I wonder what the Wright Brothers would think if they were somehow alive and able to see an F22 in action.
Rob G I think they'd give themselves a nice pat on the back, then head to the bar for a few drinks.
Wright brothers: We invented it
+Rob G I think about stuff like that regarding most things. I believe most would be freaking out like fuck if they saw what there inventions and theories had become.
+Rob G They might say "come back the old days."

Can we give a thumbs up for the camera work!! Its incredibly difficult to keep an object moving at that speed in the picture at all let alone centred(and particularly once directly over head). The focus and physical acrobatics going on behind the camera to keep that lens pointed correctly is something to be recognised and applauded.
So why can't they capture a stationary "ufo" with the same precision.
@@majinvegeta9280 Because the ufo is moving 5 times faster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could still do it 🤪
I was thinking the exact same thing. Not to mention the zoom level and never once losing sight of the Raptor. I'd take a steady hand like that at my side any day.
Now, if we could just get that guy to film Bigfoot... lol
Every time I hear an F22... it's just such a unique engine sound. It sounds like it's ripping air to shreds. It's a hungry growl, like a monster. So fitting for a plane that is so OP.

Videos just don't do that sound any justice what so ever. You can't feel it in your chest, rattling your organs around.
Ben Lloyd And that is why everyone should go to airshows....at least once!
+Ben Lloyd I've only ever seen the prototype F22 fly, so I haven't really seen them at their best, but your statement stands true for an aircraft I am familiar with...the Avro Vulcan. The only plane I know that roars like a T-Rex, and feels like a flying earthquake when it hits full power...
+Xrm150 you go once, you will go to all
South Park had an episode where they claimed they could play a music note that would make you soil yourself. Everyone knew it was just made up for the show, but now, it's a reality. They rattle your innards and make you damn near go deaf.
Ben Lloyd just got from Sun n Fun 2017!
Fun facts about jet sounds:
• the tearing/screeching sound is produced by turbulent 'flows' that form when the high velocity stream of fluid coming out of the jet nozzle collides with stationary air
• each individual 'flow' emits its own sound, resulting in a broadband noise of many different amplitudes and frequencies that extend well beyond human hearing.
• the highest frequency sounds tend to dominate because those 'flows' occur right next to the nozzle opening where the flow is strongest
• the dominant frequency changes constantly and dramatically because it is proportional to the velocity of the outflow, inversely proportional to the diameter of the outflow, and changes with respect to your position due to the Doppler effect. Loudness is proportional to the 8th power of the outflow velocity.
double0seven thanks so much for the explanation. I've always wondered what constituted this particular sound. Where did you get this info from? And do you think that this could be applied to explain the popping sound that you hear from SRBs?
Way to Science the shit out of this. Just what it needed.

+Barry Snell your welcome
I agree
Yeah, this is a thing of beauty.
Wow, you don't realize how massive this plane is until you see it scaled against the runway and the background buildings.
Yeah, I always underestimated the size of fighters until one day I went to a museum and saw things like the F-4 and F-15. The F-16 was pretty tiny though.
The F-22 is about 62 feet long and nearly 17 feet high with a wingspan of nearly 45 feet. They're pretty big.
I mean it's big.... but the f22 is surprisingly small compared to other jets. They deliberately designed it to be so small it's hard to get a lock on with missles
You'd shit yourself if you get to see a C5 super galaxy in person. It's unreal how large they are. The top of the tail end of the C5 is equivalent of a 6 story building.
@@Fru1tSamura1 well no. F-22 is larger than many of your fourth and third generation designs, and is not incredibly smaller than other fighters like the Su-57. F-35 is smaller, sure, but it's less about size and more about shaping and coating. if size was a huge factor (I'm not saying it isn't a factor at all of course) then the F-5 must be a super jet. as I said, the F-22 is definitely still on the larger half of fighter aircraft.
It’s tearing through the atmosphere.. not flying.. like ripping its way through. Badass
My father, Gene Elmore was the director of the F-22 program at Lockheed Martin. He took me with him when the prototype did its first taxi up and down the runway, and then I got to see it up close and personal (up close meaning at least 50 feet away at all times. It had a rope barrier around it and guards protecting it. I asked my dad what it was made of and he said “I can’t tell you son…”. I then asked him “how fast is it, Dad? He smiled and said “pretty fast”. I knew all the questions I was asking were classified and did it just ti see what he would say. My dad was so proud of that airplane and I still own the original desktop model given to him by Lockheed that sat on his desk. He passed away in 2003 and always prided himself from being a rambling wreck from Georgia Tech - and a hell of an engineer… which is just what he was. Rest in peace dad, I love and miss you!
Awesome little anecdote. Rest easy, dad.
I was at work one morning and I thought I was seeing an F-18 at a distance. As it got closer it turned out to be an F-22! I'd never seen one with my own eyes! But it had that same "Unholy Roar", I couldn't take my eyes off of it! IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!! Thanks for posting this!!!
I had a similar experience. Co-workers were crossing the parking lot, as was I. I was so excited. No one else seemed particularly interested. I realized that from the time I first saw the F 22s , if I had broken into a full run, they would have already passed overhead before I could reach the entrance to the building. Simply awesome !
And now we have f35s making the f22 sound quiet lol.

