A common recommendation by the manufacturers for EGCG is 1800 mg of green tea extract daily which has 45% EGCG. There is not much research on appropriate dosing, but in general, the manufacturers will push for the highest dose within safety margins to sell as much of the product as possible.
White tea is an excellent choice. Very high in antioxidants. As for green tea, the Japanese studies generally showed people drinking upwards of 10 small cups daily.
What is the ideal amount of green tea per day? I drink 2 cups of organic oolong greent tea a day. Should i drink more. Cancer survivor, serious about preventing recurrences.
In Japanese studies, they found that drinking 10 or more Japanese sized cups per day Showed a significant decrease in cancer rates. You could also consider supplementing with EGCG at the dose recommended by the manufacturer.
Thank you kindly! This is not an official recommendation, but I am using 600 to 1200 mg green tea extract standardized to 45% EGCG 5 days per week. I also have one to 2 cups of. Brewed green tea per day. If you take in too much, EGCG, it can become toxic to liver.
@@JonasKuehneMD your answers mean so much since I am trying to fight my prostate C holistically after going to MSK and they say that dietary intake has nothing to do with it nor can it affect it which is insane!
It’s difficult to find exact doses in the literature. The study from Japan shows that 10 Japanese sized cups daily or more significantly lower risk of cancer. As it comes to EGCG supplements, most manufacturers recommend 1200-1800mg of green tea extract with 45% EGCG.

Your treating physician should work with you on several modalities that can improve your cancer. Many times this is a mix of traditional treatments, like chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy, together with nutritional therapy like metabolic therapy (ketogenic diet and glutamine lowering supplements) and additionally high dose vitamin C IV’s can be used as they can selectively kill cancer cells, but also decrease the side effects and increase the effectiveness of chemotherapy.

The EGCG supplement will be more concentrated. Some caution is advised because if you take too much it could cause liver damage. Green tea will have less, but it’s also safer.
From the Web: Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a flavonoid found in green tea, can inhibit glutamine metabolism and uptake, which can help prevent the growth and survival of cancer cells: Glutamine metabolism EGCG can inhibit glutaminase, an enzyme that plays a role in glutamine metabolism. EGCG can also inhibit glutamate dehydrogenase 1, which promotes the metabolism of glutamine and glutamate to generate ATP. Glutamine uptake EGCG can inhibit glutamine uptake, which can disrupt glutamine utilization. Tumor growth EGCG can inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells, such as MCF-7, LnCaP, and MDA-MB-231.
As far as I understood in several explanations, green tea blocks uptake of glutamine in most of all the cells, but, the cells can usually overcome that, it only has a very destructive effect on cancer cells because they are limited in their energy production capacity. Some suggest that this tea should not be used every day of the week. Therefore the expression press/pulse. Press glucose and pulse the glutamine to avoid harming other body functions.

