    I think a fast 030 is the Amiga sweet spot for most people. It will make the system usage smooth and responsive and while most games won't notice, any difference most 3D games will be significantly speed up. When I moved up to the 040 (and now 060) I did so just for the rendering speed and any games that utilize it were just a bonus.

    Stack of Pis guy, here, I had no malintent with that comment. You are one of my absolute favorite RUclipsrs and in my mind you are stacked up there with Administrative Results and 3Blue1Brown in terms of content value. :) My intent was just to ease any worry that you might have about heat.

      You have no worries. I was “Ham’n” it up for camera. :) but for real it’s good to know it’s not a concern, the heat. Thanks for your views and participation!

      @@HoldandModify I was honestly disappointed. My team and I were discussing the possible cooling requirements for these bricks and we (me, really) decided that if heat was a problem then we'd just have to sink them into a cube aquarium filled with Novec 7100.

    Nice one Q! When I bought my 1200 (back in the day) I also bought a 40MHz GVP 1230 with MMU and 4MB of fastram. Added the FPU a year later. About 10 years ago I added another 16MB to it. About 5 years ago I replaced the CPU for a 50MHz one and changed the clock generator for a 52MHz one.That was simple since it was in a socket and not soldered to the board. That 1200 system has always been my "daily driver" Amiga so to speak. Oh, and SysInfo has always said "(Not in use)" about the MMU, even when it was in use since I had enforcer running at the same time...

    In the 90's I got a brand new Blizzard 1230 IV, it was the perfect card for my 1200, years after I had Blizzard 060, but at the end I just went back to my trusty Blizzy 1230 Mk IV, classic Amiga 1200 doesn't really need more than this great card !!

  • @imqqmi

    I moved on from A1200 to PC around that time those PPC accelerators became a thing so I don't really care about that part of the Amiga hardware/software eco system. It's interesting how others push things to the limit in that regard. I might buy a pistorm sometime just to see how far I can push my A1200 on the cheap but I don't really have a use for it. If I want to render something really quickly I might as well use WinUAE or if it's about LW 3D, I can as easily use a PC version with native binaries for windows that will hit it out of the ballpark with 32 core CPU (13900K).

    Thanks for the video on the Jaws. In my A1200 I currently have a Jaws II (or by its crazy long name A1230 Turbo+ Series II) with 16MB RAM in it and it is great for gaming and playing demos. It also has the SCSI daughterboard, but don't own any external SCSI CD Drives to try it out. As others have commented, I think my SysInfo also shows the MMU not in use.

    Yes. It’s a lot of fun using them as we used to in the late 80s or early 90s.
    Even though I haven’t jumped yet into the PiStorm bandwagon, I do have as many accelerated systems as I can… But, some of my machines are intended to be as quirky as they were, namely my CDTV with its plain 68000 processor, and my A500 got a GVP A530 Turbo accelerator only and a maximum of 8MB of 32bit FastRAM, also with its old, old, 120 MB SCSI HDD … And it’s a lot of fun too! 😊
    Cheers and keep up doing great videos as usual. 🎉❤❤

    Great video Q! At least you didn't do what I did back in 93-94, when I bought my Jaws II A1230+ with EC030 40Mhz for my 1200, I installed and switched on my 1200... And nothing, my 1200 wasn't any faster. Was the accelerator faulty I thought?... Did I install the card incorrectly?... What was I missing I remember thinking?... Then after fiddling around with the card, scratching my head and finally deciding to read the instructions I realised the card needed ram to work! And I hadn't bought any for mine. Doh! 😄

      @@daishi5571 Yeah I got to agree, I remember upgrading from 1mb A500 to A1200, the performance increase was disappointing. I did hear that simply adding extra fast ram would by itself add a decent speed boost to the A1200.

      @daishi5571 Год назад

      @@timbob9910 What didn't help for me was that I had upgraded a friends A500 to a 020 @ 16MHz and the A1200 wasn't as fast. But just adding Fast RAM to the A1200 easily made it quicker than that. I would say it was twice as fast as a stock A1200.

    No MMU should mean you have 680EC30 @ 40 MHz, just like my Wizard Developments Magnum 1230/40.
