiling and the industrial world of Hadestown appears on stage - like it comes up from below the ground, I think, but someone else can feel free to correct me, because it was A LOT to take in and I sadly can't remember it perfectly. Eventually it kinda calms down a bit, with the lights going dim again except for the swinging lights and the workers lamps, and then at the end all of the lights point to Orph. And then at the very end all of the lights go out again. It's A LOT and my description could never ever do it justice. Hopefully I'll get to see it again and this time I'll sit in the mezz to have a different view! But gods if Bradley King does not win the tony for best lighting I am literally going to riot at dawn.

I agree it's great, but I for one have a hard time trying to figure out the right chords by ear, and how to play it with the same intensity as it is orchestrated with. Hopefully, this will be cleared up when they finally release the sheet music for this show, Same with Why We Build the Wall(hoping that the sheet music is a Singer/Pro rendition, not just the melody and basic chords molded together).

In Greek mythology, Hermes was kind of a person who helped the recently departed into the underworld. I think it's a nice little reference to Hermes helping Orpheus into Hades town since that was probably the old way before the train came along

This time, when the Fates come to spread doubt, he sings alone and the entire world sings back to him. He is not alone; how could anyone even think he is when the very stones sing back to him? He sings a song so beautiful the rocks melt and they let him in, and he can sing them home again.
The next time, he sings alongside the world and they all-but *scream* back at him, but he can't hear them. He's too stuck inside his own head to hear the music of the spheres, for what might be the first time in his life. The insistence by some of the production that Orpheus and the Fates go back and forth a few times when they were working on this story really did improve it.

my favorite thing about Wait for Me, since the first time I heard it in it's less famous days is that Orpheus says "I'm coming with you." Meaning, even if he has to be in hell to be with her, he would. He would die for her, but whatever happens he will not leave her or force her to come with him.

What Ilike the most from this particular musical is that there's different versions of the same story. It's like actual myths we tell throughout time; there's always a different version of it (The myth of Hades and Persephone meeting, the generic urban myths, etc). That little aspect of it makes me love Hadestown that much more than I already do :)

i am so conflicted about reeve carney. i feel like singing is really hard for him, like he really struggles to reach all the notes. it is kind of awkward to listen to. however, he also sounds so genuine and has a pleasant tone. plus he is hot, so there is that.

I KNOW! My favorite line is the third Fate's solo because it fits quite nicely in my range, and I LOVE it when women get to hit low notes because altos and women tenors and basses are underapreciated, but that's just me. ;)