Good morning, Dr. Kuehne, and greetings from Taipei, Taiwan! About green tea and prostate cancer: do you know of any scientific (or even anecdotal) evidence of green tea consumption either reducing a PSA number or stopping it from increasing? Thank you!
Hello to Taipei! Thank you for your comment. I have not seen literature specifically looking at a decrease in PSA from consuming green tea or its active ingredient EGCG. The supplements that help specifically for this are Saw Palmetto and Pygeum. Green tea can be however helpful in decreasing the risk of a variety of cancers.
@@danielvillarreal6610 "Anti-Cancer Effects of Green Tea Polyphenols Against Prostate Cancer" "3.1.,Therefore, first, we introduce the relationship between EGCG and tumor growth in PC. By using in vitro studies, many investigators have shown that EGCG suppressed tumor growth of androgen-sensitive (LNCaP and CWR22Rv1) and androgen-independent PC cells (DU-145 and PC-3 cells) in a dose-dependent manner [30,31,32,33,34,35]. In addition, another study showed that EGCG suppressed cell proliferation of androgen-sensitive LNCaP 104-S, androgen-independent LNCaP 104-R1, and androgen-adapted LNCaP R1Ad cells in both the presence and absence of androgen [36]. Furthermore, EGCG inhibited the growth of hormone-refractory C4-2 cells that were able to grow in hormone-free medium [35]. Data on the relationship between cell proliferation and EGC, ECG, or EC in PC in vitro are limited. However, EGCG, ECG, and EGC, but not EC, have been reported to have significant inhibitory effects on cell proliferation in DU145 cells [34]. Interestingly, the same study also showed that the suppressive effect was in the order ECG > EGCG > EGC [34]. Thus, a general agreement is that EGCG can inhibit the growth of PC cells regardless of androgen-dependency in vitro. More detailed studies are necessary to determine the anti-proliferative effect of other components of GTPs."
Toxico- and pharmacokinetic evidence further suggests internal dose of catechins is a key determinant in the occurrence and severity of hepatotoxicity. A safe intake level of 338 mg EGCG/day for adults was derived from toxicological and human safety data for tea preparations ingested as a solid bolus dose. An Observed Safe Level (OSL) of 704 mg EGCG/day might be considered for tea preparations in beverage form based on human AE data.
Not necessarily. Your own body makes glutamine as it is a non-essential amino acid. For leaky gut I would suggest a gluten-free diet and glucosamine supplement
I was doubting if I must give protein powder with glutamine to my mother because she has stomach cancer. I don't know how to act because maybe she needs to improve her digestive tissue with glutamine or maybe she needs to fight cancerous cells with green tea. Some advices?
Cancer cells can only ferment glucose and glutamine. Glutamine is a non-essential amino acids that our own body produces. There are some supplements that decrease the uptake of glutamine. That couples with a ketogenic diet is essentially metabolic therapy and something that you could explore together with your treating physician. I did a video about this that you can find in my video library. Adding glutamine as a supplement may therefore not be advisable as again it is one of the only two substrates that cancer cells can use. One further treatment that is often used together with traditional treatments like chemotherapy is high dose, intravenous vitamin C it can kill cancer cells via production of hydrogen peroxide that cancer cells cannot break down. Studies have also shown that intravenous vitamin C can increase the effectiveness of chemotherapy and decrease its side effects. Again, any of these modalities should be discussed with the treating physician.
Plantains and beans are rich in carbs. It depends on what your dietary goals are. If you want to be on a ketogenic diet, then these two foods would not be good.
@JonasKuehneMD Thank you for your response. I am trying to get rid of bladder cancer that's why I asked. I don't know what else to eat since I have given up all other simple carbs. Fish and meat are expensive in my country and avocado isn't yet in season.
I have been taking it for year but I would say it not totally diminished there's still some risk imo. So you should cycle like 3-4 day on 400mg then 200mg for 3-4 day and occasionally one day off. And take some liver support like magnesium, NAC(this one need cycle otherwise you will get anhedonia), milk thistle, lycopene, cholorogenic acid.
@rupertbear9116 they combine very pleasantly. The better quality green tees don't have that bitter taste, in my taste- testing. I had a box of earl grey I wasn't fond of, mixed with a green tea bag it's quite good. I don't advise using 3 green tea bags at once to get your 3 for a day in. The tannins are too strong & it made me sick. If you use 2 tea bags, also make sure to use 2 big cups of water!
If inflammation is the product of the body's immune system attacking an infection, why should we be concerned about suppressing inflammation ... knowing that if the immune system is successful the inflammation will decrease naturally as the infection is mitigated ???
Short term inflammation after a workout or during an infection is helpful. Chronic prolonged inflammation is problematic and can cause disease initiation and progression.
I am undergoing cancer therapy. Be careful people. If your undergoing cancer treatments, antioxidants protect all cells and do not discriminate, they will protect cancer cells as well, otherwise antioxidants are great for “prevention.”
Glucose and glutamine are the main fuels. Cutting out glucose via a ketogenic diet and decreasing the uptake of glutamine through supplements or medication is essentially metabolic therapy. It is one of the modes that can be used to together with others to have a more successful outcome. It can, of course, be combined with chemotherapy and or high dose vitamin C infusions. It is important to discuss any of these modalities with your treating physician.
@@JonasKuehneMD yes of course it’s multi factorial. But the title and video just clickbate adoes not provide that disclaimer but is misleading. Much of the research on the virtues of green tea is from China.
I love it BUT can we please start adding the fact that cancer cells can also survive on a ketogenic diet/ without glucose consumption? They can adapt their metabolism to fit even ketones (I guess this is not true for all cancers, but still). I always hear the basic point of "cancer eats glucose" but it's not that simple! Still keto has many benefits.
You are correct, it is not that simple. The two main fuels of cancer cells are glucose and glutamine. The theory that cancer can evolve to feed on ketones has not been proven as far as I’m aware. This is because the mitochondria are defective in cancer cells. Fermentation seems to be the only way to generate energy.

