Peter Frampton - Back To Eden (Remastered)

  • "Back To Eden" was featured on Peter Frampton's "The Art Of Control" album (1982). According to him, he hates the album so much that he's never ever performed any of its tracks live and the album has yet to see a formal CD release (bootlegs of varying qualities abound). The songwriting on this track is superb; catchy, strong and nostalgic, all traits of previous Frampton fare, so I'll have to wonder what exactly does he hate about this album.
    The video has been remastered and the audio vastly improved. Enjoy and leave your comments!

    I still have the ticket stub to the best concert I've ever been to Oct. 5th 1982 Old Waldorf San Francisco $1.97 !!! He opened with this song, & played for over 2 hours! Final encore "Jumping Jack Flash". youngsters that went there for a free concert were blown away walking out shaking their heads in disbelief going "Peter Frampton ?!! WFT"

      Somehow, Frampton despises this album, despite having some amazing tunes that rival anything he's done since and after. He complains that "the record company" forced him to right a "commercial album". Commercial? His previous album sounds very much like "The Art Of Control" and never complains about that one.

    This album would have done a lot better commercially if MTV would have played the videos but they ignored it. None of the radio stations in my area played anything from the art of control either consequently no one knew Frampton has a new album. This is a great Frampton song, as good as anything else he has released.

    • @ecatalan98
      @ecatalan98  Год назад +2

      Totally agree bro! MTV did pit 2 videos: "Sleepwlak" and the amazing "Back To Eden", one of Frampton's best songs ever. Obviously, they pay those songs like 3 times and ERASED them from their list.
      It's a shame the Frampton himself has practically DISOWENED this album, which ironically has he same musical style as his previous album, "Breaking All The Rules", which in turn sounded like a effort to return to his earlier, harder edged stuff like Humble Pie.

    Peter is so talented that he doesn't even realize that this album, which was forced by the record company, is so over the top artistic and creative with this 80's type of sound that it is was far and above the style of the bands that the record company was forcing him to achieve. Peter, please do not believe this was a sell out because it is nothing but genius. If I had to compare it to something it would be Rush's "Grace Under Pressure" So yeah, us muso's know this is high quality stuff.

    His reasons for hating the album are as follows. A&M didn't really care about his career anymore and wasn't putting any effort into pushing his material since I'm In You. He dabbled a bit in cocaine during this time and was, for all intents and purposes in a foul mood during the recording of this album. The songs are great, the production, not so much. His previous album, Breaking All The Rules is also brilliant and spawns one of THE best album covers ever.

    • @frankieeldorado4861
      @frankieeldorado4861 8 лет назад +1

      +romeokid69 Your right about the A&M part ,Cocaine was there before and during FCA and Im in You And is neither here nor there as long as he got away from it,Not like some loved ones around him.When you have to pump out albums for a contact you signed.You do what you do and hope for the best.You cannot have massive success every time out of the box.Pop stardom last 2-3 years at best and he won a grammy in the end.Which is not really the end.There is no end for peter,He set forth in motion a force that will live on way after his demise.But Im going to give credit where its due. A&M stuck with peter pre success building each time.People leave the label and get interested in the next group of persons or people.Thats just how it works.He toured on and made it happen for himself.

      Yep, slap in the face by A&M Records, who was done with him. This album was the last album of the contract and then they dropped like a hot potato. Four laters Atlantic Records signed him, and he put out Premonition (with "Lying" as the single). Frampton said those four years he "took a break" and started raising a family.

      He publicly has "disowned" this album, citing company pressure to write a more "conteporaru album". Ironically, he wrote some of hid best songs ever. Also, the songs were much heavier, souding bit like his early Humble Pie stuff.
      Guess we'll never know the true reason, but in the meantime, I downloaded a remastered version ov "The Art Of Control" and sound INCREDIBLE. Never in my life I thouht I would hear this album the way it was meant to sound. I stress: it's a re mastereing. There's absolutely no re-mxing.

      1970borntorun totally agree with you! I know for fact that the early 80s were not Frampton's favorite years. I knew a former roadie of his and told me they had some accident on the road in 81 or 82 and that it took a big toll on him. financially. I think "Art Of Control" and "Rules" are great albums with an edgier sound. I can't understand what is it that Frampton hates so much about these two!

    • @1970borntorun
      @1970borntorun 7 лет назад

      Ernesto Catalan Right on man! I also happen to think Premonition and Where I Should Be are excellent in their own way. As you and I know, even the so-called "die hard" fans often don't allow an Artist to change and grow into different songwriting areas. I'm sure a lot of fans wanted Peter to re-write Baby I Love Your Way and Do You Feel, over and over, but that would NOT make a mature and sophisticated musician like Peter happy. I still have not been able to find a CD copy of this here in the States. I have 2 copies of the Record and literally wore out my cassette about 20 years ago lol ♫

    To mr. Ernesto Catalan! i have the answer for your question why Peter Frampton hates this album, there was a pressure from the label of Peter Frampton to produce a commercial album, so he wrote these catchy songs, than again a lot of artists don't like their best albums or best songs with no good explanation, anyway, i love Peter Frampton and i forgive him for hating this album, i send my best wishes to mr. Peter Frampton and to you mr. Ernesto Catalan.

    • @ecatalan98
      @ecatalan98  Месяц назад

      Hello Robert! Yes, I've read interviews with Frampton putting that up as an excuse. Despite the "catchy" songs, "Babe I love your way" is WAY more catchy than ANY song on "Art Of Control". Unless he was put off by harder rock, "The Art Of Control" is actually the heaviest Frampton album up to that point, so it makes NO sense he can say, "they made me write catchy songs". Sounds more like a lame excuse for a record he though it would "relaunch" his career. When that didn't happen, it was easy to blame everyone but himself. "Breaking All The Rules" sounds pretty damn close to "Art Of Control", and that one came just the previous year (1981) and Frampton has never dismissed that album, which was also heavier sounding. In a nutshell, it angers Frmapton that "Art Of Control" wasn't as successful as he thought it would be. Plus, his label did little to no promotion, releasing only two rarely seen videos, the one in this post (an incredible song, on of his finest songwriting), and the rocking, "Sleepwalk", which remain out of RUclips until very recently.

      Guitar playing is simplistic, compared to Peter Frampton's version of

    • @roguenation

      Music and performing go hand in hand. The artists who blow up big are the ones who can put on a superior live act. Any artist with a hit song/album can get 15 minutes of fame but staying power comes from the artists like Frampton who can be put in front of a crowd and _perform._
      MTV killed off that connection to the audience. Sure, everyone loved when a new song came on the radio. Fans just wanted more. Maybe people aren’t sitting down to watch videos anymore. Maybe RUclips has killed the market. Or perhaps MTV fell into the trap that ESPN did and have a relatively limited amount of material for an all day affair. The same old videos, hundreds of times a day, day in and day out gets stale. So what did they do? Killed it off altogether. Piracy might be wounding the industry, but MTV is killing it.
