Thing is Cody has great range, he says he doesn’t have to turn heel but we all know if he does I honestly believe the honelander comparison would be great. Like Cody still acts like a face and smiles but you can see in his eyes when something is bugging him, maybe later he can start to convince everyone that we need him to be champ we needed him to save us from the bloodline, we needed him to finish the story. Some bs lol

To add on to this, I saw somebody say he should turn heel in Cody vs Roman III by cheating to keep the title. His justification is that he’s saving us from another Tribal Chief title reign & that’s when the Codylander character is born.

We actually need more heels. Aside from the Rock, Drew, and Gunther, there are no threatening/competent heels. You could maybe add Liv? But for me, she hasn’t wrestled enough to feel like the threat Rhea was.

The Cena heel comment was always dumb to me. Sure you're a heel "in their eyes" already, but the request to flipping comes from being stale or stagnant.
I don't think it's fair for longtime viewers to be subject to characters that don't developed or show range when they're in prominent spots for multiple years.
Thats true, but it is also true that a lot of us love to boo the face. They are our heels. Not all, but the cleaner they are, the more we boo. That said, Cody takes it way old school and thats funny. Cant boo it yet.

Stone cold has been the same since inception. The rock largely didn’t change for a decade. Hogan hasn’t changed since mania 18. And in some cases people dislike change, like with Kane. So I don’t think every gimmick gets stale

You know, I can understand why he doens't want to be a heel. Make-a-Wish, kids, adults, dreams, that is all part of being a babyface, and I really respect that. I was part of the group of people who root for Cody's winning championship during the last two years. But since I saw the podcast of the Undertaker I can see an amazing Heel turn for Cody...oh yes. We've got some points here:
- He's already the American "Nightmare" (and he's a babyface)
- He win the championship but there are a lot of fans who don't appreciate that
- He's already trying to convince people he's a good babyface.
And I get Triple H, and I get the fans, as Cody and you Chris. But oh man, if he ever do a character similar to Homelander (with limits of course) that would be amazing...absolutely. But it would take time, now we have more heels than ever, and we really need him as babyface. Who knows. But good points Cody and Chris, great interview!
There are folks who have learned absolutely nothing from Cena's 2010's run.
Cody is the new Cena. He’s Hogan. He’s Backlund. He’s Rey Mysterio. He’s STING. He’s the new white meat babyface that does things the right way and represents the company. That’s what he always wanted to be and he is that now. Turning heel makes zero sense in the immediate future for Cody, who just dethroned the biggest heel in the world.

There’s something to be said for choosing to be a “good guy” and staying with it without getting stale or boring. I love a good heel turn but some guys don’t really need it. Cody is one of them.

Cody spent his entire career in WWE up until he left as a “heel” in more ways than one. There’s zero push for him to turn heel and if ever did again, it would have to be a damn good reason.
The heel turn will be fucking epic but not yet.
I'd say that's just fine if he wants to stay the way he is...but one day very soon, Roman is coming back. Cody will have to compete with him for that top guy shine all over again.

Cody doesn't need to turn heel right now, but maybe when he loses the title, he should definitely turn heel. His heel work in ROH, NJPW, and the indies was amazing, especially his heel run in Bullet Club.

Plus Cena didn't start getting the love till he went away and people knew he was no longer full time. If you are going to hog the storytelling, you have to be willing to tell multiple stories. not the same one over and over.

I came back to wrestling because Cody came back to the WWE. I hadn't watched in so many years.
Don't want it right now, but down the line, a Cody heel turn would be great. And really just because he's been great at it before, but now he's at an elevated level.
Big difference between Rhodes and Cena. Cena was a phony company man who rarely helped push someone while going around saying that everything he did was for the business (bullshit).

He’s making way too much profit, perfect PR rep, to turn heel right now would be dumb, business wise. I personally wish his character had more grit like he had in his runs outside of WWE. But I absolutely respect his rhetoric. Don’t change yourself because some people don’t like how you do you. Roman Reigns has cool appeal (apparel, character, charisma, ability) but let’s not act like his championship run didn’t have some stale moments here and there. Unfortunately for Cody, his run being after Roman’s with his type of swagger is rubbing some fans the wrong way, but they’ll get over it.
If Cody turned heel I’d imagine it going the Drew McIntyre route… Someone who genuinely believes that he’s right and doing it for the fans but the way your going about it is turning people away
Cody will have a heel run one day right now his character needs to be a face to add value to the champion that holds the Undisputed WWE title.
Roman established the title, but due to the lack of his presence, the presence of the champion needs to restore on Smackdown.
It’s not the same as Cena though cause that was alot of fans growing stale with him as this constant babyface , I just think a lot of people would think it’d be cool if Cody eventually turned heel again as he’s a phenomenal bad guy people forget how good he was as a villain whether it be undashing cody or the mustache era he’s easily dislikable as those characters

Cody is young enough that he could turn heel in years down the road. But I really hope its a while from now.
When Cody turns heel (not anytime soon), he should make a complete turn. Go back to having black hair, grow a beard, change from red/white/blue gear to all black, etc. Become a complete opposite character than face Cody instead of a bad version of who he already is. Heel turns like this are the best.
Heels can still do make a wish and such. Randy has, Roman has, Rhea has done stuff. Depends on the person. Undertaker never did, but that wasn't cause he was a "heel" was cause he didn't break character. Undertaker at a make a wish wouldn't work.

Being a heel is something that has to be a part of your personality… Good example of this is Bradshaw / JBL… He was a jock and a bully in real life, so being a heel comes naturally to him
It's not his character but the situation he could be in. He's the biggest babyface as of now. The bloodline storyline no longer applies to Jey Uso and Samy; hence, their babyface status are lower than Cody's.
We don't know if Roman is gonna comeback working full time. He has the highest potential to turn babyface more than Cody. But it's too soon. The current Bloodline haven't cause major destruction yet.

...Cena was a heel when he got hot. Like a lot of guys who were heels at their start and then became the faces of the company. "hes been heel before" doesnt mean anything.

He probably can't be a heel. Undertaker and Stone Cold are prime examples of wrestlers who can't be heels because we're still gonna cheer for them. Cody has that same aura. I could be wrong though. Cody is so beloved and over I just can't see him turning ppl against him lol
you can do some great character work as a heel but obviously its inherently way cooler to be a face than a heel. if you can be a successful top level face (which few can) that's going to portrayed be heroic, badass and courageous over being the immoral villain that's often going to act like a coward and run away from challenges, rely on outside interference and cheating to win like a bitch ... of course you choose being the Face. the thing is its much harder to be a face than a heel and thats why many wrestlers prefer working as heels. Being a face requires more substance and being more skillful in every facet in a way that being a heel doesn't. Anyone can go out there and do the typical heel shit, shit talk the crowd/city and play dirty against the fan favorite. its easier to get a negative reaction than a positive reaction. There's less pressure on heels than faces. Being a succesful face requires more charisma, it requires better promos, it requires better in ring work, better entrances etc. if im the head of a promotion and my talent had to stay as either face or heel i want my most charismatic and best in ring workers to be the faces opposed to heels because that's riding with the waves and not against it.
