  • This is our reaction to watching Samurai Groove from the Kari Band for the first time. The Kari Band are members of Babymetal's backing band.

Hey, Joel. Fun video. It sounded like Patrick could neither confirm nor deny the real identities of the Kamis. 😆 Just one more correction. 😉 Kari Band was founded by three Kami Band members: Mikio Fujioka (guitar), BOH (bass), and Yuya Maeta (drums). Yuya, not to be confused with Hideki Aoyama (the most frequent Kami drummer), only drummed for Babymetal in 2014, but he still counts and is well loved. Mikio died before this video was filmed, however, so the guitarist you saw in this video is one of his students Satoshi Oka. Satoshi has never played for Babymetal and is a guest musician for Kari Band.

Great stuff. Geoffrey Plauché has already explained who they all are. I think Yuya Maeta was on drums with the Kami Band when they toured with the Red Hot Chilli Pepper.

      First I found was this:
      Kami Band at Washington DC:
      BOH
      Mikio
      Leda
      Shuntarou Kado
I think Yuya might have been the very first God of Drums.

Actually this Kari band video is after Mikio died.. Only bassist BOH has been a steady Kami band member. The drummer Yuya Maeta, was a drummer in 2014 for BM. Those 3 guys are Kari Band.. The guitarist here is Satoshi Oka, who was a student of Mikio Fujioka. When (years) did you friend roadie for Babymetal??. Didn't catch that.

Few people realize how many session players have played as the Kamiband .... Someone made a RUclips vid listing them all, and it was eye opening, since I didn't know another of my fave groups Unlucky Morpheous had a few players on the list....🤘🦊🤘

Nice reaction. The Kariband stuff is a lot of fun to listen to and watch. The talent and skill level are amazing. Which just makes me wish they would become part of Babymetal already. So, we can see them perform this stuff on the big stages Babymetal uses. It would a killer to have them do one of these songs as an intro to a Babymetal song. It may not be hard core metal. But that's cool as all can be. See You

Maybe they can open for them someday. It wouldn't be the first time a band took the stage twice with a different name. Tenacious D, for instance, had Wynchester as their opener, and both members are part of the Tenacious D backing band.

You were not totally wrong, the only main Kami Band member in that video is Boh. But the drummer has played some gigs at some point too long ago.

Well your wrong again Joel. =) Only 2 members of the Kami band were in this video. Yuya Maeta (drummer) and BOH. The guitar player is actually Mikio's (former Kami band member) student Satoshi Oka.

You should checkout The Hill of Wisteria for an "all-Babymetal" lineup.

I hear Satoshi play and the Mikio influence is STRONG with that one. But yeah, Hill of Wisteria would be the Kari band song to check out. Too bad the Ohmura tribute version was taken down off RUclips. The agony of grief on Ohmura's face as he plays Mikio's guitar is heartbreaking and tells you everything you need to know about both men. You can only find a lower quality version under the title "Takayoshi Homura...Homenaje a Mikio Fujiota ". Otherwise just go with the video titled "BM KAMI Band playing Instrumental song." The later of those is the full Kami Band. The first of them is missing Mikio, who had passed away, although they mix in his guitar from prior performances.

At about 4:30 it looks like Yuya is giving BOH the side-eye.😂
BOH likes to joke that because Sheehan and Wooten were early influences that he didn't know one wasn't supposed to play bass like that.

If he was roadie during US tour wouldn't it have been Western Kami-Band?

Depends on the year. Babymetal didn't have the west Kamiband for their first two album tours.

Also the East kamiband did the Japan shows for the 3rd album.

      @@stevechevy3382 That’s right.
Except for the ‘LEGEND - METAL GALAXY’ shows in Japan that had both the Eastern and the Western Kamis.