I saw Raptors up close last summer in Huntington Beach. The moves they were doing were next level. Can’t imagine anyone would want to go up against one close up or BVR.
the F22A has 2D thrust vectoring...you should see what the russian "supermanuverable" jets can do with 3D thrust vectoring ..of course in BVR the Raptor would kill them before they knew he was there but in a dogfight the Su-30/35/57 definitely have a technical advantage ..
but whether or not their pilots can exploit it is another question that hopefully never gets answered
@springfieldbearpatrol2937 Well if the F-22 did the move where it goes vertical and the goes back to straight and flying. Though very impractical in actual combat was invented by a a Russian. Called Pugachevs cobra.
@@timyestimas cool as the 3d thrust vectoring is, it's not really practical since the f22 is a long range stealth fighter, ideally it won't be getting into dogfights. F35s are more likely to be dogfighting enemy fighters.

Couple years ago I moved from a city that had a supersize air force installation to a city that hardly has any air traffic at all. It was odd how quiet the skies are. This video sure reminds me of home, watching F16's go through their flight tests after being rebuilt. AWESOME VIDEO. thanks for the little piece of home.
My dad was in the Army Air Corps, then the US Air Force, from 1947-1976. I was in the US Air Force from 1974-2004, and live near a big air base currently. Unbroken for 68 years, for me, and my dad and I were in the Air Force, between us, for the first 57 years of its existence.
I used to work a lot of temp office jobs near Miramar in San Diego, and always heard the F-18's out practicing.
What a badass plane. The Wright Brothers would be proud

@@alexhodson2874Lol what did she have to do with the first flight? Literally nothing.
Driving through Marietta GA back in early 2000’s and a Raptor came out of nowhere, vertical right next to my car... it had its bay doors opened as it flew straight up and over I-75... I watched other drivers swerving to see it, really incredible. Got to my hotel later that night and found out it was indeed a raptor training in the area. Got a good look at it before it was unveiled to the public. It hardly made a sound, came out of nowhere and was gone before you knew it! Amazing platform then and now. Thanks for sharing!

For me one of the most beautiful fighter jets ever developed. The proportions are insane.
Lived on stock island in the Florida keys and used to watch f18s taking off and landing every day (it never gets old). The blue angels came in a week before their airshow on memorial day and practiced everyday. I was hanging out on the top of my trailer (I know) and two of the jets flew so low and the pilots waved (the most incredible thing I have ever seen. And no I didn't have a camera (worst regret I have).
My dad was stationed at Pensacola NAS when I was in high school. I never went to the beach when they had their annual 4th of July airshow because of how crowded it was, but I was there every day beforehand to watch them practice. One time, my friend and I were walking the beach and they came up behind us at like 200ft. We hit the deck like we were being shot at, it surprised us so much!
The whole time I was filming it I was thinking to myself "Man am I hearing this right?".

