Nicely explained. Definitely feel more confident about fixing the trellis to the wall after watching Craig.

Fixed 4 trellis in 90 minutes including waiting for my screwdriver to charge and a cuppa.
Nicely explained and it all worked.
    cheers

Saw other videos which state you shouldn't have trellis against the wall. Instead it should secured using timber off stands so whatever is growing has enough space between the trellis and the wall.

I agree. This one looks like the trellis part is actually off the wall already.

Thank you for posting that info, it is very helpful, but, how do I work out how long my screws have to be and which diameter drill bit and rawlplug, I want to fix some lengths of 35x35 mm timber to brickwork so that I can support a foot high trellis to run along the top of the wall.....I have worked out how to do the job, I just want to know how long the screws need to be to support 35mmx35mm timber to a London brick wall. Thanks.

Normally you would use a screw at least twice the depth of the wood, so 70mm long screw would work fine, holes drilled with a 6mm masonry drill bit, 6mm red raw plugs, then a 5mm screw would work well.

    Hi Craig
I’m a lady here 😂, my friend lent me a drill box , with silver and gold drill bits , which one is the masonry drillbit please ? I’m guessing it’s the gold one?

Masonry drill bits have a spade shaped tip for drilling into concrete and brickwork. Hope that helps.

So you are not leaving space behind the trellis?

Please help. I have a PVC trellis I'd like to install. How do I make a gap between wall and the PVC and how would I attach to wall?

That's a novel use of a toolbox, Craig. First as saw horses to set the trellis while you drilled in a pilot hole and then as a step ladder, while you hung the trellis on the wall. Seems a bit unstable to me, but you're the pro.

Carol Ondrey a lot of toolboxes are designed to double up as steps these days.

This type of project has been a real hit with woodworkers all around, thanks! BTW if you didn't know Hyezmar released his Woodworking Bible at no cost, he's just looking for feedback.

How come? This is a fairly heavy bit of wood that may have heavy branches on it. I wouldn't be happy with the mortar holding that weight.

Must get a screw driver for our drill. Useful if you hall pain in the joints.

Does H&S approve using a toolbox as a stepstool? Great vid otherwise.
