As an atheist and an anti-theist, I do not hate people who believe in God. All my family does. My only problem is do not tell me to believe it. I find all the cultural elements of religion and places of worship fascinating even more than people who are religious. As long as religion is not used to make legislative decisions or do not invade my space, I do not mind.
Precisely this.
Legislators are unavoidably informed by their faith, whether it's theistic faith or atheistic faith. Only those with atheistic faith should be allowed to legislate?
I think of religion and I think of love not for religion but a pathway, a resonance, a synchronisation that when we feel/ receive love we recognize love and that is a vibration of creativity or love or God the essence.
@firecloud77 There is no such thing as "atheistic faith", so I don't know why you included that term.
When people stop taking it seriously, it becomes a fantastic fashion show for whacky hats

Yes. It’s time for religion to be relegated to the Smithsonian
What do you suppose should replace it?
@@jasonmurray3685 Nothing.
It’s not the topic that is the problem. It’s the process.
If people learn what’s wrong with stopping at belief, and more importantly, acting on that belief, then humanity moves forward faster.
Imagine where humanity would be if it didn’t have to constantly revisit issues already resolved. Issues only kept alive because someone can deny infinitely, without evidence. Relying on nothing more than circular resonance.
The sound bite would never gain the traction that it does now.
It doesn’t matter that we have acted on belief in the past, or if people can think of topics other than religion that follow the same process.
Media, church, politicians, oligarchs, etc, would not be able to manipulate to maintain power if the public moved beyond populism.
But watch how it is defended.
Knowledge does not expand this way. Never has. Yet, for what ever reason, people will defend repeating the same doomed process, over and over again, particularly when encouraged to do so.
And you would think that an all knowing god would have shared this little gem with the children he apparently has a personal relationship with. Or his children would have asked!
But no. They still believe an XY rib made an XX Eve, while bitching about the moral degradation found in public schools. Even after their moral god published the evidence.

And society has to tolerate the consequences because it’s legally protected.
Which infinitely ridiculous.

@@jasonmurray3685 Sense!
Religion is one of the biggest problems facing humanity today. It has caused more problems and division than it has peace and unity. Until humanity is able to look at religions as the other myths humans have created since the beginning of time, then we will be doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past.
Other than Islam, you might want to read the room at the moment.
The biggest problems facing humanity today are with the WEF and UN and all its agendas (assuming we agree these are not religious, but leftist and atheistic and anti-religion). These powers literally control most of the world.
Then there's the issue of China (again, assuming we agree it's communist/atheistic, not religious, and assuming you think China is a global threat).
The biggest issues facing Western nations is not religion (other than Islam). Look at Canada, Scotland, Sweden, England, many U.S. states, and more. All controlled by radical atheistic leftists. In the case of Canada, Klaus literally admitted to controlling Canada via the WEF, which is under the UN structure.
I would also throw A.I. into the debate. I think A.I. is the biggest threat to the future of humanity, though there are other ideas. Regardless, this is naturally not strictly a religion vs. atheism issue. Although, I will say that I think an anti-A.I. religion is the only way to ensure human survival, since I don't know of an anti-A.I. atheistic movement. Jon Haidt is kind of anti-A.I. and might be regarded as an atheist, but he's just one man. The only real example of really controlling A.I. outside of religion is China, a communist dictatorship, so that's a non-starter.
Note: Asia, Latin America, and Africa are mixed bags, but I would say both leftism/atheism and Islam are the biggest threats by far. Jews and Christians and Hindus, etc. are causing minor issues in these nations, but are creating endless freedoms, wealth, products, and otherwise.
Humanity will never act in sync. There will always be people who want to follow false promises and illusions and others who take advantage of this.

