- APM 2.8 is not an original board and is a modified clone which is made by Chinese manufacturers. It has an internal compass and can connect external compass. I searched a lot on the internet for enabling the external compass and disable the internal compass. it has some difference than APM 2.5 which also comes with the internal compass because we need to cut the PCB trace to disable its internal compass. But in 2.8 it only needs to change a jumper configuration. And in some cases we cant activate its external mag by changing this J2 jumper. For these situations please follow this instruction to enable external compass which comes with the GPS module.

I did same and work fine but loiter mode not working drone moves up and down
I have solder both any solution thank you
Is your external compass works fine. And if it changes the altitude maybe it is coz of the barometer calibration error or due to baro complaint. And did you tried some pid settings.

on apm 2.8 you dont need to solder the board, thats for apm 2.5. in 2.8 just remove jumper and plug the wire to compass port below gps port. watch this video ruclips.net/video/GRpQS4zW7ds/видео.html

Hi bro even i also build a quad copter using apm 2.8 but i didn't un solder the jumpers. In initial stages of my flight trails when i try to use land option in flyght mode my quad flew away from me. And 2 nd time when i try to fly with tower app i totally lost control over it and it flew vegaorsely and crashed and i lost my gps. Now after getting a new gps when i try to calibrate my apm by removing j2 jumper from 1st place the dots were not appeared on the screen same happend when i placed jumper in 3rd position. Again i re connected the j2 jumper to 1st position then points were collected. So what should i do now. Will my quad works well if i do these settings plz replay me bro. Which helps me a lot plz plz plz replay me after seeing it

please don't buy APM2.8, it was depreciated half a decade ago. Upgrade your hardware
Tom Pittenger we are poor bro thats why we buy this type of hardware
Tom Pittenger , what is the better option ? which flight controller are you using ?
bad video quality but great job for the worst camera handling
