  • Metabolic therapy is supported by a vast amount of research and publications. It is promoted by scientists like Dr. Thomas Seyfried, and exploits the finding that cancer cells can only ferment glucose and glutamine as their fuel for growth and survival.
While healthy cells can generate large amounts of energy through oxidative phosphorylation of glucose, cancer cells have defective mitochondria and can only use fermentation for a low yield of energy.
While healthy cells can also use ketones, which are generated by the liver in the absence of sufficient carbohydrates, cancer cells cannot use this fuel.
Ketogenic diets have had success for some cancers that are heavily dependent on glucose. The research by Dr. Seyfried showed however that some cancers can also ferment glutamine, a nonessential amino acid. Therefore, cutting out glucose by placing the patient on a ketogenic diet and intermittently blocking, or continuously reducing glutamine through medications like DON or supplements like green tea extract or berberine
can by itself, or in combination with low dose chemotherapy eradicate cancer cells.
Always discuss any changes in diet, supplements or medications with your treating physician/oncologist.