How do you define religion?
I define it as the false answer to mankind's questions. This isn't the official definition.
Formally, religion can be defined as a structured system of beliefs, practices, and values that often involves the worship of a higher power or deity. It typically encompasses a community of followers who share common rituals, moral codes, and worldviews. Religion often addresses fundamental questions about existence, purpose, and the nature of the universe, providing adherents with a framework for understanding their place in the world.
@@Alen-gr1xm formally, are you saying the definition of what religion is, how it’s defined has changed? How so?

Sorry, but if your religious tradition states that you and your "people" are God's chosen above all others, then it's clear why that is problematic on a number of levels.
I don’t see why that’s problematic though on its own. If the religion says you are gods chosen above all others and as a result you must treat the ones who are not chosen with kindness and compassion, that seems not problematic at all.
@@soccutd77 You honestly can't see the problems this would lead to?
Such a system would create a facade of harmony and morality. It would cause deeply embedded inequalities and prevent genuine social cohesion, equity.
It would perpetuate discrimination. It would allow the use of "compassion" as a form of control. It would create an absolutist set of power dynamics and completely prevent any kind of mobility. It would cause emotional and psychological burdens on the "not divinely chosen". It would cause social tension and very clearly facilitate conflict.
But don't take my word for it. Just look through history where divine right has been used to justify all sorts of atrocities (and still is).
Tldr: it's a terrible idea.
@@DandelionGum1 you’re not really saying anything here. You say that there existing a god’s chosen people implies all that but you don’t say why it does-it seems like you’re just generally talking about “divine right to rule” rather than what I mentioned. Of course, using “I was chosen by god” as an argument to oppress others is not good for society. However if the religion states “you were chosen by god, thus you have to be a good citizen and take the high road and treat everyone with compassion and kindness even when they seem like they do not reciprocate” there would hardly be a problem, and this is a far cry from a divine right to rule.
To expand further, in our modern society if many people don’t believe in the same god in the first place, it really wouldn’t matter to them that this god that probably doesn’t exist has chosen this group of people. It seems quite inconsequential.
@@soccutd77 your entire premise falls apart when you factor in that even those who are currently religious don't follow all their teachings. Despite the absolutely ridiculous idea of a two tier caste system society.
@@DandelionGum1 right, so then why is having one of the tenets be “you are god’s chosen people” an issue? By that logic it’s not even a hard and fast premise then, and it might be something hazy just like all the other religious teachings.
My point is that “being god’s chosen people” doesn’t make an idea automatically bad. Sure it can lead to bad directions, but so can every single pattern of thought in this world-atheism to nihilistic anarchy, Islam to radical terrorism, patriotism to nationalism. It seems an odd reason (an illogical reason) to disregard something, as under your logic everything is problematic on a number of levels.

This is a weird lie -- or delusion -- from a Darwinist.
Under Darwinism 'truth' is defined as, 'that which ensures survival'. That's what 'truth' is, which may or may not include Gods and religions, etc. Whatever ensures survival is truth for Darwinism/biology/nature (or, 'the science' -- you might say, the deepest, most fundamental element of science outside of maths-driven fields, though there is much debate about this, if you follow Bossian thinking, for example).
If leftism, atheism, Marxism, feminism -- insert whatever you want here -- does not ensure survival, then it's 'un-truth' or 'anti-truth' from a strict Darwinian framework.
Of course, you can reject this if you want, since you don't have to be a strict Darwinist if you don't want, but you must be honest and account for such with an actual argument. Namely, you must offer a definition of 'truth'.
Hint: 'The objective world' is not a reasonable definition of 'truth', as you have failed to prove such (meaning, it's illogic if you care about that sort of thing), and failed to define and prove 'objective world'. You cannot reasonably prove or define 'objective world', such as 'the cup in front of me', because you've failed to actually prove what the 'cup' 'is'. Is the cup the atoms? Is it what you see it as (in this case, it's not the cup but your own perception of the cup -- again, we're back to Boss and his way of thinking, among others)? Is it the maths of the cup? Is it the quantum mechanics? You have to choose a direction and prove said direction or framework. They are actually very different, and some of them don't actually exist, so they cannot be truth, it's just an illusion (more accurately, a product of human perception). Some others, still, don't mean much as they pretty much remove the existence of the cup as distinct from the non-cup. All of this was already dealt with in the 1920s through 1950s, by the way. It's nothing new in the realm of science and maths.

