Just amazing.. I don't understand people who complain about violinists' facial expressions and movements. Listen with your ears. And the faces and movements aren't created for show. They happen when you let music absolutely posess you as some of these amazing musicians do. You're missing the whole point if you're here to watch a visually pleasing performance.
Maxim Vengerov is the absolute top of violin players. For a while my favorite was Isaac Stern, but this Vengerov beats him and ALL other players in history. His technique is superb, his interpretation unriveled his passion unique. Have you heard his interpretation of the first violin concerto of the red devil Paganini? This man is the greatest, now, as compared to the past AND probably forever in the future. What a bliss to be able to listen to his playing.
From the words of my teacher: "Vengerov is the most talented violinist out there right now." My opinion also coincides with this (although I would have to agree that there have been greater violinists in the past). Thanks for posting this clip.
Envied? Only if you desire what others possess. I just love knowing he is this great. It makes me feel a love for the human spirit. Majestic pride is as good a description as I can make for this feeling. The best word to describe anyone attacking this man is 'evil'.
Actually, Heifetz was known for using little pressure in his playing, which accounts for his very light and elegant sound. As was mentioned in "The Art of Violin," Heifetz generated much of his sound through horizontal speed of the bow. Although your judgment is clearly off, I do agree with you that too much pressure on the bow causes the sound to feel unnaturally heavy.
yeah yeah okay. My favourite violinists are: Maxim Vengerov, Yehudi Menuhin, Maxim Rysanov, Itzhak Perlman, Julian Rachlin, Isaac Stern, and Jascha Heifetz. But for this particulat video, I'm just saying that he rocks, and is my personal favourite (and the youngest most heard of).
C'mon.... It's the 3rd movement of this concert.... not the first..... P.s for me, i like his play very much... because it's never boring to hear... i can imagine a story for each pieces of him... and that's incredibile...
Lol, I meant that I can only find excerpts from the francescatti, and that's all that i can find of him. But I've watched Perlman on youtube ages ago. Thanx tho! ;)
WOW!!! The thing I'm most impressed with is the audio quality of this actual performance, if it actually IS the audio from this performance. I THINK it is. I already expected the performance of this group to be spectacular, and it definitely delivered, but the corresponding audio is outstanding, which I wouyldnt expect from just an "unmixed? unproduced? rehearsal session. Im sure there had to be alot of production on this video. It sounds too good just to be a camera mic or similar.
for "henryprost" If you were a violin player, you would know:moving helps to do more expression in the piece. I believe Vengerov's motions are true. I mean he doesn't give oneself airs. by the way too much moving is better then too less.
Th motion you are talking about is the motion of a piece, not the player himself. If the physical motions helps the musical motion then it is considered acceptable. As for moving to put his feelings into a piece, it actually hurts twice: 1. it distracts the audience, and 2. it affects the direction and amount of pressure applied in various parts of the violin. while Vengerov does play miraculously, he admits himself that his playing is more performance than skill.
he is great... even dough he is maybe tense or the violin sounds scratchy, is because he is using a little bit more force then u are used to... all this things make up the artists style... u don't like, u don't watch! he has his good parts and his bad parts. but he is good
I think that if a violonist arrives to play concertos like the Wieniawski's 2nd here he has all the rights to criticize some things about violonists, we all know he's a great violonist and that's what I said if you can read frensh, but the point wasn't the playing it was something about his way of playing, I love Vengerov's playing and I know about playing violin it's not you who's gona teach me what damed thing is about playing violin
Can you answer me why Maxim Vengerov is much more famous than Raphael Oleg?I don't want to tell you why beacause you will tell me probably that I'm 99% wrong.
i disagree. i had a teacher once say that moving too much is like trying to land a 747 on a ship in the middle of a rainstorm. An appropriate amount of movement is good. Too much is distracting and may actually hurt your playing. BTW: This is the 3rd movement of Saint Saens, not the first.
the way you let the music "flow through you" is by being relaxed with your instrument and removing tension. look at the musicians in this orchestra - not one of them is moving. by your definition then, would you say they are inexpressive because music obviously can't "flow through them" in that relaxed state? woudl you say heifetz, horowitz, oistrakh, rubinstein, milstien, menuhin are inexpressive. they are masters because they have removed physical impediments and tension from their playing
For vint22: I hope you will learn one day not to insult the great masters. Evryone has his taste, and can express their opinion but not with insults.Thank you.
cchamp27... you are very very wrong! If you want to live with the memories of your "best" violinist of the past is OK. But don't tell me that Kremer, Shaham, Bell, Chuanyun Li (among others) are not truly masters of the violin because they don't "focus" their whole energy into playing the violin but also into making faces and grimaces.
i don't think vengerov does it on purpose. those faces are organic its not forced. im not sure if you play violin, but if i saw you play, im sure i could point out habits that you may have or things you do with your face or your movements.
something about watching virtuoso's makes me so envious which is an emotion i hate to feel but cant deny the obvious this guy is great, and he looks little stupid when he plays but that neither here nor there lol
If you have true mastery of an instrument, you should be able to channel all of your emotion into it, and not be left over with this pent-up energy that you have to dance around and grimace in order to get out. Think of the best instrumentalists in the history of men, Jascha Heifetz, David Oistrakh, Vladimir Horowitz. 100% of the time they have straight faces, and stand or sit completely still. No performers of the past ever went over the top. Excessive movement is a substitution for expression
crazy facial expressions and body gestures like this actually sell performers, as stupid as i think that is. i am rather stiff when i play but that's just my personality. my teachers are always trying to get me to do this silly acrobatics and theatrics.
And stop criticizing his facial expressions. That is such a proof of your petit bourgeois stance; it is ridiculous to even mention it. Come on! Show a bit more grandiosity in your appreciation!
actually I like his facial expressions A LOT!!!
He seems very transparent with the music, showing how he's feeling while playing. Such a great violinist.
here is a man who feels the emotion of the music on every level. just amazing

Vengerov iS the Best player ever!!! Virtuoso, Always!
Awesome Vengerov!

