  • 📍TORONTO 🇨🇦 PEACEFUL PROTEST THIS WEEKEND! Andre Yeu from When Hounds Fly Dog Training went on CBC Toronto to discuss “Dog Daddy” Augusto DeOliveira, who is bringing his dangerous and problematic training methods to Toronto on Saturday (Sep 2) and Sunday (Sep 3).
Stay tuned, follow our Instagram for all kinds of updates you’re not getting here: / zakgeorge
If you’re in Toronto follow / angelkerrdogtraining for on the ground info about peaceful protests in Toronto!
Local trainers in Toronto are planning to peacefully demonstrate and raise awareness about ethical, modern, evidence-backed dog training methods that effectively address all types of issues (including severe aggression and fear).
DOG DADDY FANS! I am genuinely glad to have you here. If you have questions or concerns please feel free to let me know in the comments! I also made a video just for you to explain in detail what our issues with Augusto’s methods are, and why. You can see it here: • For Fans of Dog Daddy ...
Remember, education is the key to change. By highlighting what's wrong with such methods, we can guide those who might be misinformed towards humane, effective, and scientifically supported methods instead. If we stay silent, we risk allowing these seriously harmful, dangerous and unnecessary techniques to spread further without being challenged.
Our goal is not to attack an individual, but to empower people with the right information so they’re fully ready to make informed decisions for the well-being of themselves and their dogs.
For those who would like to peacefully protest his methods, or to be available to kindly try to educate his followers about the issues surrounding the methods Augusto promotes, I encourage you to show up at as many of his events as possible and demonstrate peacefully and nonviolently.

I would trust this man, Dog Daddy’ before any trainer period. I’m so tired of hearing about this man being under fire for helping dog’s owners and the the animal. These “professionals” I have seen literally walk away from highly aggressive dogs and refuse to help them. So yes, all these “professionals “ and their hotdogs should be under the microscope as well. You going to keep treats in your pocket everywhere you go to fatten your dog up and distract them for a moment for them to act a fool and do this for more “treats”? Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.

Dogs with genuine severe aggression should be put down, in my opinion. I don't blame him for not attempting to fix extreme issues like that. Edit: I don't take back my comment, but I did read your comment as if you were coming from the perspective of a balanced trainer, as many of these comments are. My response was geared more towards that rather than the average person simply asking a question. There are many dog trainers other than Zak George who do work with aggression though, my favorite being Michael Shikashio. He does have a few videos on his RUclips channel I'm pretty sure, if you want to check that out. As another commenter in this thread has brought to my attention, my comment may have sounded insensitive, and if that is the case then I'm sorry. I have dealt with severe aggression in my own dog, and I know the difficult decisions that many other owners can face with how to move forward. Still, I believe that in GENUINE (meaning: un-fixable in a humane way) severe cases, dogs should be put down, but that is just my opinion and only a decision that you can make.

@@OneDay38104 does the same go for unforgiving, aggressive humans? If your answer is yes, then by your own logic, you should probably make an appointment with the green mile.
What a horrible, insensitive thing to say. These dogs aren't just pets or house guards to some people. They are important members of the family. And when a family member is ill in some capacity, you do whatever you have to to get them well again. They do this because they love their family. So when an insensitive internet troll pops up with the suggestion to just k*ll them off, it causes more upset that brings no one any closer to a solution to this conflict.

@@OneDay38104 You don't know what you're talking about. Who is to decide which dog should be killed? Zak? His theory that a dog trainer must not be bitten is absolutely naive and pointless. This often happens, and after balanced training, even such dogs can lead a good life in their environment.

    • @OneDay38104
      @OneDay38104 8 месяцев назад

I don't know what I'm talking about? In what way? I was mostly referring to personal experience. It is of my opinion that truly dangerous dogs should be put down if they cannot be rehabilitated humanely (and even that's risky). I'm not stating some kind of fact here that can be debunked. To answer your question, the owners of the dangerous dog should make the choice to put the dog down, not a trainer. I also am not under the idea that a dog trainer can not be bit; it could absolutely happen, but if you do your job correctly the dog should never really be pushed to that point. Of course, there's human fallibility and we can never understand a dog 100%, so even people who are doing their best may still get bit. I am well aware of the many dogs that are living good lives now after balanced training. Mine did not. Still, I see moral issues with the way most balanced training is done, especially in the style of DD. @@painted_in_thick

I have a Rottweiler and when he was young, I literally tried everything that I knew of to train him until I finally took him to the professionals and they used a choke collar. They are a family owned business and have been in business for over 30 years. They breed and train German Shepherds for Law Enforcement. I have no issues with choke collars. You do what works for your pet. Not all pets will react the same way with positive reinforcement. These people who are against choke collars should put up some videos of them training aggressive dogs with positive re-enforcement. Good luck with that.

