This could have been exactly me with the communication problem I am having with my horse. Thanks for taking the time to post this video. I have a long learning path ahead of me but your video helps so much!

Thanks. Really like your honesty & that you also provide info on what your horse maybe thinking if your sending the wrong message to them when your asking a different question

It’s not the horse, it is your position. You end up before the shoulder hence stopping him and then you punish him for your mistake.

Well not sure who you are talking about, the first person in video is my client. When I want a horse to stop when first teaching I do step in front of the drive line to help shut the horse down. Once they know the new rules I don't have to do this. I correct the horse when he runs through pressure.

Hi Cathie, thank you for posting this video. What should I do if my horse turns in and tries to go on the other rein? Thank you!

not sure if I understand, but if horse turns in, you need to have a counter move, and have him turn away from you.

Can you explain what benefits can come from having a horse halt on the circle rather than turning in? Currently watching the video now.

Benefits are refining communication, but mostly many horses turn in to avoid lunging. They turn in and move the handlers feet, making them back up/yield. There is nothing wrong with asking a horse to turn in, but can you make him stay out? When you go to the mounting block and the horse takes his butt away can you explain to him to bring it back, or mover his front away. Once I know I can have my horse halt on circle then I will have them turn in to change their direction.

I fully understand that I won’t make you change your ways. I’m just pointing out to bystanders that’s there other ways. I’m afraid I won’t stop making comments, much the same way that Consumer Reports don’t hesitate to criticize products.
You are selling a commodity a should be prepared to be criticized.

Horse is uncertain what to do it just gets mixed messagese and is afraid of being whipped.

Did you watch the entire video? He was getting mixed messages and then he understood. When a horse has been allowed to turn in (Only, never made to stay out) he learns to control things, he learns to come into circle and move handlers feet. he learns he does not have to, so when he gets tapped with whip of course he does not like it, once he understands he will just follow a feel and not need a whip.

What should you do when they stop lunging after going around once and they stop and look at you and won't go to lung again 2/13/34 11:35

If you have a whip, you gently tap the ground, if they still won't go, tap up on top of bum. Start soft before upping the pressure, horses can kick at you if threatened by the whip. Best to hire a trainer to show you with your horse.

What should I do when my horse tries to kick at me when lunging her?

    • @bobcatfarm
      @bobcatfarm  4 года назад

Are you applying too much pressure/energy? that will make a horse kick up or out. As they can't get away from you and they feel threatened. If it's pure aggression that needs correcting, but I can't tell without seeing this. If your horse does not do this at liberty (off line) then it gets comfort being further away. Be careful seek out a trainer that you trust (watch them in action first). If you sen me a video to bobcatfarm@yahoo.com I can look at what you are doing and critique it and then you can call me to discuss. If you go to my website you can see an option for "ask the trainer"

Since you obviously don't like what I do, move along, no need to comment on so many of my videos, don't waste your time. Better spent finding a trainer you like. Thanks.

I'm sorry to bring this up, and I hope I don't stir up trouble. I'm new to horses in general, and watching this video makes sense to me. My horse was turning in and I followed Cathie's instructions, changing my body angle and if needed encouraging with movement at the back and it works well for me. What am I missing?

Look for a trainer to help you with this, make sure you are able to watch them work with a horse with your same problem to make sure you approve of their training style.
