THANK YOU so much Banjo Ben for giving the gust of putting BOTH strap buttons on my beloved bass. I did everything you showed us, plus waxing both screws, and the result is just fantastic. Really proud of believing in you! Play and let play. Cheers, mate!

You want to put a piece of tape around the drill bit at the point where you want to stop drilling - a "depth stop" if you will. Drilling too deep is not good.

My tech installed my parlor guitar strap lock on the back of the heel facing me. And I find that my strap constantly slips off with it in this position. And feels uncomfortable. I wanted the hole on the side as you are demonstrating. Can I get a tech to drill another hole on the side of the heel and remove the first strap lock? Will that little empty hole cause problems if I remove the strap lock that’s facing me?

Tks , interesting sharing. I allow mysel a somewhat peripherical question ; I have -according to my standards- an expensive guitar (Breedlove circa 1500$), and I don't see myself making a hole in it. There is a button, but quite big, because it's also the jack input. And, there is only really a tiny groove to lay the strap (hope it makes sense, I am French). I think I am going to make bigger the hole of some ordinary strap, but I am not so happy with it. WOuld someone have an idea? Thank you .

No need to drill to screw in a strap button - if it should be there it would have been fitted by the manufacturer. The recommended location for the other end of the strap is at the top of the fret neck below where the strings are fitted secured with what looks Iike a shoe lace