As an Atheist I still have respect for some aspects of religion. but on the whole concept of religion it does more harm than good. and in this day and age with the great deal of knowledge we have. it appears that religion serves no good purpose in society.

It's clearly evident that the Evangelicals and the Christian nationalist which are basically the same. are having a growing negative influence on politics in this Country. which was founded on a more secular approach. the separation of church and state which was added later. due to the misunderstanding of the boundaries of religion. and the terms of the separation of church and state. say that anyone can believe and practice which religion they want. or no religion at all. but they can't force their religious beliefs or lack there of on someone else. but now the separation of church and state is in danger of being removed from the constitution. and we can't allow that to happen. because their religious beliefs don't coincide with this Country's political guidelines undermining our constitution. and for this Country to be successful in future the constitution must stand.

Good one. Can I steal it? Good question for religious argument. 😊

He has not only ripped religion apart, he has contributed to sowing seeds to rip the Western society and culture apart and no better place to witness that than his home country.
Cherry picking means moving away from the core. Just keep cherry picking until there is no religion left.
Religion tried to unite people but it only divided people. Back when people lived in small tribes, it served to hold those tribes together. The problem was when those tribes came in contact with each other. Religion is outdated and irrelevant now. Magical thinking has no place in this modern world. We need real solutions to our problems. The only way to do that is with science and facts.
Religion never tried to unite people. The OT is explicitly written as a tribal political document.
The problem with when people say "they got it wrong before, so science might turn out to be totally wrong now",
is that back then, they werent working with precise tech measurement instruments.
They were working from "person sized" experiments & reasoning from previously imagined ideas.
Nowadays we are working from precise & rigorously evidenced findings,
that each fit in the big jigsaw of all the other precise evidenced sciences.
Before if something was wrong, it was an idea.
Now, all "theories" are connected in a complex network of objectively shown to be real, findings.
So when people say one theory was wrong, its not just that one theory.
Its every objectively working & predictive and true fact of all the other connected networks of the sciences.
So the evidences we have will NEVER be proved "wrong".
BUT, they might find bigger theories that the current theories fit into.
But our whole tech, scientific WORKING world shows that the science behind them is true & works.
Or we would NOT have m.phones, gps, modern oil companies, genetics, complex medicines etc.
All that rely on the theories that ignorant people try to say could be completely wrong.
Which makes no sense.
We know they are true, cos they wouldnt all connect in a perfectly working jigsaw if they werent.
A quicker way to say all that is that it's only ever been better and more accurate science that's disproved previous theories, never a book of magic

When it comes to saying they, the jewish, are ”the chosen people” or that the are entitled to ”a promised land”, that’s taking things way too far and beyond all sensible reasoning. We would be much better off without this kind of nonsense. As long as people keep their religious beliefs out of the public domain I don’t really care about religion. History is full of examples of what happened when the church was more powerful and in control of the people.
Religion makes otherwise sane and rational people do completely insane and irrational things. It astounds me that the irrational seems to win over the rational side of so many human beings.
Brian's explanation about his irrational prayer to a god to which he doesn't believe only goes to show the powerful psychology behind mysticism and religion. Most people will always need a security blanket.