Interesting topic. Fenbendazole and ivermectin have sparked scientific research due to their anti-cancer properties. RUclips is currently strictly regulating this space.
FYI This is a very good research paper detailing fenbendazole anticancer properties including inhibition of glucose uptake, tumor suppressor p53 activation, cell arrest, and apoptosis. Don't take Tylenol while on fenbendazole. "Fenbendazole acts as a moderate microtubule destabilizing agent and causes cancer cell death by modulating multiple cellular pathways" ...Simultaneously, it caused mitochondrial translocation of p53 and effectively inhibited glucose uptake, expression of GLUT transporters as well as hexokinase (HK II) - a key glycolytic enzyme that most cancer cells thrive on... ...In this study, we show that fenbendazole (FZ) exhibits a moderate microtubule depolymerizing activity towards human cancer cells, but possesses a potent antitumor effect as evident from in vitro and in vivo experiments. Our results indicate that FZ exerts its antitumor effect through the disruption of microtubule dynamics, p53 activation and the modulation of genes involved in multiple cellular pathways. FZ treatment also resulted in reduced glucose uptake in cancer cells due to down regulation of GLUT transporters and key glycolytic enzymes.

How about the recommended dosages when you want to fight active cancer? I mean, at what dosages we are speaking about actively fighting cancer?
A common recommendation by the manufacturers for EGCG is 1800 mg of green tea extract daily which has 45% EGCG.
There is not much research on appropriate dosing, but in general, the manufacturers will push for the highest dose within safety margins to sell as much of the product as possible.

The EGCG supplement will be more concentrated. Some caution is advised because if you take too much it could cause liver damage. Green tea will have less, but it’s also safer.
EGCG “blocks the uptake of glutamine “. In just cancer cells…… or ALL cells?
From the Web:
Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a flavonoid found in green tea, can inhibit glutamine metabolism and uptake, which can help prevent the growth and survival of cancer cells:
Glutamine metabolism
EGCG can inhibit glutaminase, an enzyme that plays a role in glutamine metabolism. EGCG can also inhibit glutamate dehydrogenase 1, which promotes the metabolism of glutamine and glutamate to generate ATP.
Glutamine uptake
EGCG can inhibit glutamine uptake, which can disrupt glutamine utilization.
Tumor growth
EGCG can inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells, such as MCF-7, LnCaP, and MDA-MB-231.

"Anti-Cancer Effects of Green Tea Polyphenols Against Prostate Cancer"
"3.1.,Therefore, first, we introduce the relationship between EGCG and tumor growth in PC.
Does EGCG cause liver damage?
At high amounts, it can cause elevated liver enzymes.
Healthy but what about all the fluoride in EGCG?!
The amount of fluoride and green tea may be slightly higher than in black tea, but still very low, and in my opinion does not post a significant risk.

Most manufacturers recommend between 1200 and 1800 mg of 75% EGCG. This is not medical advice. There are some liver issues at high amounts.

Not necessarily. Your own body makes glutamine as it is a non-essential amino acid.
For leaky gut I would suggest a gluten-free diet and glucosamine supplement
I took it extensively ended up with colon cancer

And take some liver support like magnesium, NAC(this one need cycle otherwise you will get anhedonia), milk thistle, lycopene, cholorogenic acid.

I don’t have my spleen, so I have that going against me.
Large amounts of green tea or EGCG can be difficult for the liver. A few cups of green tea or a moderate dose of a supplement should still be OK.

Cancer also uses iron.
Everything we eat actually turns into glucose, and our body produces glutathione naturally.
