@Sobble as biased as I am to Corrin, I agree that Byleth's understanding of the consequences of war is refreshing. Corrin was conditioned to be sheltered and merciful, and as touching their humanity is and how much I appreciate that side of their character, it does lead to more consequences and heartache for them, Byleth however knows the cost of war and still goes through with slaying the enemy, even though killing Edelgard must've broken them.

Doesn't mean that Corrin isn't a likeable character, it just causes a lot of inconsistencies and it makes war seem all smiles and rainbows when in reality even Xander and Ryoma warn him that both his trusting nature is both a blessing and a curse. Byleth was a bigger improvement in characterisation - silent character or not.

@@JingMitsuyamaCH The scene doesn't try to do that :q the point of the scene in Silver Snow It's that in this path you was the Edelgard teacher, so the relation between the two was very strong, and also, in that point in the history you are basically the only one that can change and dominate Fodlan
And this cutscene It's even more strong if you renember what happen in the first cutscene in Silver Snow, and what Edelgard say in it

The writers/voice actors for this game need to win some kind of award. no joke. 😭
Edelgard is a very good character, but works better as a villain than a hero, 3 out of 4 paths we end her, and for good reasons; she was made to be a tragic character, an antagonist we would feel sorry for. The Crimson Flower route is a bonus route in every way, less cutscenes, straightfoward, with short appearences of characters that are introduced and develloped in the other routes, like Judith, Nader, Rodrigue or cornelia; in any case Edelgard is pretty much the central character of the game without being the hero, hell the main theme is about her! She is tragic villain with good intentions, cunning, fierce, determined, but fairly misguided and manipulated and also unwavering which caused her downfall.

@@l_a_o9793 I see your point, but most of the issues you mentioned are solved in Verdant Wind; besides at the end of every route, the crest system is reformed and far less impactful to the people as it was in its begining. At the end of every route, Rhea no longer serves as archbishop (not even in SS) either by stepping down or her death, the church is then reformed either by Byleth or Seteth; TWSITD are dealt with ON SCREEN for certain in the 3 other routes, in SS and VW we actually destroy their base and leader in one fell swoop, in AM we kill their entire chain of command without knowing it (Hilarious^^). In Verdant Wind all the problems that plagued Fodlan are dealt with including the continent isolation, and unlike CF we have ALL the proper knowledge of Fodlan past, not the half-assed biased stories Edelgard drank as a kid, remember, we don't know how many casualties and sacrifices were made in her secret war against TWSITD. Even thow I hate how SS and VD are copypaste of one another, VD has the same outcome than CF without the need of an uncertain secret war off screen.
@@l_a_o9793 Mate, I begin to question if you actually read my first comment, I DID mention that Edelgard is the central Character of 3 houses, I know that she ignite the spark of change by starting the war, where did you saw that I meant otherwise?:/ I just said she made more sense storywise as an tragic villain than a hero. And the fact that History is written by the victors is the point of the damn game, you choose to side with whom you agree with ideologicaly. And that is completely besides the point since I'm not trying to impose which path is more canon that an other, All paths are complementary to fully grasp the whole story, and sorry but CF is objectively lackluster in that department compare to the other routes.
@@l_a_o9793 What you feel is the "better" path for Fordlan doesn't change the 'bonus route' vibe that Crimson Flower has at all. The game's development history and result are what determine which route was the extra one, not our feelings. If CF's much lower budget and shorter length weren't enough indications for you, a recent interview with the developers just confirmed that Eldegard's route was the last one they made, whereas Church's was the first.
It may be your personal favorite route, but it IS the last one written after prioritizing the more 'canon-ish' bulk of the game where Edelgard is the villain.
I know it may be triggering for you to hear stuff like that, but it is what is. Sometimes our interpretations of an art is different from what the artist intended. It may be upsetting but their words are what dictate what is factual.

Crimson Flower IS the extra bonus route, because it contained the least amount of story, cutscene, and info/lore. If someone could only play one route, Edelgard's would be the worst choice.