I can’t tell you how beautiful to see the owner working with their dogs without any problem, after 2 or 3 sessions. • @ImurTuta
      @ImurTuta 10 месяцев назад +20

No one here has said to use positive reinforcement when a dog is attacking you. If you want to split hairs...if a dog is TRYING to attack you (or rip your face off) then I would assume that the dog would be attacking you, if it physically could. Since the dog is TRYING but can't , then you would give the dog as much space as you can. Make certain you feed/water the dog multiple times a day. A trick I use is to break the dogs daily food up into 4 or 5 meals so I can increase the number of positive interactions per day. Over time the dog will begin to feel more comfortable around you and this is when you can reduce the amount of personal space you give the dog by just a little bit, but more and more each time. In my experience these dogs tend to be the most loyal and thankful pets once you have won their trust.

Anyone else seen such a thing?? Bet not.
The people that are spreading this negative, misinformation about DD, are repeating crap that bleeding heart liberals, PETA, activists- people that don't discipline their children or pets and will be facing cry babies who think they always get their way, do what they want with no consequences or punishment and their dogs usually bark at everything for no reason, piss on the floor when startled, yelps if you happen to pull a couple of their hairs and cowers and pees if they get excited or scared when the doorbell rings!!!
Can bad shit happen to a dog sometime when thousands of dogs are handled? Sure, but not from this more forceful, specific training that DD uses. What I see is fear aggression. He makes them face their fear of people/ strangers . Once he does, that dog totally chills, you can see by body language if you are a real dog trainer. Tail up, walking around happy, taking food, being petted! That is a changed dog.
Also I see that he is not whipping the dogs around like Zak states. He is holding on, moving quickly to avoid bites.
You dont think owners are chocking them ( not intentionally) but their dog pulls so hard to try to kill someone.
He normally has muzzles on for safety but they can come off and he has to be prepared. I have never seen him get bit. Victoria Stillwell, Cesar Millian...most trainers get bit sometime in their career.

I have seen shelter dogs transform. Most aggression in dogs comes from fear, based on abusive training practices and misunderstanding dogs. What I saw from that clup was a terrified and suffering Doberman. I adopted a beautiful Doberman who had shut down from abusive training he was able to blossom into a happy, confident and friendly dog. It's worth considering how people respond to abuse compared to encouragement, and how our interactions with people and dogs can change and be updated.

I am not saying that Dog Daddy has the best methods, but most who go to those methods have already tried other dog trainers. My biggest concern with this crusade is where will it end? There are several examples of balanced trainers on youtube, such as upstate canine academy, Beckmans Dog training, and Will Atherton. Are they also to be canceled? And what will happen to the dogs with aggression when the only tools are treats and medication? Owners with problem dogs will simply give up and put them down or surrender them.

@@olieboer lol after this BS tirade and all the controversy, Zak George has shot himself in the foot, my experience in life is that any form of attention negative or positive is exposure, that exposure leads to more case work which will further expose the gap and training levels between the two individuals. Again because this is a very divisive subject but you have other great trainers like Robert Cabral and Ivan who don't stand with Zak either, saying that positive only training is lacking in some aspects. Dog training needs to have a balance. When done correctly it's 90 percent positive and 10 percent corrections or even less because you have brought about a solid foundation, relationship and understanding with the animal in question but by removing the corrections for manipulation tactics which is basically what positive only training is, eventually the dog knows exactly what you are doing and that will turn into aggression later down the line. So if we see a behaviour we do not like that would potentially be dangerous for anything, anyone, the dog itself, the handler etc. we are able to deal with it work through it immediately as opposed to misdirection, manipulation and redirecting the attention. I do about 80% positive reinforcement, 15% negative punishment and 5% positive punishment. Meaning I mostly reward, sometimes take something away as part of the training. And rarely punish. When I do punish, it is something as simple as a snap of my fingers or a verbal correction. No yanking, hitting, startling and so on.
My dog is a young unneutered male that has better recall than any other dog I know. His loose leash walking is very good (walking or running next to a bike), and he is kind and laid back with other dogs and people. It shows me that it is at least possible to train your dog to behave great without aversive methods. But my one single dog is no study or proof that only positive reinforcement works. I 100% get that I have a mild tempered dog from an easy breed and had the luxury of training him since he was a puppy.
And that is where the biggest problem lies with positive reinforcement in my experience. Not all dogs and trainers are in this optimal situation. Where they can socialize and train and immediately address bad behaviors as a dog grows up. The main problem that positive reinforcement people need to acknowledge is that they provide too few options for dogs with consistently repeated aggressive or otherwise worrying behavior that needs to be addressed with urgency. That is why the balanced approach people get so much attention in my opinion.
I say this as someone who uses positive methods himself. But also as someone who has seen a ton of the content that is uploaded from both sides of the argument: When it comes to aggressive dogs and extreme situations, you can't tell people what not to do without giving them a convincing viable alternative.

Dogs can turn perpetually aggressive for many reasons. Could be they were taken from their mother to early. Could be they were with somebody before who didn't take good care of them and abused them daily for no reason at all.
I'm also reminded of many cases I saw Cesar Milan work on. He would remove aggressive dogs from their owners and the dog would be fine around his own pack of dogs. Then once the owner returned to the side of the dog, it aggressively attacked those other dogs. This happened in so many cases he had.
This is why it's key to be a good leader to your dog. Aggressive dogs are often that way cause their owners are weak and scared themselves so the dog feels the ongoing need to protect them and itself against everything. This is also why DD works directly with the owners to show them how to provide good leadership for their dogs so they don't just return to their aggressive ways after DD has desensitized them and brought them to a balanced state of mind.

