    We have a new horse, 48hrs old to us 2/1/2024. He's young and high energy, our issue is that going in the arena, he wants to Rocketship in lunge full speed out the gate without even being asked too. Really hard to stop him once he gets going. Any suggestions on how to present to him to walk first? We need to work with him, i know this but all the pent-up energy he has is not helping him concentrate. Once his burst is done, you can work him around no issues and calm as a butterfly.

      If you can halter him and he’s halter broke then keep him on a longline and do small circles until his crazy energies are gone then he should be calm enough to work with. Not ideal if he’s running around out of control so try to warm him up first like that. Lots of changes of direction will also slow him down.

    What a great simple way to begin, super! I see that this video is older but is that a newer round pen?

      Thank you! This was actually at a ranch in Brazil that I worked at for a month 😊

    Hi! I’m a 17 year old who is currently experiencing what it’s like to have a horse. Her name is Honey and I was given the opportunity to take care of her by doing her daily chores such as feeding, grooming, ect. until her owner thinks I’m ready to start riding her (Note: She wanted me to start the process of lunging her but she’s never been lunged before from what her owner informed me of) And I wanted to ask you what I should do when it comes to her invading my personal space and walking up against me to stop me from trying to lunge her? (Also she doesn’t have a round pen so it makes it a little harder)

      Hi! Great question! This is pretty normal and happens a lot at first. If you have a training stick you can hold it up towards her face and neck to “block” her from coming towards you. If you have to you could gently tap her neck which the training stick if she starts to come close to you. Try to stand your ground and not move away, making her move away and not you. This should fix it right away. Hope that helps! 😊

    What should you do when the horse keep moving when you try to stop them, when you disengage the hind quarters with the stick she just tries to keep going

    • @HorsePerfect
      @HorsePerfect  2 месяца назад +1

      Just bump her on the halter and disengage again. If she runs off just stop her again. If you want to back her up right after you stop her then that could help.
      If it’s always “go” right after you stop then she will be thinking go even when you just stopped her. By asking her to back up after she stops you’re going to help her to stop and think back vs stop go stop go. Hope that helps!

    Nice one. How have you put the lunge rope? Just a nornal head bridle or actually connected to a bite in the mouth?

    • @HorsePerfect
      @HorsePerfect  Год назад +1

      Thank you! This is just a simple halter and lead rope set up so there is no bit. You can do this exercise with a snaffle side pull bit but never with a shank bit.

    My horse just backs up and refuses to go forward we don't have a round yard and he's definitely not scared to go through fences do you have any idea what might help that

      It’s hard to say without seeing him!
      I would most likely keep applying pressure until he goes… there is a video coming out soon day 2 training a wild horse. I had the exact same problem and that may help you to watch! Just keep an eye out for that video I don’t know yet exactly what the title will be but it’s a black and white horse.

    Is it not bad behaviour if they turn in on you?

    • @HorsePerfect
      @HorsePerfect  5 месяцев назад

      You mean at the end when we have them move their hind end away and stop and turn towards us?
      In this case the horse is being respectful because they’re moving their hind end away from us and paying attention to us by looking at us. If the horse continues moving towards you and doesn’t respect your personal space then you should back them up immediately. Hope that makes sense!