Let's be honest we knew byleth wasnt gonna let her go. He lost his dad to one of her colleagues, the same colleagues that ruthlessly destroyed a village, was forced to lose sithos (I think that's her name) in order to escape the forbidden spell, and had to kill his own students. Heck he was forced to make some of his students kill thier friends. She had to go, honestly the fact that he grasps his sword tighter shows more humanity than even I could muster

Without a doubt. It is a fuckton more impactful when she was your student. In any route you never get the chance to develop any kind of relationship whatsoever with the house leaders of the houses you didn't choose.
That said, ghost Dimitri's conversation with Byleth in Silver Snow was nonetheless impactful... more than anything to do with Claude, who just pulls an Eric Cartman on all of Fodlan after losing the Battle of Gronder (of course, he does do that in all routes in which he survives).
This scene makes 0 sense to be in golden deer route. Its should have been Silver Snow exclusive

AM is about the fall and rise of king dimitri and the conflict between him and edelgard, VW is uncovering the past of fodlan and open it to new horizons, and SS is the one where you uncover your past. CF doesn't give any lore besides edelgard's point of view, but that was also given is AM.

I think that this scene doesn't deserve to be in Verdant Wind honestly, It's not even that important to the point that you can escape it and nothing would changes, in Silver Snow instead in one of the most powerful moments in the entire route

TheChiptide I mean Fodlan was not a peaceful place before the war. There was constant conflict before Edelgard decided to declare war against the Church. She wanted to change the constant cycle of conflict and death across Fodlan, and the way she believed was the best way to do so was by war. Like she says to Dimitri, she weighed the victims of war against the victims of the world as it is now, and she chose the ladder. She isn’t denying that she didn’t start this war, but she wants Byleth to make the changes that she couldn’t succeed in doing. That’s how I saw it.
@@henry_717 I mean, that's what she claims, but if you actually look at the game pre-time skip, unless you're a member of the western church, nobody was really bothering you. (Granted, living in a feudal society probably sucks, but that won't be any different if Edelgard takes over) I always took this scene as Edelgard realizing that she was being manipulated and used by Solon and co the whole time, and now feels like the only way to solve the problem that she started is to lay down her own life so that Claude and Byleth can fix everything

Yes and no. I'll give it to you that the whole crest system is messed up, but she KNOWS that those who slither are evil and preformed horrific experiments on her and many others, and yet she points the finger of blame solely at the crests. It'd be smarter to work with the church to take out those who slither FIRST, then maybe try and use the good will from that to tackle the whole crest situation, and if that doesn't work MAYBE use the war as a last resort. Anyone who's plan A is a continent-wide war is in the wrong in my book
@SleepyWolf I suppose I can see where you're coming from, but I think defeating those who slither alone is a taller task than defeating the church alone with all their wild spells and technology. The only reason the alliance able to in verdant winds was because they got super lucky and Byleth is OP

This is why I know Edelgard was trying to kill Dimitri in the Azure Moon ending, otherwise she would have given him the same talk and killed herself when he would undoubtedly refuse.
I tend to think that Byleth’s cold stare in this cutscene is him getting revenge for Jeralt’s death when Edelgard knew Kronya was disguised as Monica.

They had more plan but ran out time which is shame casue that may it more interesting both in story and gameplay (Edelgard interfering with Byleth’s ability to manipulate time with Divine Pulse which might casue player think more tactically and more carefully) but this is end result and we have deal with it
When I tell you I was shocked when Byleth killed her. Like the music and the pain in her voice was just perfect. And i hated what she did but I knew she has good intentions but then the way the music is just instantly cut off by her getting killed gives me chills.
Same. I legit froze at the victory screen. I chosen Silver Snow route first (mistakenly), and gotta say, lots of mixed feelings were expressed that day.

I honestly wanted to save Edelgard. But I think back to all those instances where she almost killed me and put innocents at risk needlessly - proving she clearly is not interested in creating the best world for all, but achieving a narrow-minded vision painted in blood. She is a villain who needs to die, because, as smart as she is, she chooses to hurt without discussing or considering alternatives. Egocentrically attaching herself to her own ideals, and not considering others.
On the contrary. She respected others peoples vision (claude's, dimitri's) but still thought her idea was the best and kept fighting to the bitter end for it, but still entrusting fodlan to who defeats her. Her plan, given the information she had, was the best she could do. She considered every other option before doing it. She made a choice, unlike dimitri who confesses he is unable to make the hard choices. And honestly, no one proved her wrong. Unfication of fodlan in all routes happens thanks to her. Claude and dimitri did not succeed on their own.