But I'm slowly getting him around dogs. Zak I am also of the mindset you should have a series of training aggressive dogs. It’s a process as we all know. I am not a positive only trainer. I do balance training, though I heavily lean into rewards. I think this man is unhinged and live with a human aggressive dog. This is NOT how I intergraded him into my house hold which includes 3 children. It took a long time and required a lot of management to keep everyone safe. My dog is now 3 and is primary handler in obedience by my youngest child. He’s thriving where as when he came to me at 6 months old he was on his way to be euthanized for his bite history. He’s a great dog who requires time and patience to allow him to work through his deep rooted issues. It’s pretty sad when they are that young and that problematic.
I’d love to see a long term training plan of how you’d go about training dogs who display a more extreme level of aggression. People need to realize to actually change an emotional response does take time. It isn’t a one and done.
However, I would love to see you engage in a conversation with someone like Robert Cabral. I think you both have more in common than differences and I think if you engaged in a dialogue it would be helpful to at least have a professional discussion with another big influence in dog training. It’s important to interact with others, even if they aren’t fully aligned with your own way od training.

This is the most ridiculous piece of propaganda. I went to a Dog Daddy training in San Francisco. Augusto is a gifted trainer that helps so many dogs and people get their lives back. I want to see one video where one of these trainers that complain about Dog Daddy manages to truly help an aggressive dog. Aggressive dogs exist, they put people at risk. Their owners love them and want to be able to move through the world with them. Watch that video on Dog Daddy's channel. He doesn't give up on this dog. By the end of the video the dog is calm and in his lap and begging for pets from him. The dog isn't harmed or broken, he gives a broken dog a new way to be in the world. Augusto is passionate about dogs and about teaching people how to communicate with them. He is truly gifted at what he does.
This hit piece has some agenda...

It is training. They have trained dogs.
And a news flash for you: they would be the first to adopt positive reinforcement only training. Not because of a hypocrisy and fundamentalism like you do, but because of efficiency and results.
You see, we must first develop a strong dog character, who is capable of going through hardships of police and army work. And then we must control it.
Through control we lose some of this strength.
And that is the reason we would already all train positive only. In fact, more than 95% of our interactions with our dogs is positive reinforcement.

So……are you basing this off video clips or have you actually been to one Dog Daddy’s training sessions and seen one from beginning to end. The reason I’m asking is because I just watched a few of his training videos and realized that he wasn’t “yanking” the dog as you mentioned, but these dogs come to him literally lunging at him. Not sure how anyone else would react to a dog their holding on a leash trying to bite them (especially a dog with a powerful bite force). I know of a Rottweiler who was poorly socialized and reacts this way to everyone he sees (even babies/children) and he will bite - make no mistake. So I’m wondering if these clips that people are commenting on look worse than they are. There are people out there dealing with real issues with dogs that have been mistreated and need rehab. There is a population of people that some dog trainers are NOT helping and people just need help with. Many are rehoming and taking in dogs with history and want to save a dogs life. There are lots of people who abuse dogs - backyard breeders do it in droves - for example. It would be great to get these shut down with protesters. Is there a way to talk about all of this holistically instead of going after one person only. Just feels like a witch hunt when this is a larger issue to address. I’m not saying I agree with Dog Daddy’s methods because I’ve never seen them in person and am not one of his customers, but I do know there are dogs that are being euthanized or sent to shelters because of the issues they have. I would rather see you focusing on that. This doesn’t feel like a positive way to solve a problem. Sure you can shut Dog Daddy down, but are you solving the problem???

@@jennr1787 You must not have watched through many videos then or you're just completely lying which is more likely the case. He rarely uses prong collars and while working with aggressive dogs, never uses them. Just uses a slip lead.
The prong collar is just used in cases of basic walking in the heel position and when properly used, works great for that specific thing. The good thing about it is not much pressure has to be applied if you know what you're doing. It's just a flick of the wrist to redirect. When used properly, will not hurt the dog in the least bit, just have to keep it high up on the neck and ensure it is fitted properly.
It is actually far safer than a flat collar. Often see dogs dragging their owners on walks and the flat collar lays lower on their necks whereas it's choking them all along the way.
He also never bullies dogs, just lets them act out and desensitizes them. Never more than a quick little correction here or there which is not how bullying is defined but people like you not looking to be honest, just hateful.
In every video I've seen he has the dogs responding to his commands and even taking treats from him so, again, that nonsense about them being in fear and shut down is just lies from haters. The opposite is actually true as many of the aggression in the dogs comes from fear and it is that fear he is desensitizing them from.

Dog Daddy is not abusive!!! He is not hitting them, he is not hurting them or anything. These dogs that he's helping are trying to attack them, he's helping their confidence by showing them he's in control, he's establishing their human as an alpha so they can follow them and the dog wont feel the meed of being aggressive and try to attack in order to feel safe around other people or dogs. He's only handling the keash and touching a tickekish spot in their back leg in order to take their attention away from what they're barking at.
