Congratulations to Dr. Seyfried for developing clinical strategies to exploit the dependency of many/most cancer cells on anaerobic metabolism. The dependence of cancer cells on sugar and glutamine for energy has been known for several decades and remains an area of exciting research. A few comments for context. 1. The genetic basis of cancer development is indeed complicated but is supported by enormous, incontrovertible evidence (inherited cancer syndromes, highly successful cancer treatments by drugs that target genetically altered oncogenes, gene transplantation experiments, etc). 2. Anaerobic metabolism is often driven by cancer mutations (ras mutations, braf mutations, ckit mutations, etc), so these two important drivers of malignant tumors are not mutually exclusive). 3. Special diets (sugar and amino acid restriction) and metabolic inhibitors that block anaerobic metabolism can suppress cancers (very important) but do not cure cancers - at least not yet. I hope Dr. Seyfried acknowledges that thousands of cancer researchers around the world are actively studying the metabolic basis of cancer, testing novel drugs, and working on new treatment strategies.
When patients ask their oncologist about metabolic approaches to their treatment they are told either that’s not how cancer works or we can only offer standard of care. Patients can even be “fired” for implementing their own adjunct protocols alongside standard of care.
The dogma of pink ribbons, surgery, chemo and genetic research paradigms is a powerful totem pole for millions of people (professionals and patients). Tom Seyfried represents a new paradigm for contemporary healthcare professionals - is this disease inevitable and genetic or......can we take responsibility for our own health, nutrition and fitness? We don't wait for a dentist every morning coming to brush our teeth! Similarly every single person who is currently fit and well has a responsibility to become well-informed about their future self. There is no law that mandates regular muffin & soda consumption every 3 hours...this a marketing ploy started by cereal manufacturers. The idea that "best" care in many parts of the world mandates radiation and chemotherapy is a paradigm that may finally have met it's match. Restricting types of food intake, fasting, hyperbaric chambers, root-cause analysis of cancer - this lecture has started my chase down the rabbit hole for all of my patients I see from today onwards. Thanks CrossFit and thanks Dr Seyfried!
Don't know what you mean about a totem pole...but I find all that "ribbon stuff" and the INSIPID "Race for the Cure" to be NAUSEATING...and WELL worth DEFEATING!!!
I've been listening to him for years. Love the guy and have learned a lot. Been doing keto and OMAD for a few years. Haven't been sick and am never really hungry. People that have to eat all the time drive me crazy. I call it "recreational" eating!
Here some data on keto. ☺️😃😀 I was radiated, then Temador all while exercising and 20 grams of carbs a day. Now they are saying I’m in remission Feb 4 is 2 years since diagnosis and my last 4 scans only showed damage from radiation.
I was poisoned and radiated and knew it was wrong, but I was told that if I had the tumor surgically removed I had to have radiation. She said that was the rule. I knew it was wrong. I was fine after the surgery and could have recovered. But radiation knocked me flat for at least five years.
radiation kills more than it saves. I would never do it. Instead I would starve myself/ the cancer and let my healthy cells get fed from my ketones/ fat. This is the essence of this research. This is how our bodies developed. We'd kill an animal eat it and store the energy as fat. We'd then begin to starve until we found another animal to kill days later. Sedentiary lives have us processing less oxygen per day (this is the cause of flipping a healthy cell to cancerous - Otto Warburgs Nobel prize discovery) and then fridges and prcessed foods have us constantly fed. So were creating the conditions in our body for cancer to exist and then feeding the cancers growth by our sugar/carb based diets. The solution is simple. Breathe more, eat healthy and intermittant fast.... cut the carbs and sugars and if you get cancer you need to go more drastic - get into ketosis then introduce high fat / low protein diet. PS Im no DR. This is merely me regurgitating what I've learned. Research and follow Dr Seyfried.
@@justanother240 Great question. Standard of care says the cancer could still be in ones blood. Even under detection limits and the cancer wil come back. I've already had full body radiation for leukemia 3 years ago. Hour on one side and hour on other, they turned me around like a rotoicery chicken. Lost every hair on my body and 30 lbs of pure muscle. Now I look like a skeleton compared to the soilder I did look like. Still it all saved my life with a stem cell/bone marrow transplant. Now they want to shot focused radiation onto my lungs for 6 weeks, 15 mins a day. I have nk idea what to do. SLMH!!