@@kellywatson4383 nope, thanking her for declaring war, which is the only way to unify fodlan, and seems to be a the best thing ever in all routes, and its dimitri and claude who should thank her, not the families who lost people in the war. They get to do the exact same thing as her without looking bad. And please stop with the hitler comparison. Its freakin invalid on most fronts. Napoleon is a much more valid comparison. And yes, countries which he invaded owe him his greatest work (he said it himself) his civil code. Still used nowadays in modified versions by a lot of european countries, or was copied by others. In france it took 2014 or so to finally modify it a bit.

The scene makes far more sense in Silver Snow. Byleth cuts her down so abruptly because if he hesitates, it’ll only make it harder.
Crimson Flower was my first route & El's my favourite lord .... boy, seeing this cutscene in VW and SS really had me put down my controller for a moment. I wasn't prepared for Byleth to strike her down so suddenly. (also since she's kneeling and he just slices at her? bOY)
This scene made Byleth my favorite FE protagonist.

I loved how abrupt it was at the end, because death isn't poetic or romantic, it just is and then it's over.
The way this seems to me is that Edelgard saying "I wanted to walk with you" pushed Byleth past the edge of grief, and he did the only thing he had the strength to do at that point.
I just think he didn’t care what she had to say and wanted it over already

@@greendemon905 It's more like i was disappointed with her. She could have been awesome. A person to flip the script on Rhea and get her to start the war by beating those who slither. Stopping the "Flame Emperor" BS and using the dark cult's corpses as proof as well as her mirrored trauma to Byleth to portray her rule as legitimate. Her relationship with Byleth could have been far more interesting then "self insert i love you". her character could have been "Sylvanus Windrunner" from warcraft done super right. Instead she's just the character i just mentioned, done a little better. To answer your question.
I would have not minded liking Edelgard. But no, i plain can't.
@@KingofAwesomness14 I see. I also have many gripes with her. From her hypocrisy in usurping Fodlan to save it from a tyrant, to her inability to listen to, and rely on, anyone besides Byleth. It was really annoying playing Crimson Flower as someone who had to attraction to Edelgard, and to constantly have to put up with her drooling over Byleth.
And I never felt like the Black Eagles were a united group. Edelgard constantly withholds information from the people who are supposed to be her friends. She never has to explain to them why she masqueraded as the Flame Emperor, and never tells them who really nuked Fhirdiad.
She also never gets a moment to question her goals and morals, unlike Dimitri and Rhea. Dimitri in Azure Moon learns to live for himself, rather than be a vessel for vengeance. Rhea in Silver Snow learned the consequences of her iron grip over Fodlan, and became sincerely sorry for her actions. These moments make both characters deeper and more nuanced, but Edelgard doesn't get the same treatment.
I felt empty when I finished Crimson Flower. Halfway through the final boss, I had an epiphany: Why am I trying to keep all my units alive? What difference does it make if they live or die? Edelgard cleary doesn't fully trust them, and they themselves don't seem to understand what they're fighting for. They're just afraid of Rhea. So I threw all my units at the Immaculate One. I had her down in 2 turns. Caspar, Petra, Anna and Lysithea all fell trying to take her down. And I felt nothing.
The ending narration may have told me I helped unite Fodlan in peace, but I never felt like that was the case. I just helped a delusional girl conquer a continent. I kept waiting for the moment the game would change my mind, to tell me there was more to Edelgard than meets the eye. But it never came.
As someone who played Blue Lions first then Black Eagles, this scenes gives me so much satisfaction ^^

I'm glad that Silver Snow was my first route because it makes the most sense with this scene. Got to fully enjoy it.

My first play through of FE3H was silver snow. I wasn’t even aware of the church path and was genuinely surprised about Edelgard being the flame emperor “despite how obvious it was”. I was really pulled in narratively because it felt so dramatic to me and witnessing how the other black eagles students reacted to fighting their own country for Byleth was quite heartbreaking. Caspar’s father dying is one, Ferdinand doubts, and Dorothea maturing as a woman are some of the moments I vividly recall. I understand that the church route is probably one of the weaker ones narratively but the tragedy of it all is what stuck to me. At the end of my play through I had Byleth marry no one because I was original going to s rank Edelgard. So in the end I imagine Byleth is just a lonely man”or woman” who leads Fodland as the new archbishop and occasionally sees his remaining friends. I’ve played through all of the other routes and agree that they have much better narrative “especially blue lions” but I don’t think I will quite remember them as much as silver snow.

