    Just wanted to let you know this helped me out tremendously today. We still have a lot to work on but today was the first day where I felt I made some actual progress and me and mare weren’t both frustrated! Thank you!

    This video just popped up on my feed this morning after having this EXACT problem with my horse yesterday😳

    I know this is an old vid but its worth a shot. My horse just doesn't respond to pressure at all. She is quite sensitive when she wants to be. I can longe her without using the whip only body and voice. But then she just stops and nothing in the world will move her legs.
    It almost seems like she locks up and ignores the whip taps or waving with it. It almost feels like she is used to get hit in her passed and doesn't really care anymore. She is great in groundwork and again can be longed when she feels like it. When she stops walking on the longe she will still happily trot with me during ground work.

      Sorry for the late reply. When this happens with some horses I go right back to reteaching the lesson and in this case lunging. I will really work on the forward cue. Even after the horse is doing really good with the cue I will continue until I know the horse knows the cue and can do the exercise in their sleep mikehugheshorsetraining.vhx.tv

    my horse doesn’t go around me in a circle she turns and walks towards me. how do I get her to stop doing that? she has lunged before many times.

    • @Marcoeful
      @Marcoeful  2 года назад +2

      There are several ways we can go about this and sometimes just starting from the beginning steps of teaching lunging works really well. I have all kinds of horse training videos on my Membership site that will really help you with all kinds of behavior issues, horsemanship etc. mikehugheshorsetraining.vhx.tv

    This video is pretty old, but if possible can someone please help me! I have a quarter horse that'll refuse to move for a little bit but after some persuasion she'll start moving. My main problem is she kicks out/try's to challenge you by running up to you whenever you ask her to do something. How can i correct this?

    when i ride my horse through our trails she always acts fine until we get to a sandy or soft spot of land. she'll stop and try to roll. why does she do that and how can i get her to stop? she does it every time

    • @Marcoeful
      @Marcoeful  8 лет назад +7

      First you are going to have to find a place to work her, that has a soft spot or some sand. The when she goes to try to roll put her to work doing and exercise like a collected canter or work on trotting on 50 foot circle and having her bend. After about 20 or so minutes of doing this ask her if she would like walk through the soft spot again and if she goes to roll put her back to work. Continue doing this until she is not trying to roll any longer :)

      It's kind of hard to do in a grassy area when they are going to want to eat instead of learn mikehugheshorsetraining.vhx.tv

    the pony im riding isn't listening to the lunge whip, no matter what I do, i've tried to tap his shoulder, side and butt, but he just stands there in front of me :/ he hasn't been lunged for some time before I started riding him, and the last rider he had taught him to follow her, so I don't know how to teach him to lunge and walk out and not come in. Because everytime I walk in he just follows me :/ please any ideas? :)

    use a VERY small longeing pen. very small and stand in center.

    • @Marcoeful
      @Marcoeful  8 лет назад +9

      Sometimes you have to use what you have and that is all I had to work her with

  • @ciasarah376

    I need some advice.I have a quarter pony I just bought she is 5 yrs old started lunging her the first time and all she wants to do is lay down and roll when I try to get her moving.

    • @Marcoeful
      @Marcoeful  4 года назад +2

      You may need to use more pressure to keep her moving forward

    • @ciasarah376
      @ciasarah376 4 года назад +1

      Thank you that worked and she is lunging good to the left but to the right she backs up and rears then shoots off like shes in flight mode then stops and backs up and rears again.To the left she is doing real good.I am using a rope halter on her and a lunge line with a elastic part at the beginning.

    • @ciasarah376
      @ciasarah376 4 года назад +1

      The people that owned her let her sit in a field and did nothing with her.Since I have had her she has learned to back without a halter on and stand.She is smart and really overweight for her size.I want to get groundwork done on her so I can start breaking her around January.

    Mine does this and it’s irritating the crap of me

  • @mollyhedmalm7397

    I did that with a pony, but he just kept backing off every time even if i kept pressuring him with the whip on his shoulder. Also he stopped going faster when i asked him to go faster, even when i pressured him to. He just didn't care at all. What should you do then? Ps. He turned in to me really good, backed and leads perfectly.

    I have a horse that you can not touch her right ear.She is tall and I am only 5 ft and I have tried everything her left ear she is fine with but the right she will raise her head and try to rear up.Any advice on how I can let her know I am not going to hurt her ear?The lady that had her before me said the guy that broke her used to twist her right ear to get her to hold still and they even done it to trim her right hind hoof.Now we can't even get her right hind hoof trimmed. My farrier has done everything he thinks she has a stifle problem.

    Dude I could tap her anywhere and she won't move. If I walk she will follow in a circle, tight, crossing her back legs.. I'm new, so I'm not going super hard on her. Maybe I should. Fix me the owner, please.
