Y' know, the more we hear voice of Eurydice the less we hear Orpheus. It's like the more stronger and more confident she becomes the more doubts he has. So sad
Honestly, from what I’ve seen that’s kinda what’s happening. He was the one with all the faith and hope, but then the trip changed him. Just when she needed him to be endlessly hopeful and trusting he isn’t and she is.
@@taylarolympia2202 Wait for Me for Orpheus is to psych himself up for the conviction to push through the trip to get to Eurydice. The reprise, it's triumphant for Eurydice. It makes sense though. Eurydice has no reason to mistrust Hades. He gave her exactly what she bargained for. It's just not what made her happy. He sings Epic III literally as the "you get one last song and then I destroy you" ultimatum, gets beaten up, threatened, and takes away a darker point of view. If we go with the story structure of Thesis, Antithesis, and Synthesis for character arcs, Eurydice reaches synthesis, while Orpheus doesn't, and that's what makes the tragedy. Every single member of this cast is phenomenal, and I'm so happy to see them showcasing other character, but can we take a moment to talk about Reeve's five seconds of singing? When you think about this moment within the context of the show, Orpheus already had Is It True and Epic III to take out breath away. He's already lit the flame and started the revolution. He's shared his song and now is the moment for him to step back and let the rocks and stones of Hadestown echo it. After seeing him absolutely SLAY Wait For Me with so much feeling and power, there's something really special about the softness he has in the reprise. Eva's vocals are meant to shine in this number, and they hecking do. I think letting her overpower him 00:21-00:38 is a wonderful choice that really works with the emotion of the song. He sings in a lower key with a breathiness that really contrasts against his whole "la la la" thing. When he sings "for me" after turning to Eurydice at 00:32 it's so soft and almost intimate it really feels like he's tired and hopeful all at once. A stunning example of when it's more impactful to hold back than to go big.
This is also narratively significant. Up to this point orpheus was always the confident one, the one who has hope, the one who saw the world the way it could be. For the first time in this show eurydice takes that role, because orpheus finally saw the world for what it is and is starting to have doubt. The roles have switched.

Going to see them perform in a few months and I cant wait!! Gives me chills evertime I listen to it!
Every time I hear something from this show I want to cry. I hope I’ll be able to see it live one day.
i watch this performance at least twice a day lmao
they sang the first line and I'm already crying!!! The power this cast holds is mind blowing.
하데스타운 너무 그립다 진짜 지루할 틈이 없는데!!!