Golden Deer was my last house playthrough. In fact, just saw this only an hour ago. I love El a lot, so this struck me hard and cut deep into my heart. So quick and cuts off so suddenly.

Honestly Crimson flower is basically if Zephiel, walhart, heck maybe even lyon had their own route. all of them are psycho fighting for their cause. it just so happened that Eldelgard's cause is slightly less dumber than the latter.
I remember when I first saw this scene I was playing Verdant Wind. I had played fates, loved it but hated bitch boy Corrin. I went into this scene thinking Byleth was gonna spare her... and then Byleth struck her down. I paused for 30 seconds in shock, not expecting them to make an avatar that could be so ruthless and show minimal remorse to killing her. Just shows you how much better Byleth is than Corrin

Edelgard knows the consequences of both sides living on, which is why when shes defeated she basically forces you to kill her, byleth was already going to do it, so edelgard just had to encourage it, with the Dimitri ending scene, she had to fake try to kill him to get him to kill her, and I know it was to get him to kill her because A. She has amazing aim, yet she hit his shoulder not his heart or neck. B. if she wanted to execute him she should have done it later when they were alone, and she was in a better state, edelgard isnt the kind of person to act desperately.
I mean for B. her turning to hegemon was an act of desperation.
but its more poetic to see her force dimitri's hand instead so I prefer that interpretation.
@@johnisaacfelipe6357 okay, I phrased that wrong, it was an act of desperation but it was still a planned and calculated one, one that could still end up with her on top, likewise the throwing the knife (if not to force his hand like I said) would be all desperation, as even of she killed him, byleth was right there and could've killed her instantly, if her plan were to kill Dimitri, then the obvious best plan would've been to take his hand, and then kill them both at a time when she wasnt injured and surrounded

I mean, if she was as desperate to turn children into beasts then herself into one, Its not that far of a logical leap to ascribe her next actions to desperation as well.
heck its more improbable to say that she threw the dagger not out of desperation but out of willful and noble resignation but the most likely scenario is definitely less poetic.
@@johnisaacfelipe6357 the thing is, I dont disagree that those were desperate measures as well, but edelgard is smart, those measures she took did lead to potential victory, and probably would have if not for byleth, the dagger situation on the other hand, there was no winning that, if she had intended to kill him it was very obvious either of the two of them would have killed her on the spot, and also I'm not just pulling the "if they both keep living the war will continue" out of my ass, cause she literally says that in her death scene in SS and VW, she begs Byleth to kill her since she knows if she lives, even as a prisoner, her followers will continue the conflict forever, when its byleths duty to kill her, either in SS, she knows byleth can do it, or in VW, she knows byleth doesnt have the bond with her to stop them from killing her, so all byleth needed was her to flat out tell them to kill her, Dimitri on the other hand has a soft spot for edelgard, and she knew that, so she couldnt just beg him to kill her, she had to force his hand

This death had my gut wrenching I knew the path I was taking when choosing the white snow path but it still hit hard I didn’t want to kill her
i am disappointed with Edelgard. She could have been awesome. A person to flip the script on Rhea and get her to start the war by beating those who slither. Stopping the "Flame Emperor" BS and using the dark cult's corpses as proof as well as her mirrored trauma to Byleth to portray her rule as legitimate. Her relationship with Byleth could have been far more interesting then "self insert i love you". her character could have been "Sylvanus Windrunner" from warcraft done super right. Instead she's just the character i just mentioned, done a little better.

Copped this game last Friday and did the Church route first, and man this scene was so hard to watch. My strongest unit and favorite student ended up like this, I really hoped Byleth wouldve spared her but to see her get cut down with no hesitation, though it made sense, hit me right in the feels + this amazing soundtrack 😪

In every route (even when I did the church's route first when I began playing when it came out), I never thought Edelgard was in the wrong... She played the big bad so change could happen and be easier for many later on down the line... Poor girl...