As an RN and a former biochemistry P.H.d. major at BU med school in 1979 I never believed chemo and radiation were the answer to curing cancer. In those days AZT and total breast and muscle removal for a diagnosis of breast cancer were the Rx.. Those treatments have gone the way of the horse and buggy. It is too slow for present day cancer Rx to change but it will.
Exactly our 14 year old daughter had medulloblastoma. She underwent 5 hard chemotherapy and when she was literally dying from it the doctors at children’s hospital of Philadelphia decided we should move to radiation. She had high dose radiation. Well guess what the evil thing came back. It was decided to move to stem cell therapy. She had hers banked. She had the stem cell treatment and only lived for 9 months longer. Albeit her life was destroyed by these therapies. Tumor came back and she passed at 20. Poor kid endured all that horrible treatment and it really did NOTHING but take her life

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't normal cells need glutamine too. Wouldn't inhibiting glutamine levels in the entire body be too toxic to use as cancer therapy???
Yes. Glutamine is necessary, but too much glutamine turns into a buffet for cancer cells. This is why a doctor and glutamine monitoring are critical. The doctors won’t do it.
On a reel I watched from Prof. Seyfried, cancer cells are not as strong, so they will falter before your healthy cells do. Eventually, your healthy cells will look for a new source of energy and start devouring the cancer cells. This can be allowed to happen if you cut out sugar. (This is the simplified version from an average human being lol) Correct me if I am wrong.

Dr Boz has a diet that follows his work and has the Dr Boz Ratio. Fasting and ultra low calorie are some of the ideas she talks about in her book on how she cured cancer in her mom. Glucose divided by ketones is the ratio and 20 and below is where cancer patients are supposed to get to in order to help.
How's she doing? Hope she is doing great... I would have feed her LCHF diet..., that includes high quality red meat (non-processed) etc... fatty fish is also awesome! Just say NO to any form of sugar! occasional fruit is fine... our ancestors ate fruits whenever they get the chance. All the best to both of you!
The ketogenic diet restricts carbs to 20-50 gms a day, which means no sugar or breads, rice ,potatoes, beans or other legumes. Fatty meats and fish and eggs are sources of fat with f-protein-carbs in the ration of 75-20-5%
Let me simplify this for you, treating cancer with antifungals or antiparasitics always works. Treat cancer like a parasitic invasion, think of fungi overgrowth as parasites, it was reported in the 90s that cancer is caused by parasites. Both fungi and cancer produce lactic acid, so cancer must treated like a fungal condition. Cancer is acidosis, high acid levels lower oxygen levels. Cancer can't thrive in an alkaline, oxygen rich environment. Otto Warburg.

Sometimes it really makes me wonder, why is the medical field so different from what these Biochemistry Experts tell us??? I am really hooked to listening to Dr Thomas Seyfried and Dr Barrie Tan. Why can't the Medical Arena follow the Biochemistry Guidelines to treat and cure diseases? Why is our healthcare all about money and profits? For example, cancer cure! I can stay in ketosis if I don't use insulin, but then my blood glucose is too elevated to maintain (over 200 but less than 300). Do I have to wait until I am less insulin resistant before I can successfully enter ketosis and stay there? Someone please help. I don't know what to do.
People are afraid of their autonomy. They don't want responsibility for responsibility. This underscores a phenomenon too common in many domains. The cult of experts, who actually know nothing important- just a ton of irrelevant data. The million dollar question is,.................when you're afraid, what will you do? What you're told by the professional mob, to avoid the chance of ridicule and pity, from authorities, and laymen who follow, and don't want your behavior to invalidate their choices. Or, .............your own, less informed, but, perhaps correct opinion, with the upside of your life, but no validation from anyone else. Who do you live and die for? And you may find your foes among your loved ones. Alas, the conundrum for the independent man.
I used to call that "food", but today I call it junk. Only God can make real food -- fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds -- that's what real food is. But the junk that man makes is deadly and it kills people. When I was a kid I ate all that garbage, but now as an adult I'm vegan and I eat the foods that God made on a daily basis and I feel a thousand times better.

This is a very interesting lecture. My best friends gf has late stage lung cancer with metastasis who knows where. Been to different hospitals and no one tells her anything or explains the procedure of treatment which has left her feeling afraid and full of regret. She had chronic pain before and no one knows why, but she used to be very active in spite of it. Now she can hardly walk. What canbe done from home? Is ut possible to block glutamine without prescription medicine? This is Germany so the system might be a bit different. Alternative doctors only offer expensive treatment she can't afford.

DAMN, my (long) reply disappeared!! A few are: Sodium Bicarb (as cancer tends to thrive in an acidic environment); Carrot and Cilantro juicing (powerful detoxification); Very hot baths...as normal, healthy tissue is MUCH more tolerant of heat, than cancerous tissue; Most ANYTHING which supports the Immune System, such as Vitamin C and adrenal supplementation....and massage/Chiropractic.
And, yes, a Ketogenic Diet, as normal tissue can feed on Ketones, while cancerous tissue CAN NOT!!! /'And, you'll want to avoid white sugar...like the PLAGUE...no candy, soda pop, ice-cream...etc.!!!