I agree
I didn’t realize how much Brian Green said “Uh” especially right after he gets a laugh, and almost the exact same way Steven Krauss says the same thing at the same times.
I am an atheist, but I’m against ridding the world of religion because some people seem to need it in order to not be rapists and plunderers. There’s something about the threat of God that keeps them in line. When somebody asks me what is stopping me from doing those things as an atheist, that makes me realize that their imaginary God is stopping them.
The problem is that it is also doing just the opposite. Several churches act as safe spaces for many priests to abuse children. Even if a church eventually does push them out, the disgusting priest just goes to another one to abuse more children.
Their god is also ‘telling’ them to do hideous things in the name of religion.
@@David-cm4ok that’s true!
you’re a weird person.
Unfortunately not
The people who have plans of doing these only fear of police & jail is stopping them
Not the punishment of afterlife
My problem with religion is that even if it were in itself benign, which it is not, that it creates neural pathways in the brain that allow a person despite knowing better to accept things that are not true
of course fairytales should be eliminated they aren’t true
People that need an imaginary friend in the sky are welcome to it. As long as they do not use it to hurt other people, or try to force it on to their people.
The right to believe in a religion should be protected, but the right to prothylitized it should not.
I'll be frank. There should not be a right to believe in pseudociencie and supersticions, specially if they harm people.
If most religions if not all of them fall inside that category, then that should be it.
Religion has had too much privileges too much longer than we needed.
Or proselytise. The right to have your belief taken seriously should NOT be protected
There isn't a world in which this atheist will become the same problem he fights against by rounding up my antitheses and forcing them to do essentially the same thing they have done to everyone else. Sounds like the definition of insanity to me.
I hope in my lifetime religion is more widely thought of as historical myth. Like we think of Greek mythology today.

The god theory doesn't really serve as an explanation for the origin of the universe. Some sort of all powerful hide and seek champion of the universe snapped his fingers, uttered the magic words and suddenly out of nowhere conjured up a universe from nothing. Now that's a theory that's as devoid of explanatory content as it gets.

We all belong to a long line of humans that believed silly things. So what?
It's still rampant? That's what.
As much as I hate religion, I think humans would just replace it with something worse, it's what we do.
That is a possibility, sadly.
There are millions of people who identify a common bond of morals, stories, and history from Star Trek. That's not worse. You could consider the same with plenty of other pop icon universes.
Look at China, mostly atheistic society.
Its staggering to think just how stupid the vast majority of humanity has been over its history. Its almost miraculous how we have managed to achieve anything of lasting value. Slavery was abolished although its making its way back via the US prison system. Women have achieved some manner of autonomy although that gain is under threat since Roe v Wade was overturned. Children are no longer seen as property and yet IVF means the price of a baby is available in real time.
There were some verses in the Bible that read to me as saying it was created to end a bunch of superstitions and replace it with something a little more rational because people will always come up with some supernatural belief.
Add in the presence of hallucinogenic drugs 😅
So funny when people defend religion by basically saying that “most religious people don’t really believe all that crap” hahah it’s like hey, thank you for making my case for me
Honestly, Atheistic logic is so stupid if You really think about it! 😂😂😂

This event is set to challenge conventional perspectives, offering deep insights into the complex relationship between faith, reason, and the pursuit of knowledge.

Brian struggles to get to the point. He waters down false beliefs in the hope Dawkins will swallow it. Dawnkins view is simple; it's important to have beliefs that are rational and evidence based. All else, have many pitfalls, if not plain disastrous. Another point; evidence based beliefs unite us, because it's not about us or them. That's not true for religions, because it's them against us.
The sooner all religions join the historical mythology section of libraries and bookstores, the better!
"MY IDOL is better than yours, and i've got the nukes' to prove it!" 😅
As I child I would have second thoughts on staying overnight in a haunted mansion. Now, If I knew there is no homeless drug users inside, I don't give a damn about doing so. I many times do it intentionally as a photographer for artistic reasons.
So it's striking for me that Mr. Dawkins still have such fears.
I have been atheist all my life, we just never talked about religion or anything like that in our house, in fact I only really knew what atheist was in my 20s.
But I always liked church, where I'm from going to church one or two times a year was part of the prinary school. And I also went to few church camps. Difference though is that they are not allowed to preach or convert, it's more of an cultural and spiritual thing. Idk if it happens anymore though.
Now, when compared to church, I have entirely different opinion on religion, and people that try to convert others. I think Christianity is important part of culture and history. For me, religion is just old ideology and way of explaining the world. Some good part, and plenty of bad parts, especially the foundation.
Well yea, but greek/stolen Roman mythology is also important to European culture and history.
Doesn't mean it should be protected and forced upon children
@skindred1888 What are you talking about? There is a great difference in teaching about religion, history and culture vs indoctrination. If you are from Europe and overall west, Rome and Greece is a pretty important part of ancient history.
Our very religious neighbour is a lovely lady who volunteers at church and nothing is ever too much trouble for her.
Her husband was also a Church Elder but while walking along the rocky shoreline with their kids, he slipped and cracked his head open, dying instantly.
Her faith helped her cope with the tragedy but doesn't say much for God looking over us.......

