Keychron never ceases to impress me. Definitely considering picking up one of these very soon and the future of keyboards and peripherals is looking very bright! Thank you so much for this review!
I had the Q1HE and currently have a Q12 Max and a regular Q5. The Q1HE felt great to type on but the limited choice of switches was a deal breaker for me. I now have a K2HE for gaming and use the Q12 for work. I don't really see the Q5 (or Q12) as a gaming keyboard, even with the HE switches.
I love your reviews; honest and informative. I don’t think HE keyboards will make much of a difference for me. The spring back of the keys might be nice, not sure. Should I get the regular q or qHE? Even if I don’t see a need for an HE keyboard I am willing to buy to future proof. The one thing giving me pause in getting an HE keyboard is the limited switch choices and the fact there are no silent HE switches. I definitely need silent switches. Thoughts?
Thanks for the reply. I looked up the QHE boards on keychron’s site and it says for all of them that they work exclusively with the Gateron double rail switch. I know that switch options are limited right now as well as compatibility. Lets say a silent magnetic switch is created in the future, do you see the Q5 HE board, for example, being able to take this switch or is it exactly as keychron says, it will be exclusive to the Gateron double rail forever. Just thinking from a future proofing point of view. If I buy this HE board now and wait a bit, can I change the switch in the future? Thanks.
Bought an asus strix scope ii 96 and tried it. Didn’t really match my “productivity vibe”. It looked too “gamery” without even having magnetic switches. Also didn’t like how many keys I was hitting on its linear switches. Sent it back and paid a bit more for this. Needed to watch a video to convince myself that I made the right financial decision. Thanks for the vid lol.
Yeah I suppose people need different sized area for their mice depending on how sensitive theirs is, my DPI is stupid high so it works for me, I hadn't considered it wouldn't work for others :\ But this layout looks sick so I'm glad you're digging it. If I was in the market for a new board I'd be super interested in this myself. Really appreciate the more compact fullsize layouts like the Leopold FC980C.
I've been wating for a keyboard like this for SO LONG. I'm almost crying right now honestly lol. It literally has everything I want, function keys and numpad, wireless with bluetooth (to multiple devices) and dongle (for gaming and boot options), a white model, analog switches, Mac and Windows support. I rarely spend this much money on peripherals but I have to make an exception for this.
Pretty nice clacky sound. I just don't like the looks that much, feels like Keychron either makes too boring looking boards, or then too busy looking like this one.
Yes indeed. As I’ve learned this is the price of Hall effect. However there are some more budget friendly ones on the channel :) and more coming. Stay tuned. Believe it or not this is considered middle ground price.

FINALLY a 96% hall effect keyboard!! been waiting forever for this.
GLad to help!
Bought this keyboard and have had it for about a month and half and it's been incredible! Pricey, but no regrets.
That makes me happy! Great board
well joseph you made me go and buy me one i am waiting for it to arrive !
@@hiro_6426 Nice hope ya used the links in the description :P hehehehehhe

Thank you so much for this review!
Very welcome!
THANK YOU! I'm trying to pick my first keyboard out and wanted something that had everything. This is perfect for me
Glad I could help!
never thought i’d see hall effect used for productivity. nice take!
NICE take indeed :)
love how you broke it down. this layout might finally convert me!
Glad it was helpful!
those stabilizers are CLEAN! no rattle at all 🔥
A tiny bit in the space bar but acceptable.
dude this layout is perfect for coders. finally someone gets it.
Yes they do.
My dude, that typing test sold me.
Sounds great right?
you’re right about the typing speed. hall effect is underrated af.
I’ve been saying it!
This layout is 🔥🔥🔥 finally a numpad without the bulk!
I agree!
yo these keycaps make it look so sleek! 🔥🔥
Yeah I like 'em. 🔥
love the sound profile. not too loud but still thocky.
Yeah it does have a really pleasant sound in person!

I don't use HE for only gaming. Can be both :)
@@TristanPope Yes, I agree, but like I said, the Q5 is not really a gaming keyboard in my mind.
@@MSJChemyeah for sure. Some will though :)
The sound test on this keyboard makes me want it so bad!
Yeah the sound of the Nebula's are great!

If you need silent switches go normal. HE is good for gaming and productivity for sure. Normal is more versatile.

@@JohnSmith-tv5owfrom everything you said this is not the board for you. Check out my most recent board review. Much better choice :)
@@TristanPope Thank you!
Gotta say, this might be the productivity keyboard king!
Might be!
Is the RGB distracting with that compact layout? looks sick tho!
No I find it makes a nice accent or you can turn it off/
Looks great for work. wish they had more color options tho.
Yeah me too. You can get other caps though. I swapped mine.

Glad it worked out for you.
love the sound but i wish it was cheaper. great review.
Yeah I feel ya.
Can't wait for keyboard to come to the EU
I didn’t know it wasn’t available there.
num pad AND gaming. Sold
Right?
this design is giving luxury car vibes ngl.
More sports car to me but I get ya!
Can I stick any cherry style caps on this? Lol
Yea
idk the whole "magnetic switch" thing feels like a gimmick but it’s cool.
I felt that way too until I found the right actuation for work!
Protip, place the numpad to the right of your mouse.
[Keyboard] [Mouse] [Numpad]
It's a very comfortable layout.
I tried this and really disliked it cause of gaming and my mouse hitting it. But I agree it’s not bad when working.

@caucasiangarry I’m actually looking to go back to my full size keeb soon. We shall see if I love it haha. Gotten used to TKL. But miss the full size.
ngl this might dethrone my Wooting 80HE.
Gotta have that numpad eh?
"semi full-size" layout... interesting but I kinda like it.
THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!
hall effect feels gimmicky but it seems to work reall y well may need to ytery it out
Yeah I wasn't sure either until I used it and now I am all in.

Nice it's great when ya find THE ONE! haha
bruh my wallet is crying but i NEED this 💸
haha The struggle is real.
annoys me that they don't have a 100% layout
I understand that. I bet they will eventually.
They just released the Q6 HE. It’s full size, just ordered one.
@JohnFoursquare yup I saw! They are sending one to review soon :)
Pretty nice clacky sound. I just don't like the looks that much, feels like Keychron either makes too boring looking boards, or then too busy looking like this one.
That’s why ya switch up the caps if ya need. I did. :)
1800 layout is cursed like 75%
Cursed?
@TristanPope if you look closely. It is 75% keyboard with numpad
$200+ for a keyboard?? i’m sticking to my membrane lol
You do you.
not bad but hall effect?? overrated imho
To each their own for sure!
$229