Ah, memories. The last airshow I went to with my dad and grandfather was in Rhode Island. We get there, and we're out in the parking lot and I see an F-15 flying by out in the distance.
Then it rolled over and came toward us, and I'll never forget that shape.
Ahhhh! SO WONDROUS!
Amazing what kind of engine sound those "stealth" Raptors can make. Especially while diving at reduced throttle, sounds more like a low rumbling radial engine than a jet turbine engine.
"Stealth" that's what I always say. How can they say anything is stealth when you can hear it 30 miles away?
@@kirkschoolfield4173because it's designed to be *radar* stealth. the F-22 reportedly has the radar cross section of a bumblebee, and is effectively invisible to most radar. you can hear it and you can see it, but your instruments have no idea it even exists. in the modern day and age, the vast majority of anti aircraft systems (including missiles on other aircraft) use a form of radar, and you can't hit something if the radar doesn't think it's there. and if you're looking for something, if your instruments don't tell you anything is there, then why should you look there?
the stealth tech on these 'stealth planes' doesn't hide them from human senses, it hides them from our equipment.
@@kirkschoolfield4173 you can't hear them if they are 30+ miles away. That's when they fire an AMRAAM at you, undetected by radars, and it's too late. That's the point of stealth.

+machia0705 For the record, there is not such thing as a "vodka guzzling or chicken chow mein eating fighter", fighter jets use jet fuel, they don't go to the bar or your local Chinese restaurant, so relax, your "all American" jet is safe from anything these fictional plane have to through at it...

Put 3 of these up against 3 su-37s and no way will the su-37s survive. Just look at its agility. Amazing.
+parteibonza Never underestimate ones enemy.
+B.R. Buckeye Man ok good advice.
+B.R. Buckeye Man True, but the F-22 is still in a class of it's own. Taking out all variables related to modern warfare, and putting both the F-22 and Su-37 up against each other 1v1 on perfectly equal grounds, the Su-37 has no chance.
F-22 has better agility, better technology, and a much smaller RCS. If you want to start talking about air defense systems and radar detection technology you can argue one way or another, but on pure specs alone the F-22 is king.
+Euph Thanks for your reply and info, it's a shame a friendly "dog fight" couldn't be arranged, maybe at a large airshow, now that would draw in the crowds.
+parteibonza ...Su37 is more agile. F22 has thrust vectoring only in the pitch axis, and to a more limited degree than the Su37 - which has full 360-degree thrust vectoring (as a missile does). Also, an aircraft is only as effective as its armament. The F22 carries the same basic weapons combination (M61, AIM9, AIM120) that U.S. supplied western nations have been utilizing for decades. That weapons combination may have had considerable success, but most of that success was achieved versus the comparatively antique MiG21 (an aircraft that carried absolutely NO modern countermeasures, let alone electronic warfare/jamming equipment). The Russians have abundantly proven that their newest EW systems are pretty damned good at scrambling our electronics. If we cannot see the Su37 through its EW interference, then the "stealth" advantage of the F22 is mute.
Last week I was fortunate enough to witness a breathtaking F-22 Unrestricted Vertical Climb from my driveway as part of the U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptors ~Alaska Polar Force Exercise 2022- it really caught me off guard because I live near Ted Stevens International and the massive boom I heard was not like anything I am used to coming from the cargo jets. The next thing I know is there is a Raptor flying vertical right in front of me. The butt pucker factor must be intense inside the cockpit of these beasts.
That's a memory you'll enjoy for a long time.
I work on an airfield and sometimes when I am near large hangers spaced far apart, the sound echoing between the hangers makes for an eerie sound when jets or turbine powers rotor wings pass by.
The Sound of Freedom, never evil. Love seeing and hearing them everyday (well mon thru Friday) go Air Force, go 1st Fighter Wing

+Blue Angel #6 Yup ,because they both have P&W JT8D engines except the -200s use the older JT8D-7 variant engines which are loud engines (Stage II noise) Where as the MD-80s use the newer JT8D-200 engines (Stage III noise) meaning way quieter the Stage II engines.
