I really liked this one. Being comfortable with uncertainty is a sign of wisdom. I'm proud of the times I turned back or didnt go. If it feels weird, thats all I need to know. Some nice sailing in there too, beautiful. Respect : )
Thanks Steve! Yeah I think heading into land to anchor was the right call. Nothing went wrong and I don’t know if I’d be able to say that if I had stayed out. And I definitely agree, as I’ve learned more and become a semi competent sailor I’ve been able to go into the unknown with a little less stress around it. I trust my vessel and I trust myself to handle her
Nelly LOVED your shout out. He put his snoot in the screen. Totally forgot Moitessier threw the wine overboard. Now I question if he was even French. I more dug the part where he was pegging passing ships with the 35 mm canisters of film with a wrist rocket slingshot to give updates on his position, pictures and what not.
I rarely end up where I try too haha It’s sitting on the cockpit sole. I need to put some hinges on it. It’s a pain to get on and off so I only put it on if I’m going offshore and know I’ll be stuffing the bow in some waves
@sailingdijan9128 oh you’re way up in there! Did you go in at Jacksonville and then head all the way through? I just looked on a map, I had no clue you could get all the way in there. Great for hurricane season! I’ll probably head into st Mary’s and fry to find work at a boat yard.
I have 90ft of chain and then a bunch of rope. Usually don’t anchor in more than 10 ft so just put out the chain. I’ve never had a chafing issue when I put out rope. Even with just chain out I would still move if it was against coral. The beautiful thing about the Bahamas is you can see your anchor and rode because the water’s so clear. On my last boat I had 60ft of chains but always put out 100ft or 120ft. That’s where my chafing gear was (fire hose) and with such a small boat I didn’t care about putting extra out because it was easy to pull in. The only time I ever anchor near coral is when I want to dive a reef without dropping the dink in which case I anchor upwind and drift back until the sailboat is over it. Nice to snorkel right off the back
It’s illegal in the bahamas but you’ll definitely see it everywhere. I would never partake in the devils lettuce, I’m a serious sailor who does everything by the book 😂
Eitan, great happy go lucky attitude. Sure wish i could convince you to not try anchoring sea grass as it is a nursery ecosystem and turtle feeding grounds, The motor boats do way to too much damage to this precious ecosystem as it is, Jim Rodgers
It was really hard to find anything but sea grass in the abacos which made anchoring difficult. My Manson supreme anchor doesn’t really work in grass anywho. But I ended up only dropping on grass twice all season. Usually there’s were little sand patches mixed in. Even then the chain would still lay across the grass which I didn’t like. I’m with you, we need to do better about protecting the ecosystem. I try to minimize my impact as best I can

Haha aww Nelly!😍
When I catch up to you guys we should totally get slingshots! VHF’s are lame 🤣
Beautiful footage. Thank you Trout
Thanks Liz!
My favorite sailing channel.
Thanks!
Looking good. I can’t wait to sail in the Bahamas!
Nothing better than the island life, fair winds!
Sailing is like life, there is the planned destination and there is where you end up. Umm, Trout where is the anchor locker hatch?

Dig it. Welcome Home Trout
Thanks! 🤘
Another great video
Thanks man🤘
Bahahaha!
" Does it count as drinking and driving if you have autopilot?"
Nope!
I agree 😂
Another great video! Assuming staying here in Florida
Thanks! I’m in west palm at the moment but getting ready to head north.who knows where too 🤷🏻♂️
Ya I was in St Augustine great town! Now further inland on the river. Boats coming along!
@@sailingdijan9128 which river are you on? I might pull through 🤘

Fun video. Is it legal to drink while sailing in the Bahamas?
I was just sitting there, the hydrovane was the one drivin 😉
@@SailinWithTrout I don't like rules either. On the open ocean it's not a big deal to have one. Not a drinker though. Keep having fun.
How much chain/rope rode you use? Issues with the rope chafing on coral in Bahamas?

Whats 420 like down there? Can a dude be chill down there or does he need a license?

Always trust your gut feelings. Kept me alive in the Middle East.
Yeah I just had a feeling something was going to go wrong. Probably would’ve been fine but who knows
It ain't drinking and driving, if theres no motor running ✌️
Haha hell yeah!