This is absolutely the best performance ever, does anyone know where to find the full version ??

The best recording of all!AMAZING, INCREDIBLE , SUPERB!!!!
vengerov plays it amazingly.
Envied? Only if you desire what others possess. I just love knowing he is this great. It makes me feel a love for the human spirit. Majestic pride is as good a description as I can make for this feeling. The best word to describe anyone attacking this man is 'evil'.

Sublime! Between 2:00-2:30 gave me goose bumps. And this is only a rehearsal. Wow! I adore Vengerov.
yeah yeah okay.
AMAZING AS USUAL !!!
Vengerov, Sharp, Virtuoso!!!
Ever amazing!
Fantastic. Some daunting up-bow fast passages, but always musical. To be envied. A good recording of the orchestra.

incredibile.. adoro Vengerov!!
Wonderful
Lol, I meant that I can only find excerpts from the francescatti, and that's all that i can find of him. But I've watched Perlman on youtube ages ago. Thanx tho! ;)
Vengerov is great. He istotally in his playing;! Bravo Vengerov;
its the philharmonia orchestra.
I love him and the orchestra sounds really FAT i love it
semplicemente FANTASTICO!!!
his violin playing "was" incredible
what a great conductor!
Soo Amazing!!!A brilant Talent Virtuso!
It seemed like Vengarov was trying to blow the roof off that place.
I think he came pretty close.
THE GREATEST!!!
WOW!!! The thing I'm most impressed with is the audio quality of this actual performance, if it actually IS the audio from this performance. I THINK it is. love his facial expression
it makes me laugh
he enjoys the music so much. Great bow technique!
Lol, I have already seen him play both versions on youtube. I also have two different versions on his EMI cds.
Mitico!!!
Vengerov.. gracias!
Maxim Vengerov ist genius!!!!!!!
the sound is flying.. what limits are you talking about??
gorgeous :)
bravo
Yeah. I like Perlman's speed on La Ronde des Lutins, but unfortunately I can only find excerpts for Zino Francescatti's version :(
yes, exceptional.
Awesome!!!Virtuoso...
Maxim,please come back!
That was just awesome. Thanks for posting this. ;-)
the best violinist after heifetz!
The Next generation of virtuoso.
YEAH
philharmonia- it says in the descript.
FOR REAL. I agree with everything you said. HE MOVES TOO MUCH!!!
suerte!!!
my personality is quite normal.
cheers, Maxim Vengerov
p.s. I was stoned the day it was recorded, therefore my countenance. I shouldn't smoke so much.
Vengerov is great. He istotally in his playing;! Bravo Vengerov; this recording is in 2006. How is he now in 2011...Any new recordings..?
for "henryprost"
If you were a violin player, you would know:moving helps to do more expression in the piece. I believe Vengerov's motions are true. I mean he doesn't give oneself airs. by the way too much moving is better then too less.
Maxim does not do them on purpose, the violin makes each person move in a certain way, hes no poser.
just brilliant, in almost all aspects.
lol did any of you guys see that the base player might be wearin the same shirt as Vengerov? xD
Th motion you are talking about is the motion of a piece, not the player himself. If the physical motions helps the musical motion then it is considered acceptable. Face expression?? Stop complaining and don't fucking watch it. JUST LISTEN TO HIS MARVELOUS SOUND! COME ON GUYS!!!
he is great... even dough he is maybe tense or the violin sounds scratchy, is because he is using a little bit more force then u are used to... all this things make up the artists style... u don't like, u don't watch! he has his good parts and his bad parts. but he is good
It's the best recording as long as you don't actually watch him (or for me at least). It puts me off
the music isn't hard at all. He didn't press on the G string and sounds great. Very great techniques. BRAVO!!
@Volunteers4awesome what happened to him to make him from playing any more?????It's a pity!
I think that if a violonist arrives to play concertos like the Wieniawski's 2nd here he has all the rights to criticize some things about violonists, we all know he's a great violonist and that's what I said if you can read frensh, but the point wasn't the playing it was something about his way of playing, I love Vengerov's playing and I know about playing violin it's not you who's gona teach me what damed thing is about playing violin
hes fun to look at. in a ngood way
This is Saint-Saens Concerto #3 3rd mov., not "1er mov.". Thanks for the video!
Hmm.. Ya'll, I dunno.. I just say: YOU try playing it.
Exacto!!,musica es escuchar.-
No is not true.He is one of the best in the history.
LOL! How far does the conductor's arse stick out at 2:01?!! HAHAH! Yeah, but nah he's cool. AND Vengerov is the greatest violinist alive!
Can you answer me why Maxim Vengerov is much more famous than Raphael Oleg?I don't want to tell you why beacause you will tell me probably that I'm 99% wrong.

I was wondering the same thing
Was this a recording session or a rehearsal for a concert (or both)?
Recording session
@NiutamUkGeDoru yeah, a bit off, but it was just a rehearsal

do you play even half of what vengerov can do?
gnatural they can’t even do 5%
- he works out
it's his 1727 kreutzer stradivarius
something about watching virtuoso's makes me so envious which is an emotion i hate to feel but cant deny the obvious this guy is great, and he looks little stupid when he plays but that neither here nor there lol

@jhendricks316 You choppy boy. Just try his playing and you'll probably understand....much later...
Maybe, but for you what"s it's ugly.. the music, the interpretation?? or maybe your
frustrations????