sad existence lol, this guy, always looking down the nose at the non believers. you are a garbage person.
Notable and very worthwhile presentation by both Dawkins and Greene.
It was clearly an excellent capture of Greene at his keenest moments of considered responses to all questions, with his superb grasp of the math, the science, and the key scientists and philosophers in matters historic and contemporary. This lasted to the very end of what must have been a much longer evening than the duration of this video.
This is very revealing presentation. as it makes clear the false presuppositions, and unrealized fallacies in the reasoning of both Dawkins and Greene.
The psychological or emotional biases of both Greene and Dawkins are revealed. In Greene's opening anecdote about his concern for his aging mother being out of communication for unusual period, Green explains the internal conflicting duality that may people operate with. It is probably a great summary example of the movie writers' greatest successes in jokes and humor that reach a broad segment of American audiences in films. Woody Allen has succeeded with a great many films keying in on these complex behavior sets and "standards" of people, that ring the bell of humor in so many.
The clearly evidenced, though carefully avoided in conscious admission, is the non-rational denial of evidence based belief and support that exists for Judaeo-Christian belief in the God of the Bible. Though they attempt to make explicit humor of the internal quirks of dichotomous thinking and behavior, Dawkins with avoidance of "haunted houses" and Greene with his prayers of last resort or emergency situations, they deny, without evidence, the existence of reason validated belief and trust in the God revealed in the Bible, and specifically claimed to all history, by Yeshua/Jesus to in fact be that God.
An enhanced discussion to present would be to include Dr. David Berlinski with Dawkins and with Greene. I feel that Berlinski's manner of presenting the scientific failures and the type of excuses and rationalizations that science education, in even the best universities, would be brought out. Berlinski does not choose to use most of time in debates or discussions in effort to present the logical resolutions to the clearly false reasoning, but rather to hope for the moments of relaxation of mental and emotional repetitious proselytizing of non-theistic, Materialist-Naturalist scientists to occur during or after their presentations.
I think Berlinski has faith in the practice of those truly dedicated to reason and to verifying claims of truth and fact and science, to reconsider, and mentally rehearse issues of challenge, once personally challenged, with the common state where we all say, "I wish I hadn't jumped to that negative assumption" or "I wish I had stopped for a second to say that in a better way." To me, it appears Berlinski, and perhaps Greene, have a more heartfelt and practiced communication and social interaction embracing respect, and even "watching out for the other guy" even if he is in "debate" with you.
For those prepared to consider the logical, science supported claims and evidence of the truth of God in the Bible, please look up Reasons.org and the many books of Dr. Hugh Ross and his fellow scientist scholars. Also consider that Dr. Berlinski has earned a doctorate in molecular Biology and in Philosophy. He has underplayed these skills, and range of knowledge in a most dignified manner in the public discussions he makes. He would be astounded, to see the passion continuing behind both Greene and Dawkins in their refusal and denial of the truth, verifiable by science, of the Bible - especially its unique characteristic among all world sacred texts regarding reporting on origins and creation of our Universe by God.
