Spoke about Punk for less than 2 minutes, yet thats the title for the video and doesn't acknowledge anything else he spoke about lol. Punk told his side of this OVW story, Tony seemed ignorant to the talent and not knowing Punk was already on the main roster.
The Irony is Punk considered himself Old School in AEW and got upset the younger wrestlers didn't treat him the same way and approach him for advice. This was actually well known before his infamous backstage punch up with The Young Bucks.
I don't believe CM Punk had no respect for the past when all he's ever done is pay homage to wrestlers a generation or two before him. I think Tony Atlas thought he was a jabroni and treated him like one. According to Punk Atlas didn't even know he was ECW Champion.
Because Punk says something doesn't mean its true or he believes it. He said he was going to be with the WWE for a long time and he wasn't going anywhere when he resigned in 2011. He was gone soon after. He said he was never going to return to WWE he currently is employed by WWE. So if he says something doesn't mean its going to happen. He had/has no respect for anyone except himself so what he says is only to enhance himself. So if saying he is old school is beneficial to him he will say it. And he will play it out until it isnt helpful to him anymore. But you see by the actions he showed Tony Atlas he didn't respect him because he thought Tony was just a muscle head who was fed a career and who had everything handed to hm. Which is partially true but if Tony couldn't keep up he would have been dumped off much more sooner. So Punk disrespected Tony because he didn't think Tony was a real wrestler and just a muscle head with no brains. Which shows you why he is always fighting for a spot himself. No one believes Punk will do what the company wants or needs from him. So he has to prove if he still can be someone who the company relies on.
Punk is also a lot more old school than people realize…he talks about being an old school style guy in the modern era, he was the last, along with Daniel Bryan, to be on the Indy circuit at at time when it was little to no Indy scene n made a name for himself being self trained to a certain extent…another part of me also feels that he felt that he was being cast aside by being sent to ovw when he thought they wanted to bring him up to the main roster or at least ECW…so when he got to OVW, he was super bitter and I think that’s kinda where punk started to get the reputation of being a “punk” in real life…but people mold into who they are today based on their past experiences nobody is that way when they first born, there gotta be an action to make u react like that…I also think he went the hbk way where he was never respected or liked so when he finally got his opportunity, he rubbed it in everyone’s face…same with punk 🤷
You're actually correct about his being bitter when he came to OVW. I was there when he got there and his attitude was way different than when I met him in the indies just two years before