What does ‘don’ means? Dr Seyfried is talking about fasting and don..? And In addition the question is: ‘is it better to really only drink water?” Or combine this with supplements like vitamine c, D , omega ? Because there are also researches who claim that there is a possibility is that ‘fasting plus high dose votamine C’ Is very effective.
DON, or 6-diazo-5-oxo-L-norleucine, is a naturally occurring small molecule that has been studied for its potential in cancer therapy. It inhibits the enzyme glutaminase, which plays a role in cancer cell metabolism. This inhibition might slow the growth of certain types of cancer cells.
My stage 4 cancer is a result of inflammatory oncotaxis. Get your surgery gone with 54 days of biopsy and if getting a mastectomy, just say NO to breast markers
Fasting or just fat. Glutamine is still essential just like blood glucose so you can reduce it but not remove it entirely. Prolonged fasts with keto or pure fat refeeds would help keep glutamine lowered. Some muscle exercise would help lower it as well. Matcha apparently does as well.

Yes, and with C Everett Koop’s flipping of the food pyramid with the base food being grains/carbs back in the 70’s has perpetuated it as well.
Outstanding lecture!
I've been listening to him for years. Love the guy and have learned a lot. Been doing keto and OMAD for a few years. Haven't been sick and am never really hungry. People that have to eat all the time drive me crazy. I call it "recreational" eating!
Absolutely amazing! Wish I knew this a few years ago.
I wish I knew this 2 years ago before my dear friend murdered by chemo and radiation 😭😭😭😭
Soo sorry
Here some data on keto. ☺️😃😀
I was radiated, then Temador all while exercising and 20 grams of carbs a day. Now they are saying I’m in remission Feb 4 is 2 years since diagnosis and my last 4 scans only showed damage from radiation.
In my opinion this is the most passionate presentation Prof Thomas Seyfried has given ❤
I love listening to him too!
Same here and its scary as hell!! And I'm 100% combat wounded Vet and nothing scares me!! Arrrg
What happens if you refuse treatment after getting the surgery?
SLMH!!
More care givers need to know this.
Thank you for keeping this message available.

Regularly receive requests from well meaning people to donate to cancer research. Not a believer the mainstream is on the right track with research, but I would gladly support an initiative furthering the theory within this video. No clue who that would be - welcome replies that identify such a research group/entity.
Rob, you may want to look into supporting Travis Christofferson's Foundation for Metabolic Therapies. They are trying to raise money for a full clinical trial of fasting and keto type therapies. Travis was the author of Tripping Over the Truth.
You can contact Dr. Thomas Seyfried and he will give you recommendations.
Thanks for the description. It helped me understand what he was saying

I learned that the cell nucleus is not the controlling factor about 20 years ago from Dr. Bruce Lipton's "The Biology of Belief."
If all doctors were like this, I'd have more respect for them.
Was wondering what to do against high body acidity, which occurs after doing keto for a while, negatively influences your liver and kidneys, like it happened in my case :/
Try going all the way to carnivore for 30 days, could be your answer.
Eat carbs, but only seasonally in the warmest two months of the year.
@@JaninesPlace I would eat the fruit & veggies that are currently 'in season' & non-gmo for all food. Carbs should not be more than 60 grams, daily as a rule on a low- carb diet. Good fats: avocado, olive oil, feta cheese, 4% cottage cheese, eggs, + 93/7 grass fed organic angus, walnuts, pecans, pistachios. Not excessive. Eat protein more.
@@JaninesPlace - In Ghana villages & Acra; Bishop Kanko gives success with a fast of ONLY lemon water for 40 days - kills every cancer cell in the body & not that hard to do after the first 4-5 days. (People not very hungry but not longer than 40 days.)

Still surprised how many times mitochondria are brought up without mentioning the details of melatonin metabolism though ...
Could you elaborate on that final point, please? :)

Cut out glucose (sugar and carbohydrates) and glutamine (take egcg, berberine, curcumine to suppress uptake).
Did they teach you that kemo therapy is agent orange, it did they leave that part out?
"...former biochemistry PH.d major" bahahahaha. Sure we'll listen to you.

@@thomasseyfried7451 thank you for the clarification. This is a fascinating subject
Yes. Glutamine is necessary, but too much glutamine turns into a buffet for cancer cells. This is why a doctor and glutamine monitoring are critical. The doctors won’t do it.
Hence the pulse. Intermittent based on what Dr Seyfried’s paper.

I have myelodysplastic syndrome and I need help because the only cure is a bone marrow transplant which, like Dr. Seyfried said, just another extremely toxic and harmful procedure with a very long hospital stay. When I show people pictures of the experience they gag because it was so gory.

Are there any cancers which can actually metabolize pure sugars and pure sugar alcohols such as allulose and erythritol, for example?
Do they increase glucose or glutamine in the system? If so, then yes.
Most cancers metabolize sugars, yes!!!
This is a very interesting lecture. I don't currently have time to do deep research, so assuming this theory is correct, what can a person do for themselves if they do not have access to a medical facility that offer this type of cancer treatment?
My best friends gf has late stage lung cancer with metastasis who knows where. Been to different hospitals and no one tells her anything or explains the procedure of treatment which has left her feeling afraid and full of regret.
